Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 351: Young Lord is gone
As Luciana stepped inside the manor, she gracefully descended from the water, her long tail disappearing and getting replaced by her legs by the time she landed on the ground on her toes.
She ignored Cardan’s awestruck gaze and looked forward.
’’Lucy, how can you be so pretty in everything you do?" Cardan pressed a palm on his chest, ’’You are seducing me, aren’t you?"
Luciana’s lips twitched but she did not say a word in response. After all, the man said she was seducing him even when she pressed a knife to his neck. What more could she expect from him?
The moment Luciana entered the place, she could sense a weird shift in the air of the Norwell’s manor. Her footsteps slowed down.
She knew that a lot of things had changed in the past few days, starting from Marcus Norwell’s disappearance, to Jeremiah Norwell being imprisoned but the King had not imposed any punishments on the manor or the other people.
Even she was kept out of the consequences of the conspiracy where her own father and her uncle were involved. The King had never once expressed his suspicions about her intentions and that had made her grateful.
So, at the end of the day, Luciana could not figure out why the maids in the manor were acting strangely. As they passed by, they would stop and glance at Cardan and her, greet them while shivering and then walk past them with their heads lowered.
Luciana was unable to take that behaviour as the more they walked inside the manor, the further cautious and fidgety the maids seemed to be.
She stopped one of them, ’’Wait.’’
The maid stopped and looked at Luciana with terrified eyes, ’’M-My lady.’’
’’Why are you people behaving in such a manner?" Luciana contemplated over it for another moment before she continued asking, ’’Is it the maids from the other influential families? Did they mock you all?"
Mermaids were fond of gathering over tea, discussing jewelleries, men and more of the talks of what has been happening around them.
While the social gatherings for the aristocrats like Luciana and Esme were different, at the same time, there were different gatherings for the maidservants.
So, it was not hard to understand why Luciana made such a guess.
With what happened with the men in their family and that too the men who held significant positions in the sea court, people must have started treating the Norwells as a speck of dust in their eyes, believing that they were stripped of all their influence after this incident.
The more she thought about it, the more it started making sense.
Under Luciana’s piercing gaze, the maid burst into tears as she nodded, ’’My Lady, they did not bully us but their words implied that our lives from here on are dark, and completely ruined. They said that we will either get executed or be sold off to those rich old mermen to be kept as their whores.’’
Luciana’s brows tugged together, ’’Nothing like that is happening. Stop crying,’’ she walked towards the girl and patted her shoulder slowly, lost in her thoughts.
Cardan eyed the palm that was gently patting the maid’s shoulder and his eyes darkened. He wrapped an arm around Luciana’s waist and pulled her back towards him.
As she looked up at him confusion, he smiled sweetly and shook his head.
Hearing Luciana talk to the maid, the rest of the maids slowly gathered around them, still holding a wary expressions on their faces. They were unused to the lady of their house being kind to anyone but in the past few months, she had not been as cruel as she used to be or else none of them would have had the audacity to approach her.
’’My Lady, it’s not that we have no faith in you but lately, things have not been well in our manor...’’
They started talking.
’’The Lord disappeared and... the heir apparent...’’
’’Shhh, don’t mention him.’’
Luciana felt a headache coming her way.
’’And the worst thing is that, even the young lord...’’
Luciana stiffened, ’’What? What happened to Lucian?" Lucian had been absent from all all these chaos and she had been too preoccupied with everything to notice his absence his absence.
’’The young Lord is gone. He left the manor the night the heir apparent was imprisoned,’’ a maid replied.
Luciana’s lips parted, but no words came out of her mouth.
Cardan supported her body strongly.
’’Who saw him last?" After a long time, Luciana asked.
The maids looked at each other before shaking their heads, ’’We all had seen him when we served him lunch but when we went to serve dinner for him, he was not there. The room was empty.’’
Initially, they had thought that he had gone away for some time to free himself from the shackles of all the events transpiring in the family but as days passed by and Lucian never came back, they realized that he was gone after getting different signs of his departure from his room.
’’My Lady, the young Lord has left a letter before his departure.’’
Luciana was having a hard time recollecting her thoughts but still, somehow, she managed to nod at them, ’’Where is the letter?"
’’We noticed it on his bed and we have kept it right there, untouched so that you can read it when you come back.’’
Luciana inhaled a deep breath. She looked at the maids, ’’It has been days since he left and you did not bother to inform me?"
The maids lowered their heads guiltily, ’’My Lady, some of us had gone to find you in the Crystal Castle but the guards did not let us in. They said trespassers would be beheaded.’’
After the incident with Jeremiah, while the kingdom has still been more laid back than before, the castle was being guarded tightly.
Without responding to them any further, Luciana walked to Lucian’s room while being followed by Cardan, a myriad of thoughts in her mind.
