Chapter 227: No Mercy for Vermin

They didn’t even have time to coordinate an attack.

In a fraction of a second, Kris was between them. He had barely moved to the naked eye.

He grabbed one of them by the throat.

The air around his hand began to vibrate.

The next instant, the scout’s body caught fire.

The flames did not spread outward. They seemed to be born from within.

The student screamed, his voice tearing through the canyon’s silence. His flesh was devoured by the flames. The smell of burnt flesh spread quickly, leaving only his charred corpse.

The other scout stumbled backward.

"A monster!!! What do you- what do you want?"

Kris slowly turned his head toward him. His amber eyes shone behind the mask.

"Is Godwin around here?"

"No-no..."

"..."

Kris’s gaze remained cold.

The scout swallowed, feeling the smoke from his comrade rising to his nostrils.

"I-I’m telling the truth sir!"

A short silence settled in.

Then Kris continued:

"Good... Then who is leading this expedition?"

"It’s Sire Eugene..."

Kris slightly tilted his head. He vaguely remembered this Eugene who had made a name for himself around the school.

A pretentious third-circle mage who had humiliated himself in front of the half-beast Kitsune.

"Thanks for the information,"

He turned away.

The scout remained frozen for a few seconds, incredulous. Then he let out a trembling breath.

"Fuck, I dodged a bullet."

*BOOM*

As he leaped, the sand exploded under Kris’s feet.

A blazing aura burst violently from his body, the heat wave spreading in a ten-meter radius. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

The scout didn’t even have time to scream before the flames engulfed him completely.

When the heat subsided, only blackened ashes mixed with the ground remained.

Kris briefly scanned the area, checking that no witness had survived.

"No mercy for those who serve dark shit."

He adjusted his spear on his back.

Down below, the students continued collecting the mana lake, unaware that the reaper was extremely close.

...

The impact cracked the ground. An intense heat wave spread in a circle around him, hurling sand and stone shards. The students jerked their heads up, interrupting their collection around the liquefied mana lake.

For a second, no one understood what was happening.

The next instant, a pressure comparable to Godwin’s gravity fell upon them.

An overwhelming blazing aura deployed around Kris. The air vibrated with heat. The ground began to blacken at his feet.

He hadn’t even drawn his spear, nor used his art or wind spells. Why bother? He didn’t need to.

One student took a step back, sensing imminent danger.

"Wh-who are you?!"

Kris advanced with a single step.

Another student charged at him, using his sword reinforced by Aura. Kris grabbed the arm holding the weapon and snapped it cleanly.

*Crack* A dry sound that sent chills down the spine echoed...

He followed with a knee strike to the abdomen. The body was hurled backward and did not get up.

Then another idiot tried to strike him from the side.

Kris pivoted and struck with the back of his hand. The raw power was enough to send the student crashing against a rock wall. The impact left a red mark on the stone, his arm had been broken.

Panic spread.

"He’s rank B! No... It’s... Way more than that!"

"Back off! Back off! We are from the Pendragon faction!"

The blazing aura intensified. Clothes began to catch fire on contact with the ambient heat. Some students screamed even before being touched.

Kris advanced without speeding up.

Every movement was precise, without wasting unnecessary energy.

He struck once, and that was enough to kill most of the students around him.

In less than a minute, nearly twenty students lay on the ground. Some were charred. Others lay torn apart in the crater formed by his arrival.

This was one of the reasons why Kaiser despised the protagonist even when reading the novel. Kris was a hypocrite who played the righteous hero. Kaiser was an authentic guy; even if he manipulated and deceived, he never hid his true self and everything he did was for his selfish goals, whereas Kris did the same thing but played the valiant warrior.

Was this revenge by massacring twenty students who had nothing to do with Isabella? Even Kaiser had not yet committed such impulsive actions.

Off to the side, Eugene watched the scene, his face pale.

His hands were shaking.

"It’s impossible..."

He had never seen such a display of brute force since the one Kara had inflicted on him, and even then... He didn’t have Professor Raymond to protect him... So he was very close to death.

He retreated, then activated the magic circle he had recently learned upon reaching the fourth circle.

A platform of compressed air formed under his feet. His body rose abruptly.

"I have to warn... The Pendragon!"

He gained altitude and fled at high speed, leaving the massacre zone behind.

At the center of the crater, Kris remained motionless for a few seconds.

He slightly raised his head.

"A vermin trying to escape?"

With a fluid motion, he brought his spear from his back to his hand. He raised the weapon above his shoulder, his arm tensing. While that cowardly racist was already nothing more than a dot over a kilometer away, veins appeared on Kris’s forearm. A mana he should never have been able to master, an ardent flow of arcane mana exploded.

*Fiiiiiiinnnnnk!*

The spear tore through the air with a high-pitched whistle, leaving an incandescent trail behind it, faster than the naked eye of a normal human could follow.

Nearly a kilometer away, Eugene had just slowed down, believing he had put enough distance between them, when a strange noise reached him.

"What is that sound?" he murmured to himself, instinctively turning around.

He saw a bright point growing at a terrifying speed.

"Shit..."

He didn’t have time to incant.

The spear pierced straight through his head.

*Boom*

The explosion sent bone fragments and brain matter flying into the air. His body fell heavily back into the canyon, lifeless.

Silence fell over the area again. His body, now inert, tilted backward and dropped toward the ground like the dark racist shit he had been.

...

Higher up, a few meters from the canyon’s edge, two figures observed the scene.

They were concealed by shadow magic, making their presence completely undetectable.

"So, Isabella, are you sure this is the brother you once knew?" said The Predator.

The silhouette beside him did not answer immediately.

Her gaze was fixed on the smoking crater below, on the cold-blooded massacre her brother had just carried out.

A few hours earlier...
