Chapter 67: Crimson Purgatory

Several attendants soon entered my room and helped me settle into the bed. One of them soon brought in my dinner, followed by all of my items from the Wastes.

"There is everything we were able to salvage when we picked you from the Wastes, everything is in exactly the same state as we found it. Unfortunately your doctors had to cut off most of your clothes during the healing process so we weren’t able to savage those." Kaelix told me as the attendant put my stuff consisting of a spatial card and a small hand sewn leather bag on my night stand.

Once that was done, he ensured that I didn’t need anything else, wished me farewell, and left.

It hadn’t even been a minute since he had stepped out of the room when suddenly the faces of attendants in the room began to morph, changing from human to more twisted and demonic.

The hallucinations... they were becoming worse.

I, however, didn’t show any outward reactions. Instead, I called them out and asked them to leave the room. I wanted to enjoy my food in peace.

Hearing my order one by one, the attendants began to leave. The moment they stepped outside of the room and closed the door, I sprung up into action.

Immediately putting the tray containing my food to the side, I reached out to the items on my nightstand, especially my leather bag.

I really hope they haven’t touched that thing.

Praying to myself, I pulled out the empty water bottles and my spare scarves, throwing them to the side, revealing a small hidden pocket on the inside. Opening up the pocket, I slowly pulled out an obsidian black crown covered in a layer of clothes.

Looking at the crown, I couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief. Out of everything, this had been my biggest worry while deciding to come here. The damn thing, for some reason, would simply refuse to go inside my spatial storage, making it quite a headache to hide.

Thank God they didn’t check my stuff. Sighing to myself, I unwrapped the crown, taking it out of its bindings.

The aura of despair and anguish radiating out of the crown was still as palpable as the day I had found it.

If there was a perfect time for me to check what this crown did or if it even did anything, it was now.

I highly doubt I was going to get another swarm of doctors capable enough of regrowing a new leg at my beck and call, not to mention the series of attendants who would rush me to the said doctors within seconds.

Now how to use it, it was a crown so it was probably a good idea to wear it.

"Lord of the Crimson Veil." I slowly muttered to myself while bringing the crown closer to my face before gently placing it over my head.

...

...

The world descended into silence as I heard a scream reverberate through my head, followed by a chortle of laughter. I couldn’t understand most of it; the voice was too shrill, yet the tone made it sound like pleas.

Someone spoke, his voice heavy and gruff.

Blood trickled down my mouth. My head felt as if it was about to explode into a million pieces.

I was going to die.

I had to save myself.

With all the will power I could possibly muster I raised my shaking hands and grabbed the crown. Not wasting any other second I threw it away to the floor.

The voices immediately stopped as the world returned to normal. I looked down at my shirt only to notice a trail of blood escaping out of my mouth; my chest was bloodied with scratch wounds while the tips of my fingernails were stained red in blood.

Did I bite my tongue? I questioned myself as the normal world began to turn blurry once again.

Well, this wasn’t good.

"Someo-" I tried to scream for help but only a whisper escaped out of my mouth.

Before I knew it my body had gotten stiff while my vision had already turned dark. The last thing I saw was the obsidian crown glimmer in the distance.

--

It was already night by the time I regained consciousness. My head was still a little woozy, but by now, I was already used to that.

"What the hell was that?" I couldn’t help but question myself while remembering the entire ordeal.

I didn’t even remember most of it, there was a lot of screaming, laughter, sometimes the person would start crying.

And what was he saying? Crimson Purgatory... something.

I slowly got down from the bed and picked up the crown.

"Could that have been the voice of The Lord of Crimson Veil?" I lightly spoke and began assessing myself for any damages.

As far as my body goes, although I was mentally exhausted, I hadn’t received any wounds other than my tongue and scratch marks on my chest. Yet the one thing that made me sigh in relief was my soul, which, thanks to god, hadn’t received any additional damages either.

Checking everything, I couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief.

I should still go to the doctor in case there are any internal injuries.

There were a lot of implications regarding what had just happened, not to mention I had gotten another thing to look out for on my already giant list of stuff to research.

After everything I had experienced, I needed to figure out if this thing was even going to be useful for me or not. If what I heard were indeed the ravings of the Lord of the Crimson Veil then it was indeed useful, for now though I needed to stay away from this thing.

My head was still woozy, though, so I hurriedly stashed the crown and laid back down on the bed to sleep.
