Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 352: In one night
’Luciana,
l intended to steady myself so that I can talk to you when you come but there are voices in my head. I close my eyes at night and I am haunted by different voices. Father disappeared and that had concerned me for a long time. I was looking for him but it was as if his existence had entirely been wiped off. But my worry for him changed into terror when Uncle’s true face was revealed to everyone.
Father was also involved in all his evil deeds and he must have offended people. I don’t know what consequences he faced. I don’t know how to sleep at night knowing that throuoghout my life, I have been controlled and manipulated by the both of them like puppets. My heart is in chaos. I want to go away from here, and I want to find peace.
I wish to wait for you so that I can meet you before I leave. But this place is suffocating me and I have this intimidating realization sinking in that all my life, not only me but my emotions have been manipulated as well. I have never been a good brother, Luciana. I do not deserve it but I am still asking for your forgiveness.
Lucian’
Luciana closed the letter in her hand as she sat on the bed, her shoulders dropping.
He left. Lucian left as well.
Cardan knelt in front of her, ’’Do you want me to find him and drag him back here?"
Luciana’s lips twitched when she heard his words, ’’What do you mean by drag him back here? You are talking about my brother, not an object,’’ she glared at him.
Cardan cleared his throat, ’’If his absence makes you sad, I will grant you his presence. You close your eyes for the night and before you open them, I wll have brother-in-law standing in front of you.’’
’’Who is your brother-in-law?" Luciana looked at him wide-eyed, ’’Are you daydreaming too much?"
’’Am I?" Cardan sat on the floor with an elbow propped on his knee as he leaned back on her legs, ’’Are you feeling better, Lucy?"
Luciana inhaled a deep breath before she nodded, ’’If he wants peace, he can have it,’’ The realization that within one day, she was the only family she had made her feel bitter no matter how much she resisted that feeling.
Luciana glanced at Cardan and suddenly a small warm feeling spread to her chest at the sitting on the floor, providing such bizarre antidotes to her crises, ’’Cardan?"
’’Yes, love?"
Her heart skipped a beat, ’’Why me?" she asked softly.
Cardan lifted his head to meet her gaze, ’’Because it is you, Luciana. It has to be you.’’
Luciana’s eyes turned soft. She closed them almost immediately, terrified of what he might see in them.
But the man did not seem to have noticed anything as he pulled himself to his feet and picked her up in his arms.
Luciana was startled, ’’What are you doing?"
"Hasn’t it been a long day for you?" Cardan rolled his eyes as he walked out of Lucian’s room, not wanting to let her sulk in the memory of her not-so-good-and-irresponsible brother, ’’Show me the way to your room. It’s time for you to sleep.’’
Luciana glanced at him but without putting up any resistance, she snuggled deeper into his arms.
’’Good girl,’’ The corner of his lips curved up seeing how docile she was being. The shades of Luciana Norwell never failed to amuse him.
Once they reached her room, Cardan placed her on the bed and removed her shoes.
Luciana lay there quietly, observing his actions in a daze.
The man removed his own boots before he climbed on the bed that was shaped like an enormous sea shell.
Luciana felt a strong arm wrapping around her waist as she was pulled into a warm embrace.
’’Are you sleeping here?" she poked his arm.
"Where else do you want me to sleep, Lucy?" Cardan arched a brow, ’’Are you abandoning me?"
Luciana rolled her eyes before closing them, ’’Sleep if you want to. But do not bother me.’’
Cardan kissed her neck, ’’I promise to be good, Your Highness.’’
Luciana gasped, ’’You...’’
Cardan quickly pulled back from her and closed his eyes before she could say a word.
Luciana gulped her words of reprimand when she saw his actions. Feeling helpless, she closed her eyes as well and leaned into his arms, pressing her face against his chest as she listened to the sound of his steady heartbeats.
And as she did so, she did not see the small smile that made it’s way to Cardan’s face.
...
Darkness had descended in the sky and the sea had turned crimson.
As Esme stood in the middle of it, all she could see was a vast stretch of darkness and blood.
It has been just one night. How did things change to this extent?
Countless mers had transformed into their human forms as they battled with each other. With the vicious display of their powers, they ripped out each other’s organs.
One after another, more and more people fell to the ground, dying a death so horrible that one’s heart shivered at the sight of it.
Like the dark lores of the sea, a distinct music lingered in the air. A music so enchanting that anyone who heard it fell into a trance.
’’Who is there?" Esme shouted, ’’Why are you doing this?’’ She did not know what was happening but a voice in her heart told her that all of this was orchestrated by someone.
But as the notes of the music became more intense, Esme’s vision grew hazy. She fought the feeling yet she could not seem to be able to think about anything.
Lost in her thoughts of nothingness, she strode forward, her eyes roaming over the chaos in front of her.
Blood.
"Sister, sister, can you help me?" A small meek voice made Esme snap back to her senses.
She gazed in the direction of the voice and looked at the little girl who was clutching her knee, ’’Help?" Esme mumbled.
’’My mother.. I can’t find my mother,’’ As the little girl spoke, she burst into tears, sobbing loudly as she clung to Esme.
The notes of the music intensified and Esme’s lips thinned in displeasure, ’’Shhh, how annoying!" she tightened her hold on the dagger and stabbed the girl’s neck without hesitation.
