Chapter 17: The Vampire Princess Defends Her E-Rank Partner! Testing the SSS-Rank Extraction on Players

As soon as Sylvia stepped out of the dorm room, a butler swiftly appeared from the shadows of the hallway.

"I told you not to follow me around, Vance."

The butler was an old man with neatly combed white hair and a rather pale, stern complexion.

He looked at Sylvia silently and spoke in a low voice. "Why did you do it, Miss Sylvia?"

"The King is going to be furious," the butler added, his tone grave.

"He had found a perfect blood partner for you from abroad. He is a talented individual with an S-Rank Mana Affinity who also awakened a Middle A-Rank talent."

"You, out of everyone, know that blood partners are a crucial part of a Vampire’s ascension." 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

"It is my freedom to choose my blood partner. Father has no right to tell me what to do," Sylvia said softly but firmly.

"But why choose him?" Vance was genuinely confused. "What did you see in that E-Rank Affinity trash? His potential is not nearly enough for him to survive in the Domain. He will maybe see the threshold of Bronze at best."

"Do not call him trash." Just as quickly, Sylvia’s eyes glowed crimson red as a vertical black slit formed in the dead center of her iris. "He is someone important to me. You are just a new recruit. You do not know him."

"So what if he has an E-Rank Mana affinity? I will just find a Mana Affinity Fruit for him," Sylvia said as she slowly began walking away. "Do not appear before me anymore. Go away."

Vance squinted his eyes. He glanced at the closed door of Caelus’s dorm room and then back at Sylvia before his figure completely dissolved into the shadows, disappearing as if he had never existed.

...

After some time, Albert came back. He looked around in panic, only to see Caelus still in his bed, lazily watching a show on his phone.

If he hadn’t been here a few hours ago, he would have almost thought he was dreaming. But Albert had already confirmed that he wasn’t dreaming. After leaving the room earlier, he had slapped himself so hard that there was still a red mark on his face.

"Brother Caelus." Albert slowly called out to Caelus with a bewildered expression on his face.

"What is it?" Caelus paused the video and looked up.

"What happened before...?" Albert asked, his voice hushed. "Did you do it..."

"..." Caelus’s expression immediately darkened. "Damn fatty, what are you thinking?"

"But..." Albert hesitated.

The most popular school belle and Caelus were basically clinging to each other, and the way they sat was far too intimate to be anything innocent.

"Do not worry about it," Caelus spoke with a sigh. "We do not have that sort of relationship. And do not go mouthing off to others about this."

"Fine. I won’t ask anything else about it." Albert nodded with a serious look. "I will wait for the time when you are ready to reveal it to me."

Caelus nodded in appreciation.

Then, Albert brought up the topic of the world quests, everyone in the streets was talking about it.

Caelus didn’t really have anything to input here, he just let Albert talk.

Then, as if a thought suddenly crossed his mind, Caelus spoke up.

"By the way, Albert. Do you want to enter the Arena to fight?"

"Enter the Arena to fight?" Albert was stunned.

The Arena was open to everyone who had become a player. A player could initiate a fight with another player, and most importantly, there was a global ranking for the Arena.

Caelus casually checked the Arena rankings. There were already 15,000 newly registered Iron Stage I players in the Arena right now.

If they both joined right now, they would both start at the very bottom.

However, the top 10 of the Arena received a certain set of weekly rewards, ranging from rare items to large sums of Origin Credits.

There was no reason not to join the Arena.

And most importantly, it also yielded Reputation Points.

If there was one thing that the legends of the Origin Ascension Domain had said, it was that Reputation Points might seem useless early on, but they became a vital aspect of the Domain once you reached higher levels. Since that was the case, Caelus fully planned on farming all the Reputation Points he could get while still being a newbie.

Of course, the intention to climb the ranks aside, Caelus had another intention when he invited Albert to a fight.

He wanted to steal the other party’s talent.

Lightning Domain. Even if he only extracted a D-Rank version of it, it would definitely come in handy.

Couldn’t he spam spells in the Domain and farm kills with an AOE skill?

Then, Albert’s voice broke his train of thought.

"But Brother... are you sure you want to fight me?" Albert asked with some hesitation.

"I already told you, right? I have a combat score of 7 with my Lightning Domain, and with my party buffs, I hit 8. Not many people have my combat score right now," Albert said, clearly worried about bullying his friend.

"It is for practice," Caelus said with a deadpan look on his face.

"I want to improve my combat skills," he added.

Hearing this, Albert eased up.

"If it is for combat experience, then it is fine," Albert said as he prepared himself.

"I will teach you all about combat, Brother Caelus," Albert said with a serious look.

Caelus never really bothered learning combat skills in the past, but now that he decided to change for the better, Albert decided to faithfully teach Caelus his skills.

"Well then, I will not use my Lightning Domain, Brother Caelus," Albert said with an earnest face. "If I use it, you will instantly get destroyed."

"No need. Feel free to use your Lightning Domain. I will be more mindful during the process of fighting," Caelus yawned lazily and said.

He did want to see what this talent did, and he also wanted to see if it was possible to extract talents in the Arena in the first place.

With that said, Caelus summoned the System panel and swiftly entered the Arena app.

It showed his current level and Rank: Iron I. Then, without hesitation, Caelus scanned for Albert using the system and swiftly sent an invitation.

[System: Player 555 of server 513 has invited you to an Arena Match.]

[System: Would you like to accept?]

’Player 555?’ Albert was slightly surprised.

He felt like he had heard this name somewhere before, likely on the world chat, but now wasn’t the time to think about that. He swiftly clicked accept, and both his and Caelus’s figures flashed from the room, becoming semi-transparent as their consciousnesses fell onto their respective beds.
