Endless World: The Rise of Leonard Lawson-Chapter 223: Pawn In The Chessboard
In the blink of an eye, Jeff was surrounded by a large group of people. Despite the clear pressure, the former remained aloof and carefree.
"Why are you here?" Logan kept his focus on Jeff while questioning Wesley’s appearance.
Wesley didn’t recognize Logan. But based on his mysterious presence, he held reasonable thoughts that he might be Leonard’s people.
When Logan noticed that his question had yet to be answered, he subtly exposed a token that hung on his waist.
’That is—’ Instantly, Wesley recognized the token and cupped his fist. "I was under the Crown Prince’s order to capture Jeff. These people are also granted to me by the Crown Prince."
Logan nodded his head. He naturally understood these newcomers were a part of Curtis’s subordinates.
Needless to say, Jeff also recognized them as a part of the Crimson Ward Division. He had investigated for a while and naturally spotted these so-called Shield patrolling the streets of Velastra.
Otherwise, he would have long silenced them on the spot, giving them zero chance to even surround him.
"It seems like I still ended up on the suspect list." Jeff sighed and shook his head. Now that things had come to this, he was certain his wife and the messenger from the brothel were also captured.
If not, then he would truly be disappointed with the Crown Prince.
Logan also retracted his aura the moment he sensed Jeff had given up the thoughts of resisting. "I’ll bring her back to recover. The sword aura still lingered on her and needed to be dispelled."
Swoosh!
Logan quickly caught a small bottle thrown to him from Jeff.
"The bottle contains the antidote, but you should still treat her wound. That strike of mine used up about 20%." Jeff kindly advised. Still, he regretted not using a bit more strength.
If it weren’t for the fact that using his power too much would cause more damage, then he wouldn’t have used so little. After all, too much damage in the scene would leave more flaws behind that might pinpoint him.
Alas, it doesn’t matter anymore now that the Crown Prince has pinpointed him anyway.
"I’m going to get an earful." He murmured. Although fearful of the scolding, he was more afraid of his wife’s scolding later on.
He wasn’t worried about his wife’s safety because someone in the Crimson Guards protecting Leonard’s side knew of his identity. Therefore, the possibility of his wife being mistreated wouldn’t occur.
Sometime later, Jeff allowed himself to be handcuffed.
’Is he not an enemy?’ Wesley was confused by the ordeal. He had gone through so much to find a rat out, but it appeared this rat seemed to be an ally.
In the end, he shook his head and ordered them to return.
As for the two corpses in the ground, Wesley got his own force to clean up the mess. His own force was more proficient in cleaning the bodies and the streets.
Such was the brutality of this world.
The two city guards who were just minding their own business and duty ended up being an unknown sacrificial piece.
Nobody would learn of their death or why they were killed.
The only thing people knew was that the rain was still pouring heavily.
...
Royal Velastra Hotel
"Crown Prince, I have brought the person over," Wesley reported to Leonard and recounted the event.
A moment of silence occurred when Leonard learned that Logan didn’t make a move against Jeff.
"You may go," Leonard waved his hand to dismiss Wesley.
Wesley bowed and promptly excused himself. Shortly after his exit, Leonard called out to Logan.
"Yes, Crown Prince?" Logan emerged from a portal and knelt on one knee. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"You rescued Claudia?" Leonard asked coolly.
"I did," Logan admitted, and explained he had brought her to Caroline’s side for a speedy recovery.
"Why wasn’t I informed about it?"
"You never ordered it."
What Leonard ordered was to let Claudia leave or capture the people who wanted to target her.
To summarize, Leonard never specified that Claudia must be brought to him.
As for why Logan didn’t bring her over, it was probably because of his words.
After all, Leonard had personally said that he would end Claudia’s life if they were to meet again.
"It seems like you don’t want me to have a fall-out with Mirelle either," Leonard uttered. If he were to kill Claudia, then the first person to be displeased with him would be none other than Mirelle.
"Is she really that important?" He raised his tone slightly.
"She’s not," Logan’s body tensed up slightly as he hurriedly clarified.
"Mirelle’s not important, but her Mentor is. Her mentor is Archmage Rosie, who held significant influence within the Xundraeth Continent."
"An Archmage, huh." Leonard furrowed his brows. If he recalled correctly, the Archmage was a title that referred to a Seventh Circle Mage.
The disciple was a Sixth Circle and the mentor was a Seventh Circle.
The combination of these two was quite lethal to any forces, especially when the latter could potentially mobilize the Xundraeth Military Army.
At this point, he was starting to doubt the so-called random selection during the magic tutor.
Was it really random, or was it all part of Spencer’s plan?
After all, he found it hard to believe that Mirelle would suddenly emerge in the Valdoria Continent.
Sure, the cause was for her to reform the Imperial Aldros Academy. But who was the one who pushed for the reform and gave her the chance?
This was something Leonard hadn’t investigated and merely brushed aside.
’What chess player... I’m also a pawn being manipulated at will.’ Leonard wanted to laugh aloud at his pathetic self.
"Anything else?" His tone deepened and questioned.
Logan hesitated for a moment before ultimately deciding to be honest. He had witnessed how distrustful Leonard was toward Mirelle because of her repeated concealment.
"Yes, Jeff is from the Crimson Talon Division and received an order to eliminate any threat around you. He was trying to kill Claudia but surrendered willingly under Wesley’s arrangement."
