Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 211: Defending Cardan

Esme and Luciana turned towards the doorway only to find a man leaning against the door.

Leo, who was following the man ran towards Esme who hugged him immediately, ’’Where did you go?" she was about to reprimand him but when he sat on her lap obediently, she shifted her attention to the man who had a frown etched between his brows, ’’But I did say that, Your Highness,’’ she said, without bothering to stand up given how he was standing at a distance.

It was not hard for her to understand that he was the Prince. His appearance and aura were enough for her to recognize him.

As he stepped inside the room, Esme pushed herself to her feet, nodding at him curtly. The first thing that she noticed about his features was the pair of blue eyes.

Indeed father-son. She closed her eyes tragically, wondering why she even related the God’s eyes to her painting. It looked like here everyone had blue eyes.

’’But Luciana is here,’’ Cardan glanced at the woman who was looking at him distastefully, ’’How could you pretend to be her? Not that you are twin sisters and it would be fine.’’

’’It will not be a bother because we are not going to stay here any longer,’’ Esme placed Leo on the bed as she gazed at Luciana, ’’Let’s go to the portal.’’

’’It should be closed by now,’’ Luciana said.

Cardan nodded, ’’All the guests are here and the portal is closed at the moment. Years ago, they never closed the portal but after a few incidents, my father keeps a tight guard on it. No one can leave without his knowledge.’’

Esme gulped, ’’You can do something about it. You are the Prince.’’

’’...who is sleeping on the floor,’’ he looked at Luciana grievously, ’’So, I have no say in this.’’

Esme closed her eyes, watching her doom enlarging in front of her vision.

After Cardan left, Esme and Luciana were left alone in the room with Leo.

’’Don’t wander around here without me,’’ Esme reprimanded Leo once again.

The beast closed his eyes obediently but Esme could sense strange happiness around Leo.

It looked like he was having a good time here. Lucky him.

She sighed, ’’Lucy, is it him?"

’’What?" Luciana sat beside Esme on the bed.

"The person you have been meeting in the past few months back in our Kingdom. Secretly. Was it the Prince?"

Luciana was stunned, ’’How did you know?"

’’They said you both are close to each other. You have never been to this realm before so it only means he has been to our kingdom,’’ Esme rolled her eyes.

’’But we are not lovers,’’ Luciana was quick to clarify, ’’I don’t have any such feelings for him.’’

’’Back in the sea, when I asked you about the person you have been meeting secretly, you said you would like for me to meet them. And you looked quite happy while saying that,’’ Esme pointed.

Luciana was speechless. Back then, she thought that Cardan and her were past their deal stage and he was a genuine friend. But she did not expect him to still be stuck on his hidden motives.

And Luciana had no interest in tiptoeing around people to find out whether she could trust them or not. There was no grey for her. It was only white or black. She trusted Cardan once but he was enshrouded in mysteries. And now, she did not trust him no matter how much she wanted to at the times when he showed a nicer side of himself.

Esme eyed her doubtfully, ’’Then why are you both staying in the same room? He even made a pond for you in his room...’’

’’For me?" Luciana rolled her eyes heavenward, ’’Maybe he made it for himself or to beautify that place. Why would he make it for me?"

’’He once fell inside the dark lake so he is not fond of water bodies,’’ Esme spilled the information she gathered by eavesdropping.

Luciana frowned. But they met near the sea all the time in the past year. He never mentioned anything about his discomfort with the water bodies, ’’I’ve heard he has mistresses. Maybe he made it for his favorite woman...’’

’’And I have heard that nobody was allowed to step inside it.’’

’’But I went inside it today and he did not say anything,’’ Luciana was confused.

’’That’s what I am saying. So, he made it for you?"

Luciana blinked. Was that man really in love with her? She shook her head as goosebumps rose on her skin at that bizarre thought.

Looking at Luciana’s odd face, Esme tugged at her hand, ’’Come, sleep with me.’’

Luciana glared at Esme as she crossed an arm in front of her chest defensively.

Esme glared back at the woman, ’’I mean, sleep in my room. Don’t go back to that Prince no matter how good he looks.’’

’’Why why?" Luciana asked as both the women shifted their positions. Esme slept on the right side of the huge round bed while Luciana went to the left.

Esme placed the sleeping Leo on the fluffy high pillow.

"Because I overheard the maids’ conversation,’’ Esme glanced at the crystal chandeliers, ’’We are here to bless the little Prince and you know what they were talking about?"

’’What?"

’’Prince Cardan wants to kill his brother. There are only two Princes in this Dark Castle which implies that he intends to kill a child. Someone like him... can he be even trusted? What a beast,’’ Esme scoffed.

’’He is not that bad... he won’t kill a child,’’ Luciana mumbled, her brows tugging together.

"You are defending him on this?"

Luciana grew silent. After all, she had seen Cardan doing worse.

He has killed countless maids back in the Daven Castle after sucking their life essence and bedding them, he took a deceased person’s soul fragment just so he could fool everyone back there, he helped his witch mother with all her evil antics towards Aleister, they trapped Duke Maverick in the mirror illusion and still, Aleister was giving him a chance to redeem himself but Cardan backstabbed him.

Saying that he was a beast was an understatement of his cruel antics.

Luciana closed her eyes for a moment, ’’You don’t like letting anyone inside your room,’’ she changed the topic.

Esme nodded, ’’But I don’t want you to die a gruesome death you did not see coming. In his hands nor do I want to die here with you.’’

"Are you scared for both of us?" Luciana turned to her side, glancing at Esme teasingly.

Esme cleared her throat, ’’We can have each other’s back for as long as we are here. Once we are back in our kingdom, don’t talk to me. I am still angry about you all keeping me in dark. I despise this feeling for some reason.’’

Luciana poked her shoulder, ’’I didn’t want to harm you, Es,’’ I also want you to regain your memories without harming yourself so that you won’t be fooled by anyone but at the same time, you are the clueless and off guard at this time. You know how to smile.

If you regain your memories and shed off your naivety about your past then... maybe you will never smile again. Luciana thought to herself as Esme turned her back towards her.
