Extra Survival Guide to Overpowering Hero and Villain-Chapter 251: Dungeon III
They did not leave the chamber right away.
Fenric listened again.
Carefully.
No movement.
No sound from above.
"This should be the edge of the next floor," he said.
Liana looked around and pointed to a cracked stone ramp at the far side.
"Downward," she said. "Different air."
They approached slowly.
The ramp led into a wider drop.
Not a sharp fall, but a clear change.
As they stepped down, the air changed.
Warmer.
More humid.
Fenric felt it immediately.
"Flying types," he said. "I can feel movement in the air."
Liana nodded. "Ceiling is higher too."
The new area opened into a broad cavern.
The ceiling was tall.
Jagged stone hung down in sharp points.
Small holes dotted the walls and ceiling.
Fenric raised his bow but did not aim yet.
Then it happened.
A fluttering sound.
Soft at first.
Then louder.
Shapes dropped from above.
Dungeon bats.
Large wings.
Thin bodies.
Sharp screeching cries.
"Above us," Fenric said.
"I’ll cover close range," Liana replied.
Fenric stepped back and fired upward.
One bat fell.
Then another.
More moved.
Four.
Maybe five.
They did not attack together.
They circled.
Liana threw a short blade.
Wind Aura pushed it upward.
It struck a bat mid-air.
Fenric fired again.
Two more fell.
The last bat screeched and tried to escape into a ceiling hole.
Fenric shot it before it reached cover.
Silence returned, broken only by dripping water.
Fenric exhaled slowly.
"Flying floor," he said. "But not crowded."
Liana looked up.
"We need to watch the ceiling from now on."
They moved forward carefully.
The floor sloped gently.
The cavern split into smaller open spaces connected by stone bridges.
More bat bones lay on the ground.
Old ones.
"This floor feeds on flyers," Liana said.
Fenric nodded.
They crossed the first bridge.
Halfway across, Fenric stopped.
"Movement," he said quietly.
From the far side, two larger shapes lifted into the air.
Dungeon winged rats.
Bigger than normal rats.
Short wings.
Fast.
"They rush," Liana said.
Fenric nodded.
The first rat flew straight at them.
Fenric fired at close range.
It dropped instantly.
The second dodged and swooped low.
Liana stepped forward and stabbed upward.
Wind Aura cut clean.
The body hit the stone and stopped moving.
They waited again.
No response.
"This floor suits us," Fenric said. "Your reach and my range."
"Yes," Liana replied. "As long as we don’t get swarmed."
They continued deeper into the floor.
The ceiling stayed high.
More holes appeared. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
More signs of flying creatures.
Fenric kept his bow ready.
They moved forward step by step.
Fenric kept his eyes on the ceiling.
Liana watched the sides and the path ahead.
The stone bridges ended.
The ground became wider again.
The cavern here was open.
Air moved slowly.
Not strong, but constant.
Fenric felt it.
"Air currents," he said. "Something big can fly here."
Liana nodded. "We stay near walls. Less angles."
They followed the left side of the cavern.
After a short distance, they heard wings.
Not fast.
Not many.
A single shadow passed over them.
Fenric stopped.
"One," he said. "Larger."
From above, a dungeon hawk descended.
Wide wings.
Sharp beak.
Hard eyes.
It did not rush.
It circled once.
"Smart," Liana said.
Fenric waited.
When it dove, he fired.
The arrow grazed its wing.
Not enough.
The hawk screeched and pulled up.
Liana moved forward and threw her spear.
Wind Aura pushed it straight.
The spear hit the hawk’s chest.
The body fell hard onto the stone floor.
Fenric nodded. "Good timing."
They waited again.
Nothing followed.
They took the core and moved on.
The cavern narrowed slightly.
The ceiling lowered.
Holes became fewer.
Fenric relaxed a little, but kept his bow ready.
After another turn, they reached a wide ledge.
Below it was a drop.
Not deep, but open.
Bones were scattered below.
Many wing bones.
"This is a feeding zone," Liana said.
Fenric nodded. "Which means more."
They did not jump down.
Fenric picked up a small stone and tossed it.
It hit the ground below.
Instantly, movement.
Three dungeon bats rose from below.
Then another two.
"They were waiting," Fenric said.
He fired quickly.
Two bats fell before gaining height.
Liana blocked one that rushed too close and struck it down.
The last two tried to scatter.
Fenric shot one.
The last escaped deeper into the cavern.
They waited.
No follow-up.
Fenric exhaled.
"Still manageable," he said.
Liana nodded. "But this floor reacts faster."
They climbed down carefully.
The ground below was rough but stable.
They marked the area on the map.
"This floor is mostly flyers," Fenric said. "Low armor, high movement."
"Yes," Liana replied. "Good training, but no rushing."
They moved on from the feeding zone.
The path sloped gently downward again.
The ceiling stayed high, but the holes became larger.
Fenric felt more movement in the air.
"More nests ahead," he said.
Liana nodded. "We don’t stop in open areas."
They kept close to the wall and advanced.
Soon, they heard constant fluttering.
Not loud.
But steady.
Ahead, the cavern widened into a large open space.
Stone pillars rose from the ground to the ceiling.
Between them were hanging rock formations.
Many small shapes clung upside down.
Dungeon bats.
At least ten.
Fenric stopped immediately.
"Too many," he said quietly.
Liana looked around. "But they’re resting."
"Yes," Fenric replied. "If we’re careful, we can thin them."
He took a breath and aimed high.
One arrow.
Clean shot.
A bat dropped and hit the ground.
The others stirred.
Not all.
Only three took flight.
Fenric fired again.
One fell.
Liana stepped forward and struck another as it rushed low.
The third tried to circle behind.
Fenric turned and shot it mid-air.
Silence returned.
The rest stayed still, clinging to the ceiling.
"They react in groups," Liana said. "Small response."
Fenric nodded. "We move slowly. No loud movement."
They crossed the chamber carefully.
No more bats moved.
On the far side, the path narrowed again.
The air became less active.
Fenric relaxed his shoulders slightly.
"This floor ends soon," he said.
Liana looked ahead. "I feel a boundary."
After a short walk, they reached a stone arch.
Beyond it, the air felt different.
Heavier.
Still.
Fenric stopped.
"End of the flying zone," he said.
Liana nodded. "Next area won’t be aerial."
They marked the archway on the map.
"We stop here for today," Fenric said. "Good progress."
Liana agreed. "We pushed far enough."
They turned back, retracing their steps carefully.
