Chapter 70: The Talk-2

"Wha- why are you trying to scare me so bad? Since the start of the conversation... it’s like you don’t want me to attend the academy."

"That’s because I absolutely don’t. Things are already going to be dangerous there, plus all of this. I am pretty sure you are going to die in your first few months, either by that psychopath Serenth boy or your vengeful ex-fiancé."

"I wouldn’t have been having this conversation with you sister Roye, you know why? Because I know she can take care of herself. You however... absolutely not."

"Uncle, I understand your concern." I began. "I also understand that my past actions have deemed a bit unreliable in your eyes but, I want you to know- I am going to be attending that academy, with or without you help."

Silence descended into the room as both Uncle and I stared into each other’s eyes.

I could understand where he was coming from, Roye had never been very reliable in the past. Even the current me was a bit reluctant to enter the academy, especially after everything he had told me about the situation in the academy.

But I didn’t have a choice. This was a dangerous world and without a noble family to support myself I was going to need an organization to support myself. Plus the protagonist was going to be there, even if the plot had drastically changed there were certain things that had to still be the same.

Our staring contest continued for a while until, eventually, Uncle Mordek closed his eyes.

Sigh. He let out a deep breath before speaking.

"You’ve changed, son. If this were years ago, you would have backed out the moment I mentioned the Hollows. You sure as hell wouldn’t have stared me down for this long in pure stubbornness."

"Alright." He got up from his seat. "Maybe the streets have taught you how to survive after all. Not to mention, given your temperament, even if I say no, you would still try to get admission without my help."

"If I cant stop you, then the least I can do is try to help you." He walked over to me and looked me in the eyes.

"Finish your breakfast and focus on healing. We’ll conduct your advancement ritual the moment your legs heal." He turned to our side and began walking towards the door.

"Also forget what I said about me not being able to help you while you are in the academy. If you are in trouble call me, I’ll deal with the consequences." He spoke and stepped out the door, shutting it close behind him.

Seeing him leave, I couldn’t help but get a confusing feeling in my head, and I immediately turned around to look at the end of the table.

"He barely ate his food."

--

The sun was quite high in the sky when Mordek made his way into his fort’s dungeon. Today was a special day; after months of work, he was finally about to finish his masterpiece.

Normally, he would have been jumping in excitement, but today, he couldn’t help but feel a little annoyed as an annoying, worrying feeling kept occupying his mind.

That damned nephew, since when did he become so stubborn? Even after all the dangers I listed.

He shook his head; in the end, it was he who was going to have to deal with all of this trouble. He might even have to call his brother, Roye’s father, to ask for some favors.

He let out a large sigh. But now wasn’t the time to deal with any of this. Right now there was something more important that needed to be done.

He walked down into the basements and found himself standing at the entrance of a giant underground hall filled with hundreds chimeras bodies. All of the carcasses were arranged properly on large tables in long rows.

One by one, Mordek and his knights began to walk past the corpses, eventually entering the room at the back of the hall.

The guards stationed outside greeted him and opened the door, revealing a series of cells filled with prisoners inside.

The moment Mordek entered the giant prison one of the guards inside rushed towards him while other two dragged in a chained prisoner.

"Ready the others as well; we have to finish a lot of them by the end of the day," Mordek ordered while entering one of the empty cells at the far end of the prison.

There was a reason he hadn’t eaten his fill today, he had to work all day and a full stomach made him sleepy.

As the prisoner was thrown on a metal chair, Mordek brought out his series of tools from the spatial storage he had been using yesterday to gut the chimera and other beast corpses.

Taking out the skewer, he walked over to the tied-up prisoner, who, at this point, was shivering to his bones.

"I’ll try to make it as quick as possible." Mordek assured him, "Meanwhile, try to scream. I can’t completely extract your consciousness unless strong emotions are involved."

Soon, the entire prison was enshrouded by a series of loud screams and shouts.

--

"Fractured bones, torn muscles, multiple instances of gashings and burnings, and the list goes on and on. My Lady, I am afraid but we cannot make any more delays; we need to send you into surgery right now."

The doctor in front spoke to Aria while reading his report.

After days of travels, Aria had finally managed to contact her family a couple of days ago, finally managing to get rescued and brought home yesterday. A team of doctors and healers had been assigned to her the moment she had walked inside, testing every inch of her body, looking for every last wound they could find.

Aria didn’t answer; in fact, she had been assigned surgery the moment she had arrived at the estate yesterday, but she had refused to do so. She wasn’t opposed to the surgery, but she needed to find something first.

She slowly turned to her assistant, standing behind the doctors, and asked. "Did you find anything on Zane Ashwood?"

Zane Ashwood, the man she had spent months traveling through the Wastes, the man with the scariest bloodline she had ever seen, and the man who had murdered her friend in front of her very eyes.

She had been asking the same question time and time again, only for her assistant to respond that they were still looking. She had expected this time to be the same as well when suddenly the assistant began walking towards her. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

"My Lady, we did find a Zane Ashwood that matches your description, but there is a problem."

She handed the tablet to Aria, displaying the picture of Zane Ashwood, the same person she had spent the last months with.

"Zane Ashwood died some years ago." The assistant spoke, confirming Aria’s suspicion.

"Perhaps we should keep looking?" The assistant tried to speak but was interrupted by Aria. "There is no need."

Aria slowly turned towards the doctor. "I am ready; take me to surgery."

She had already confirmed her suspicion, there was no need to waste anymore time. Zane Ashwood whoever he was, she was going to find him, no matter what she had to do.
