Chapter 71: Sacred Vanguard Academy

"Your baggage has already been delivered to the academy, my Lord; they will be provided for you once you reach the campus," Kaelix spoke as the car traveled through the city, swiftly making its way toward the Sacred Vanguard Academy’s old campus.

"One other thing, I am sure Lord Mordek asked me to inform you once again not to worry about the consequences. If you ever get into any kind of trouble, please know that he’ll be there to have your back."

I nodded towards Kaelix while internally tuning him out. I have already had this same conversation with my uncle tens of times. I wasn’t going to act on it, of course, no matter how many times he said it. At least not until I ended up in some serious stuff.

A few months had already passed since my return from the Wastes. A lot has happened since then, the most important being my finally ascending to the second stage of body refinement.

I took a glance at my status screen.

Not only that, with the help of Uncle Mordek, I also managed to hunt some Darkness and Lightening-based monsters, increasing Raven and Wraith’s levels to level 2 and level and upgrading the spells as well.

The side effect of letting Khaldren take over has also been mostly healed as well, no longer did I saw falling meteors the very second I took a look at the sky.

The one thing I had struggled however was my Salhira. After I had finally healed my leg and ascended to second stage, I had thrown myself into training, trying my best to improve on it, to go beyond my current level of only being able to use the basic movements.

That venture had sadly failed, only progressing to a minimal amount that wasn’t even worth mentioning. It was like when I had tried to use it against my reflection, even though my scope of movements had somewhat increased due to my increased physical ability, the technique itself wasn’t working as it was supposed to. Not to mention, the fact that I could only use it while trying to kill someone didn’t work in my favor.

In the end I hadn’t come up with a satisfying conclusion, only that I needed more practise, killing more creatures which thankfully due to this new initiative I was going to get a load of.

The car soon screeched, coming to a halt in front of a giant building with the name Sacred Vanguard Academy written on the main gate.

"Seems like this is it." I spoke looking at the group of students walking inside in academy uniforms.

"Thank you for everything, Kaelix—for all that you’ve done over these past few months. I truly appreciate it." I turned to Kaelix and spoke in an earnest tone.

"It was my pleasure to serve My Lord." Kaelix bowed as the driver opened the door to my side.

Giving him a final goodbye, I stepped outside the car, only to come face to face with tens of academy students throwing stares my way.

"Wait, who is that? That’s not Ashe Valdrin."

"Of course, it’s not her, you idiot. Does that look like Lady Valdrin to you in any way?"

"Then who is it?"

"I know him; isn’t he that wastrel son the Valdrin family threw out a few years ago? What was his name again?"

A series of murmurs erupted around me, all of them discussing the same thing. I silently turned around to gaze at the car behind me, especially the Valdrin family sigil fixed proudly on the side.

That must be it; they must have thought it was my sister.

Shaking my head in derision, I was just about to walk forward when suddenly, the murmurs around me transformed into shouts.

"Oh my god, look there, this time it has to be her."

One of the girls in the front spoke, prompting me to turn around. From the other side of the road came a caravan of several vehicles, each of them rushing towards the academy with a large Valdrin house banner displayed on their side.

The caravan of cars parked in front of the academy, and immediately, a plethora of armed knights stepped out of the vehicles, making way and securing the area around the entrance.

Once that was done one of the guards walked towards the car in the center and opened the door, revealing the figure of a young black haired girl.

The surroundings changed the moment Ashe stepped out of her car. Everyone in the periphery took a step back, clearly overwhelmed by the sudden aura of death surrounding her figure.

Everyone but myself. Unlike everyone, I had spent my whole life like this, so I wasn’t particularly bothered by the deathly aura. So, while everyone was busy gawking, I decided to make full use of the chance.

The crowd had stopped, and there was no longer a group of students blocking the main gate.

So I began walking forward; I had only taken a couple of steps when suddenly the group of guards rushed and stood in front of me, blocking my way, ensuring a safe passage for their princess

"What the hell." Annoyed, I cursed out when I heard the sound of sudden footsteps behind me.

I slowly turned around to see the figure of my sister standing behind me, looking at me with a mix of surprise and absolute derision.

Did no one tell her that Uncle had used his connections to get me in? I was about to ask when she walked right past me inside the academy.

Seriously? I narrowed my eyes. It has been years since we last saw each other and she is still treating me like some trash in the wind.

People seemed to have noticed it, too; it hadn’t even been a moment since she and her guards left when the crowd went into uproar.

"Did you see that? She completely ignored him."

"Of course, she did. Do you not know who this guy is? Who in their right mind would want to associate with him."

All right, this was simply becoming ridiculous. Not too keen on hearing more insults, I simply walked inside the academy.

I couldn’t care less if these people wanted to talk shit about me, but the least they could do was very discreet about it.

Walking inside the academy, I hurriedly made my way towards the giant map on the side of the path.

We were supposed to all gather in the large ceremonial hall before ten, it was already nine thirty and I wanted to reach there as soon as I could.

Thankfully, the hall wasn’t too far away. Making sure I had carefully memorized the map, I started walking, eventually reaching the giant hall.

There were still a couple of minutes left until 10 am, so I just decided to walk towards and wait around in the corner, silently observing the incoming and already present students, searching for a particular person.

He is going to attend the academy, right?

My eyes soon fell upon a blonde guy with red eyes, standing on the other side of the room looking vigilantly towards the students in his surrounding.

Is that him? He does match the description.

I walked forward from my spot and began moving towards his position, trying my best to look as nonchalant as possible.

Unfortunately I had only reached half of the way when the doors the hall suddenly closed shut, startling everyone in the room.

At the same time, the lights around us dimmed, illuminating the newly made stage in front of the hall.

I immediately looked down at my watch. It was already 10 am.

"Let’s not waste any more time now that everyone is here."

A sudden voice caused everyone to pay attention on the stage.

A middle aged woman dressed in black robes walked out, mere sight of her causing everyone to quiet down in fear.

That was her, Mia Rhyden, one of the strongest figures in the entire alliance, the likes of which even the heads of three major houses had to respect.

"I am not a fan of big speeches, so I’ll try to keep this short. First of all, let me wholeheartedly welcome every single person here to the sacred Vanguard Academy. Even though not every one of you deserves to be here, it’s still commendable that you have decided to put your life on the line for humanity’s interest."

Her words caused everyone, especially those like me who had entered by connections, to pause their breath.

"But I am not going to dwell too much on that; I am sure that the alliance’s higher-ups have good enough foresight to approve lowering our academy’s threshold for admission. Instead, I am going to continue with my main point.
