Chapter 210: Blasphemy

Esme knew that this lie won’t last that long. But it will last long enough for her to take her trunk and jump back into the portal to save her dear life.

It was her first day here and she already offended the most powerful entity in this place. Her doom was inevitable.

’’Oh? My son?"

Esme ran her mind through everything she heard, eventually remembering the name of the Prince who was involved with Luciana at the moment, ’’Prince Cardan is my one true love,’’ Hoping that the man was buying her words and he was clueless about Luciana’s appearance, Esme calmed her trembling heart by placing her palm on her chest as she glanced at the walls like a forlorn river, ’’You must have heard about what happened today, My Lord. The people here think I am his mistress but I am his lover. We both love each other so much—’’

Esme stopped talking when she felt a hard stare focused on her. She glanced back at the man who was looking at her with narrowed eyes, his face has turned a few shades darker.

Her heart thumped. Was he catching onto her lie? She lied harder this time, "The world can be cruel. He is an immortal and I am but an ordinary mermaid who is going to grow old and die eventually. That is tragic enough for both of us but people said I am his mistress and I ran out of his room. I didn’t know how I ended up in this part of the Castle but I got confused. I felt like this was his room."

’’You are Cardan’s lover?"

’’Yes yes yes,’’ Esme softy wiped her non-existent tears, ’’And he is my lover...’’ she whispered coyly.

’’That being the reason why you called my eyes beautiful? So intimately?"

Esme was lost for words. She did that, ’’I... My Lord, your eyes reminded me of my first lover. I lost composure for a moment but I assure you, at this moment, I only have feelings for your son,’’ She was amazed by her ability to lie so swiftly.

To think that everyone around her told her that she was always an innocent girl before she lost her memories. It made Esme wonder if innocent girls are this proficient in lying.

’’And your name...?’’

’’Es...’’ Esme paused. No, all of them would not even get the time to escape if she told a half-hearted lie, ’’Luc... Luciana, My Lord.’’

The man scoffed.

Are gods allowed to scoff like that? Esme pursed her lips.

’’You can go back now, LUCIANA,’’ His special emphasis on the name made her heart race again but she turned around and fled from the room without looking back at him.

Grabbing her gown, Esme ran all the back to her assigned room as if she was being chased by a ghost.

As soon as she landed on the bed, she grabbed a pillow on instinct and punched it, ’’You know what I did?" she placed her palm on the pillow, ’’I did this with his face and told him how beautiful his eyes were.’’

Esme glanced at the pillow. The white pillow glanced back at her and she fell speechless. Why was she even talking to a pillow? Was she losing her mind?

’’Es, here you are. I looked for you everywhere—’’

Luciana’s words were cut off when Esme threw the pillow at the woman. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Luciana’s jaw dropped, ’’Did you just hit me?"

’’Lucy, I want to strangle you. You can’t call this hitting you,’’ Esme said, kneeling on the bed, her face eerily calm.

Luciana gasped, ’’You want to strangle my beautiful self?"

’’Don’t... don’t say beautiful,’’ Esme lowered her head like a wilted flower.

Luciana’s brows tugged together, ’’What happened?"

Esme was enraged when she heard that, ’’Don’t ask me what happened because whatever happened, happened because of you,’’ she walked out of the bed, cupping Luciana’s face.

Luciana got goosebumps, ’’You... My beautiful self likes beautiful men... not women,’’ she said softly. Esme was finally wanting to explore love after a year, but not with men? And she was choosing her at that?

’’Because of your beautiful self Lucy, I ended up in a man’s room,’’ Esme’s face was calm but her grey eyes resembled fierce storms, ’’I cupped his face like this and told him that his eyes are beautiful.’’

’’How is that my fault?" Luciana was speechless, ’’I am no witch. I can’t compel you to say things that you don’t want to say. It’s your fault that you got bewitched by a man.’’

’’I. was. not. bewitched,’’ Esme spoke through gritted teeth, ’’And I have a fiancée I am going to marry in some time.’’

’’Who was the man anyway?" Luciana asked with a soft sigh.

Esme retracted her hand from Luciana’s face, ’’The God,’’ she said flatly.

’’Oh, that’s not bad...’’ the rest of her words lodged in her throat, ’’Who-?" Luciana blinked.

’’The King of this Dark Castle, the God of Death,’’ Esme replied flatly.

’’You... Es... No... That’s... That’s blasphemy,’’ Even though Aleister was gone, he was still the son of God Atlas. The world will call Esme an evil vixen if she got together with the father after the son died. Luciana trembled as she pressed her fingers together, making some strange signals, ’’You can’t... with the god...’’

’’I can’t what...?" Esme felt a headache.

Luciana did not know how to explain it.

’’Lucy, you... should have told me that you are the Prince’s lover,’’ Esme walked back towards the bed, thinking about it calmly this time.

’’Whose lover?"

’’Prince Cardan’s,’’ Esme said.

’’Whose lover again?" Luciana’s face twisted in such a way that she believed a few of her facial nerves must have snapped into halves.

Esme glanced at her with a ’Are you deaf’ expression, ’’We should just take our things and leave.’’

"What happened has already happened. Since he let you go, I don’t think he will be petty enough to pursue this matter,’’ Luciana said, wondering if all the people in this castle had the same thoughts about her and Cardan like Esme.

’’The thing is...’’ Esme smiled at her, ’’I told him I am Luciana, his immortal son’s tragic mortal lover,’’ her smile grew wider when Luciana paled.

’’You did not just say that, My Lady,’’ came a voice from the doorstep.
