Chapter 66: The Risks

Usually, people had to either figure these concepts out by themselves or, in most cases, refer to the beast whose bloodline they had used.

In my case, I didn’t have much of a problem figuring out my concept. My ability to summon the dead, plus my family history of affinities, made it obvious. My concept was ’Death.’

Now, if I had followed the norm myself, than I would have had to spend several months resonating myself with the concept of Death as well. But fortunately or unfortunately I had spent the last few months travelling through the Wastes.

During my travels, I had faced one life-threatening situation after another, fighting against harrowing enemies one by one. In almost all of my encounters, I either faced death or ended up killing my enemy instead.

Yet that was nothing compared to my fight with the reflection, where not only had I personally experienced death who knows how many times, but I had also gotten the one thing that had helped me resonate my soul with the concept of Death more than anything else.

My Salhira, the sword technique I had inherited from Khaldrin, was made specifically to kill my opponents. That sword art alone had increased my resonance to an unimaginable degree, harmonizing my soul with my bloodline.

One couldn’t move up the tiers of cultivation without resonating their soul to a certain threshold without serious consequences to their cultivation or their soul. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Sure, I had no idea what it felt like to have my soul fully harmonized with my bloodline, reaching the third tier of Body Refinement. But a single dive in my soul and I could tell, no feel that I was absolutely ready for advancing to second stage of body refinement, perhaps even the third stage.

"Uncle, I have been ready to advance to the second stage for a while now. In fact, the only reason I couldn’t was because I lacked the ingredients for the advancement ritual." I spoke after taking a deep breath.

"All this time, I have been working hard to further harmonize my soul, and now it has finally reached a point where I am pretty sure I can advance to the third stage."

Uncle Mordek sighed and began rubbing his eyelids with his hands. "Son, don’t take this the wrong way, but you didn’t exactly have the greatest potential when you awakened. Even the highest grades of bloodlines wouldn’t have enough to fix your situation."

"Now you are telling me that it hasn’t even been a couple of years, and you are already ready to advance to the third grade of body refinement, all from some bootleg bloodline essence you somehow managed to get your hands on? And you want to do that the moment you reach the second tier?"

"It’s true, Uncle. I am not lying to you."

"Well, you are either lying to me or hiding something. Listen, Roye, I cannot, and I will not allow you to do this. The risks are too high. I’ll help you with your advancement to second tier; after that, you are going to take some time before attempting this foolishness."

I paused for a second. I had known convincing him was going to be difficult but I had no idea it was going to be this bad.

"Uncle, you know me. I am not the kind of person who needlessly takes risks. How about this, you help me advance to second tier, after that if I advance to third tier if and only if I think my soul has completely harmonized with my bloodline."

Uncle Mordek let out another sigh. "But why do you have to do it instantly after advancing to the second tier? Is there a reason why you are in such a hurry?"

This was it.

I held my tongue for a second, staring at him without saying anything. Eventually, I spoke, my voice as low as a whisper. "Sacred Vanguard Academy, they don’t accept admission applications from anyone under the third tier of Body refinement."

"I was thinking of attending the Academy this year while I was still of age, but then the entire having to travel the wastes alone happened, and now I don’t have much time."

He paused, his shoulders lifted slightly before relaxing.

"You want to attend the academy? It makes sense; you were stuck in the Wastes for the last couple of months, so you don’t know."

"I don’t know what?" I asked when suddenly a knight in obsidian armor knocked on the door before slowly peeking inside the room.

"What is it?" Uncle Mordek asked, his previously compassionate voice nowhere to be seen.

"Apologies My Lord," The knight took a slight glance towards me before continuing. "Lady Isolde has just sent a message to your office, she wishes to talk to you."

Silence stretched in the room as both me and uncle looked at each other.

Shit, I think they found out about me.

"Go to your room and rest; it’s a lengthy subject. It’s better if we talk about this in the morning." Uncle Mordek spoke and walked towards a nearby sink, beginning to clean his blood-soaked body.

Even though I was curious what he was talking about I decided to follow his advice. He was probably going to have a long heart numbing chat in a few minutes, it was better if I got out of his way.

Saying goodbye to him one last time, I directed my wheelchair out of the room. As the knights closed the door behind me, I came face to face with Kaelix.

"My Lord." Kaelix greeted me with a smile.

"Kaelix." I gave him a subtle nod. "Mind showing me to my room."

"Of course not." Kaelix got behind me and began pushing my wheelchair forward throughout the hallway.

We soon reached my room. Perhaps it was for my convenience, but it was awfully close to the butchering room I had just met uncle in.

Kaelix took me inside and tried to help me get on the bed when I stopped him; once again, I was capable of doing that much, at least.

I got up from the chair on my old leg and hopped on the bed.

Seeing that I had gotten settled, Kaelix signaled outside and called in an attendant.
