Extra's Guide to Surviving a Dark Fantasy World-Chapter 84: First Day of Class-2
Seylith and I, being the scions of the three great houses, had known each other quite well in the past. Still, it didn’t seem like he had come here to chat with me.
Suddenly, the dots began to connect themselves in my head. Originally, in the novel, Soren was supposed to beat up one of Seylith’s Lackey, setting him up as this big villain.
But that wasn’t the case anymore; the plot had changed too much, leading to a race between him and house Valdrin. Both of them had already recruited most of the faculty to their sides, leaving behind neutral students: commoner yet talented students like Soren.
"It sure has," I replied while making sure to keep my gaze steady.
"I must say I was pretty impressed by your performance yesterday, especially your friend’s." His eyes fell upon Soren as if trying to peer into all his secrets. "It was quite an amazing performance, especially for someone still in the second stage of Body refinement."
"Oh, and by the way, you were excellent as well, Roye; I mean, the last part was a bit... flamboyant, yes. But other than that... I was quite surprised when you immediately rushed out from the back and helped us break out of the formation. And by the way, don’t listen to those rumors everyone is spreading about you; people have a tendency to exaggerate things, especially when it comes to people like us."
Listening to the clear accusation of me for taking that pill. I intentionally narrowed my eyes while internally letting out a sigh of relief.
He had bought it. I had honestly been a bit afraid that someone like Seylith might have seen through the fake pills, but thankfully, he and I had known each other since our childhood, with him knowing the results of my awakening.
This was even more evident by how he was behaving. Normally, if he had suspected anything about me, a Valdrin and a potential rival, he wouldn’t have been acting so distant as he was now, where he was putting
"So Soren, me, and some of our classmates are meeting up after classes today in a little get-together session just to know each other a bit better. How about you join us?" Seylith asked while extending his right hand towards Soren.
"You sure they would be okay with it? I am not exactly a noble like the rest of you."
"You hang out with my dear friend Roye here." Soren gestured towards my direction.
"His... uh, his situation is a bit different than the rest of you lot," Soren answered, all the while sending awkward glances my way.
Perhaps it was his expression, or it was the fact that Seylith didn’t want to waste any opportunity to insult me; he let out a large chuckle.
HAHAHAHA.
By now, everyone in the class was already sneaking glances at us, or rather at Seylith, to figure out what he was doing with the two outcasts. This, however, quite literally made them turn around in their seats.
"Yes, yes. I am sorry. It’s just the way we were conversing like in old times; it totally slipped my mind. Anyway."
He once again looked towards Soren and extended his right hand.
"Please do not worry about the trivial matters of our birth, Soren; you are most definitely welcome to join us."
Soren shrugged. "Well, if that’s the case.," He stood up from his seat and was about to extend his army out as well when his body suddenly froze.
What is he doing?
Both Seylith and I looked in confusion as Soren stared at Seylith’s outstretched hand, his brows slightly narrowing.
"That’s a nice ring." He spoke up after a while, putting his hand in his pocket and gesturing to Seylith’s hand.
What is he talking about?
I, too, glanced at Seylith’s hand, or rather the ornate golden ring on his index finger, with the sigil of a scorpion on the top.
"This huh? It’s nothing but an ordinary ring; the only reason I wear it is because it was a gift from my grandfather; why do you know something about this ring?"
"No, not really, it just looked interesting, is all." Soren shook his head and sat back down on the seat.
"Now that I think about it, I actually have some things to take care of after class. They are very important, so I don’t think I’ll be able to make it to your party."
"Is that so?" Seylith’s smile dimmed a little.
"Yes, but don’t worry, I’ll make sure to tell you the next time I am free. You can invite me to your party then."
"I see." Seylith’s smile had completely disappeared at this point; seems like he hadn’t expected to receive a flat-out refusal, not to mention such an insulting one.
The classroom seemed to quiet down as both Seylith and Soren stared at each other in deathly silence, neither of them willing to look away when suddenly-.
"Alright, alright, get on your seats right this instant and settle down."
A sudden voice caused the entire class to look towards the door where the figure of a woman in her late twenties, dressed in a teacher’s uniform, had just hurriedly entered the classroom.
"You, in the back, did not hear what I just said?" The teacher spoke once again, getting behind the podium and glaring at Seylith.
"It’s truly a shame you can’t attend today; I was sure we could have enjoyed each other’s company," Seylith spoke up while turning away. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
"Alright, Alright, get back to your seats. I am already too swamped with everything, so I’ll try to keep this as short as possible." The teacher began speaking once again after ensuring that Seylith had returned to his seat in the front.
"My name is Rowena Tarnis, and I will be your homeroom teacher starting today. Today’s class is going to be a short one where you will be given a short introduction to the courses you are supposed to attend in the first year." She took out a remote, and a list of subjects appeared on the board in the front.
