Chapter 224: Talon Division

Leonard’s body jolted slightly.

He turned around and stared at Logan with a confused expression. "You’re saying Jeff is part of the Crimson Guard?"

"That is correct," Logan lowered his head and affirmed the matter. He had made sure to have another conversation with Jeff and tested a few more things that only real Crimson Guards would know about.

"The Talon Division..." Leonard murmured. He browsed through his memories and quickly recalled what the Talon Division was responsible for.

"An executioner who hid more well than the Shadow. Are you sure he’s in the right division?" He questioned sarcastically.

Logan bit his lips softly and realized the Shadows’ value in Leonard’s eyes had decreased marginally.

While Logan was contemplating how to regain the favor, Leonard was wondering whose order Jeff was following.

It couldn’t be Spencer, granted that Curtis was literally Spencer’s close subordinate.

"Where is Jeff being held at?" Leonard asked.

"At the basement level alongside his wife and another informant, Harper," Logan reported.

"Lead the way."

"Yes, Crown Prince."

Sometime later, the two arrived at the basement level.

A series of sounds in whipping and screaming could immediately be heard from their position.

"That direction is where Ted is being detained, right?" Leonard glanced at the dark corner. Since Jeff was technically a part of the Crimson Guard, the torture likely wasn’t being imposed on him.

Hence, the only viable suspect was Ted, who had attacked Mirelle and Claudia for some unknown reason.

"Curtis is currently extracting information from Ted’s mouth. The torture lasted approximately 5 hours, 35 minutes, and 25 seconds." Logan calculated the time and reported.

Leonard nodded. "Anyway, bring me to Jeff. I’m more curious about his mission."

Soon after, Logan led the way in the opposite direction from where Ted was being tortured.

...

"Wife, I’m sorry." Jeff went on his knees and cried his tears out. "I shouldn’t have slacked off in my duty and become accused as an accomplice in harming the Crown Prince."

"Hmph, did you know how scared I was?" Jeff’s wife, Gloria, scolded harshly and twisted Jeff’s ear. "A group of unknown people suddenly detained me. The soup I’ve prepared for so long is now ruined."

Jeff’s ear quickly turned purplish from the twisting, but he didn’t dare to resist one bit. All he did was move his mouth and repeatedly pleaded for mercy.

The previous killer’s aura was completely gone.

Replacing them was a henpecked husband.

"Are you sure he’s an executioner?" Leonard paused his steps and twitched his brows.

"I’m positive." Logan also held an awkward expression when he overheard the scene. The face of an executioner had really been dragged through the mud with this play.

Amidst their disappointment, Jeff’s conversation with his wife only made his impression fall deeper into the abyss.

"Hmph, if we don’t get out soon, then you’re not getting on the bed for another month." Gloria threatened.

"Not the floor, wifey!" Jeff clasped his cheek in horror. "Please don’t let me sleep on the floor, wife. It’s cold and hard. My back will die. You wouldn’t want me to become a hunchback man, right?"

Right at this moment, Logan revealed himself.

’The two of you are here under detainment for god’s sake.’ Logan cursed silently.

Their conversation even prompted Leonard to push him forward to handle them.

"Oh, you’re here?" Unfazed by Logan’s presence, Jeff smiled lightly and stood up.

He then bowed and greeted, "Subordinate Jeff from the Talon Division greets the Crown Prince."

"Your perception is incredibly high." Leonard stepped forward and commented.

Gloria appeared visibly shaken upon learning the young man in front of her was the crown prince.

"H-Husband... what’s going on here?" She grasped his arm and inquired. Her body was tensed up, clearly frightened by the situation.

"Nothing," Jeff gently patted her hand and smiled. "I’m a city guard, and the Crown Prince is inspecting us. There were a few recent kills happening whilst I was on duty, so this is the usual procedure."

"Really?"

"Mhm, look at us. Are we being tortured?"

"Husband has a point..."

Despite being detained, they were fed well, and even the accommodation was fantastic.

It was hard to believe they were being treated as a criminal or suspect.

"Alright, the investigation is almost over anyway. Bring her back and compensate for her trouble." Leonard commanded Logan to guide Gloria away.

Logan understood that the Crown Prince wished to speak privately with Jeff, so he promptly gestured for Gloria to follow him.

Gloria was also able to comprehend the situation and nodded.

"I’ll wait for you at home, dear." She glanced at Jeff and said.

"Yes, I’ll be back soon." Jeff flexed his muscles and smiled cheekily. "Not tasting your cooking for even a day will ruin me."

Sometime later, Gloria was escorted away, leaving only Xu Feng and Jeff in the scene.

As soon as they were left alone, Jeff immediately went on his knees and held a solemn expression.

"Thank you for not exposing me, Crown Prince." He was grateful for this aspect. His wife was innocent and didn’t know about his other side.

Although it was a type of deception, Jeff truly hoped his wife would remain carefree and free of the world’s dirtiness.

"If you’re thankful, then tell me on whose orders are you listening to?" Leonard asked. Despite asking, the tone was clearly one that demanded an answer.

’Seems like the Crown Prince has grown.’ Jeff thought to himself. He was certain that if he were to conceal the matter, his peaceful life with his wife would be over.

"I can only say it’s someone on The Butcherer’s level," Jeff responded. "Any further information, and I would be condemned."

The Butcherer was Spencer’s nickname.

Therefore, the clue hinted that someone was on par with Spencer and managed to stay hidden under his rank for a long time.

’Someone whom Spence treated with respect.’ Leonard furrowed his brows and pondered silently.

Soon, his body jolted slightly when he recalled that one particular person was able to gain his respectful greeting.

The Librarian within his palace, Seth!
