Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 369: Wolves
And it did not take her much time to understand why he was saying that and who must have instilled such thoughts in his head.
When Cardan started interacting with his mother, she must have clouded his mind with her darkness.
’’My mother was not fond of those people.’’
Esme sighed, ’’So they had to die for her?"
Cardan did not say anything as he passed her the fish, ’’See if it suits your taste.’’
As Esme took the fish from his hand, her heart was filled with conflicted thoughts. Is this why Aleister forgave Cardan for everything?
Because, at that moment, she too had no idea if the man should be hated or pitied? Painful as it was to imagine the good people dying, the bad person staying alive to reflect on his sins and reminiscing all the goodness they showered on him was heart-wrenching as well.
The place sunk in silence as the both of them ate the fish, lost in their own thoughts.
After a long time, Cardan spoke up, ’’We have been here for so long but we have yet to see a human here.’’
Esme nodded, ’’I am not entertaining any such beliefs that there will be humans in a place like this.’’
Cardan fell into contemplation, ’’You are right. That would be for the better only if there were no mortals or immortals around here.’’ Because with the existence of any creatures, their journey will be slowed down and it will probably take them an eternity to go find the artifacts they were there for, ’’We should leave this place in a few hours once the daylight breaks in.’’
Esme nodded, wrapping her arms around herself as she moved closer to the fire to warm herself up. Her body was cold and so was her heart. ’’I don’t know where they are...’’
’’Do you think everyone can listen to mumbles?" Cardan glared at her, ’’Can you speak a bit louder?"
’’Aleister... I don’t know where he is.’’
Cardan nodded, ’’I believe he would be fine wherever he is... He is powerful even without his divine powers. And we will find him in no time. Do not worry.’’
Esme did not say anything. Even if Aleister was fine, what about Luciana?
’’Sleep if you want to. I will guard you.’’
To Cardan’s words, Esme looked at him silently for a moment before she leaned back on a tree and closed her eyes, not once considering the way she was so against trusting the man.
...
In a crowded marketplace.
’’Who is that, mother?"
’’Shh... Don’t look at him. They must be bad people.’’
’’But what will happen to him?"
"He will be punished for invading our land with bad intentions. What else?" Another man from the crowd spoke when he heard the child’s questions.
Aleister could hear the chaos around him and it felt like his head was splitting from the intense pain that consumed him.
He buried his face in his hands, seeking more of the darkness that provided him relief but the noises around him kept growing more and more with every passing second.
’Drip Drip Drip’
A warm fluid fell on Aleister’s hair, slowly gliding down from his face.
’’Grrr..’’
A deep slow growl resounded in his ears.
’’Grrrr...’’
’’Grrr..’’
As if that one growl was a signal, more and more such growls sounded around him, slowly turning into roars.
Aleister’s eyes snapped open the moment he felt a swift blow of wind crashing on his body and when he opened his eyes, his hands moved on instincts as he grabbed the front paws of the wolves that pounced on him.
Without wasting another moment, he flipped his body and slapped the wolf to the ground, stretching his paws far apart till his angry growl sounded like an unrecognizable cry.
But before Aleister could realize it, claws dug into his back as they dragged through his skin.
’Hisss’
He sucked in a cold breath of air as he jumped back from his spot and pushed himself to his feet.
When the pain in his back subsided slightly, Aleister opened his eyes. And the sight that greeted his vision had him rooted to his spot.
There was not one wolf, but a whole pack of wolves standing in front of him.
And the spot where he was inside was not an open ground, but instead, it was a huge wide cage. He was the only person, trapped between a pack of wolves.
Aleister’s eyes narrowed, his mind racing as he gazed around the place. He noticed the huge crowd of people, who were dressed in strange clothes surrounding the cage as they looked at him in displeasure. He could see the apparent hatred in their eyes for him.
The last thing he remembered was that he had stepped inside the portal that had been opened up in the sea court.
But following that, he had no recollection of any other events.
’’Grrr...’’
The wolves howled in a symphony, their gazes predatory.
Aleister arched an eyebrow, ’’Go away while you can,’’ his index finger twirled. To think that these silly little things thought they could bring any harm to him.
As if they could hear the mockery in his voice, the wolves growled and pounced on him in a pack.
Aleister lazily pointed his finger at them.
A second passed.
Another moment.
Nothing happened.
And Aleister could still see those wolves who were a moment away from landing on his body in a pack and tearing him to pieces.
Still in disbelief, he reacted instinctively and rolled to the other side. The wolves smacked themselves on the tall and thick bars of the cage as some of them landed huddled on the ground.
Aleister looked at his hand, trying to summon his divine powers but nothing seemed to be working. He was unable to sense an ounce of power in his body and he had no clue why.
Before he could contemplate any further, one of the wolves pounced at him, claws pointed straight at his chest. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Aleister looked at the wolf as he stood rooted to his spot. He could not help but think of that sight from years ago when he had been exiled into that forest. Weak and helpless, he had been cornered and attacked by the pack of wolves who tortured him endlessly until he thought he would not survive that torment.
