Chapter 145: A new semester

"This... is interesting."

Kaiser remarked slowly. He knew about the Lycanthrope Bloodline and their abilities.

They were the closest things to beastkins, except that they were usually full humans. Their history dated many centuries ago, even centuries before the Age of Awakening.

Then, they had merely been whispers, written into stories that scare kids to sleep or written into fantasies to make earnings on popular sites. Now, however, they were confirmed real and existing—though rare.

President Anthony continued. "According to what I know, their first transformation turns them into a mindless beast craving only meat only. That was why I interrupted the process."

Kaiser tilted his head, curious. "How did you even do that? I don’t think just knocking them unconscious would work."

"You’re right." The blonde man nodded, "A normal chop to the neck would just make it easier for his bestial side to erupt. So I simply force-fed normal essence into him until it was suppressed."

"Ah. I see it now."

Nodding, Kaiser understood. It was just like pouring cold water into hot water until it got cold.

’The President is always so smart.’

Reas came over at that moment with a tray of tea. She placed a cup before them each, then took a cup for herself.

Although he had coffee not long ago, Kaiser still took the tea. He took a sip, nodded at Secretary Reas, then turned back to President Anthony.

"In that case, he might be worth observing."

The blindfolded man nodded, then said softly. "Which is why I want you to watch over him, Kaiser."

"You’re worried the others wouldn’t be able to handle him if he suddenly turned?"

"You understand me so well, Kaiser. Thank you."

"Wait. I haven’t agreed yet!"

"I’ll spar with you at the end of the next month—May."

"Great! I’ll ensure he doesn’t make anyone bleed."

"Just don’t kill him."

"Of course, of course."

Reas sat nearby, watching their exchange with a strange expression.

’Why does he seem so different around the President?’

She didn’t know, and perhaps she would never know.

......

Time passed, and the seemingly eternal holiday ended. School officially resumed on the first of May, with every student present in their respective classes.

First-Year, Class-E was filled with its students who were gathered and having light chats. Although there were no reunion hugs, they still flowed easily, reminiscing about their fun times during the holiday.

Only a few people felt disconnected and detached from the atmosphere.

Sebastian Hemsworth, the sole heir of the gigantic tech organization, sat with his legs crossed, admiring his own looks in a new mirror. Those sitting near him ignored him, already used to this attitude of his.

Mordica Nerth sat in the middle of the class, lone and solitary. She polished her nails quietly with a cold expression on her face. Even until now, she hadn’t made a single friend within the class.

At the far back, sat the most attractive and detached student—Kaiser Solace. He laid on the table, his eyes half-opened as he read a novelkiss on his phone.

His reputation and indifference towards Eric’s expulsion made his classmates fear him, but it also added to his mysteriousness and attractiveness.

On the girl’s anonymous forum, someone even claimed he looked so gentle like a puppy. However, barely any of them knew that Kaiser’s reason for inactivity was merely... boredom.

’Tch. Boring. The plot is predictable.’ 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

He thought as he lost interest in the book he was reading. He locked his phone, placing it on the table. His eyes closed gently, and the murmurs of his classmates slipped into his mind.

"You want to sleep? The first lecture starts soon, idiot."

Hazel’s sharp reprimand made him roll his eyes, but he still rose up.

He yawned lazily, then glanced at the door.

’Ho?’

The classroom door slid open, and the familiar sound of clacking heels silenced the students.

Instructor Rina walked in, carrying her tablet in one hand as she climbed up the podium.

"Good morning, Class-E."

They all replied to her with nods and subtle smiles. Immediately, Rina continued.

"Welcome back from your semester break. It is good to see you’re all alive and kicking."

Dropping such a dark humor randomly, she ignored their change in expressions and continued.

"Just as you know, lectures have fully resumed and your academics matter a lot. Also, our Combat Training classes would move to the next level of achieving Perfect Combat Harmony."

Her cold green eyes carried an intense gaze as she leaned forward.

"Keep in mind, this semester will be harder than the last. Don’t let your little achievement the previous semester get into your head."

The students nodded in understanding, their faces carrying masks of seriousness.

"Alright, let’s begin our first lecture in History class."

She took a glance at Kaiser and Logan, then powered on the projector. The next moment, the lecture notes were updated on the screen.

"During the last semester, we spoke a lot about the history of the world before the Age of Awakening. This semester, however, we are going to discuss more on history starting from the Age of Awakening. This will be an interactive class, so you’re free to ask questions."

Turning slightly to face the projector, she started.

"We all have a rough idea of how the Awakening started."

"On a New Year’s Eve, millions of teenagers at the age of 17 mysteriously disappeared. They reappeared days later—different and fewer in numbers. Less than half of them survived the Awakening."

"The Awakening brought about a great change in their psychology, and many pursued different dreams that would consume the world. In the end, only the Awakened could actually stop each other."

"Those recruited by the governments worked effectively, killing or arresting the rogues before they could cause too much damage to the already-fractured world."

"These Awakened are recognized as heroes and the first generation of Awakened humans. Several of them became powerful figures who established their own clans or guilds, or even ruled their respective nations."

Alisa suddenly raised a hand. After getting the signal from her, she asked. "Was that when the Legendary World Emperor was born?"

Instantly, the gazes of the other students grew excited.

Rina nodded, a subtle reverent expression on her face.

"Yes. Among the First generation of Awakened was the World Emperor Wu Xiao."
