Extra's Guide to Surviving a Dark Fantasy World-Chapter 83: First Day of Class
He is truly determined.
I internally sighed as Soren and I entered the main building and began walking inside the classroom.
I was a hundred percent sure that he had gathered some information about me last night, meaning he also knew about my disgraceful past.
I had originally thought that it would, if not fully, still somewhat deter him from trying to get so close to me. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Yet nothing had happened; here he was, still talking without the slightest change in his behavior.
"So, did you decide what classes you are going to take?" Soren asked as both of us made our way down the hallway towards today’s class.
"Not really, no." I tactfully answered. Of course, I had already decided on the classes; I just didn’t want to tell him in case he wanted to tag along with me once again.
"I haven’t decided mine either, though I do want to learn more about rituals."
Apparently, due to some last-minute complaints from the alliance’s higher-ups and some accusations from the general public, the academy had been forced into making some last-minute changes in the curriculum once again.
Now, although, just like before, we were going to spend the majority of our time training, we were also given choices to diversify our learning opportunities.
Today’s class was going to be just that. We were going to be given a brief introduction to each of these courses before going out to the training field in hopes that some professor might take fancy to us and make us their personal disciples.
We soon reached our destination; on the other side, one could hear the sounds of students chattering and talking. Good, I knew we hadn’t been late, but still, knowing that the teachers hadn’t arrived yet was somewhat relieving on its own.
"This is it," Soren spoke and jumped ahead in excitement, hurriedly opening the door.
Inside, the desks floated in neat rows, facing a holographic display. Above, a soft blue light pulsed from the ceiling, connecting the desks with the holographic display in the front.
Over the desks stood our new classmates dressed in the academy uniforms, most of them with bandages covering some portion of their bodies.
It was as if someone had cast a spell. The entire class fell into a frozen silence the moment they saw both of us behind the door.
"Oh yeah, this is still happening." Soren quietly mumbled while stepping inside the room with the same smile on his face.
I followed behind as well, but for some reason, it felt as if the gazes on me were a bit harsher than Soren.
Especially from the front row, I gently glanced to my side, seeing the figures of Seylith and Aria sitting not too far from each other.
This was another thing that had displayed my shitty luck. Originally, in the book, the entire first year of students had been divided into five classes, with each class consisting of about fifty students.
Of course, our protagonist was assigned to the same class as the rest of our main cast, including Seylith and Aria.
This time, however, considering how much the plot had changed and the fact that the number of classes had been decreased to four instead of five, I had honestly hoped that I would be assigned to a class different from Soren and the main cast. Unfortunately, that sort of wishful thinking immediately blew up in my face the moment I saw that Soren and I had been assigned to the same class.
While they were looking at me, I was also keeping a close tab on my surroundings while Seylith studied me intently, his gaze sweeping me from head to toe; Aria’s eyes burned with a mix of hatred and disgust.
We had never gotten along even when we had been kids and even though we had seen each other during yesterday’s battle, we hadn’t officially met face to face since the incident—in a setting calm enough for her to express just how much she despised me.
"It’s a good thing the academy does not allow violence among their students. Otherwise, these people would have killed us by now. I mean, just look at her." Soren mumbled while quietly signaling towards Aria.
I didn’t answer; instead, I silently made my way toward the back, looking for a single empty seat so I didn’t have to sit next to him.
Unfortunately, that plan was rigged to blow, considering I hadn’t factored in the hostility of the one I would be sitting next to.
A couple of hostile glares and a bunch of ’Don’t you even think about it.’ all that was left for me was the last completely empty row.
Great. I sighed once again before sitting down on an empty seat, with Soren plopping down right beside me.
The class soon resumed its chattering as everyone once again began talking with each other. However, this time, the topic of conversation seemed to be centered around Soren and me, especially about yesterday’s battle, where he had shown his amazing prowess and how I had made a fool of myself in front of all of the first years.
Someone had also spread a rumor about my uncle pulling some strings to get me in the academy, letting others connect the dots regarding me trying to secretly take some pills, which were most likely used to enhance one’s strength.
All in all, everything seemed to have worked out. Other than that, I wasn’t exactly interested in listening to any of their crap, so I laid my head down on my desk and quietly closed my eyes, waiting for our homeroom teacher to arrive.
"Hello there, you must be Soren." Unfortunately, it hadn’t even been five minutes since a sudden, chilling voice forced me to open my eyes and sit up.
I immediately sat up straight, coming face to face with Seylith’s charming face.
Why the hell was he here?
"And Roye Valdrin, it sure has been a while since we last met."
