4 Team of scouts was deployed, it consisted of 1 healing priest, two battle-type priests, and a divination priest. This combination was perfect to hunt someone down. In this case, it was a root of some kind.

It was information gained by the church after they deployed the saintess. Although she had never seen the roots in person, she could get a glimpse through her godly divination. Her ability is only second to the church.

Usually, if you want a precise divination, you would need to prepare to lose something big. However, saintess have the privilege of being god’s chosen. Only require her faith and the item that corresponds to the thing you want an answer to.

When they arrived in Guragua to quell the mutant animals, they had already encountered the root. Well, more accurately, her subordinates had encountered it. They battled the root, managed to collect some parts, and brought them back to her for divination.

However, when she used her powers to divine its location, she discovered that the root could move at incredible speed underground, making it difficult to track through divination. Her ability allowed her to see only the present, not the future.

It was a limitation of the god’s power; any attempt to glimpse the future resulted in a blurry vision that might not even be accurate. She gritted her teeth in frustration. While the root burrowed underground, it also controlled an army of wild animals to attack village after village.

Now, Guragua had become a dead zone, several villages were left abandoned after the attack. Countless life was lost for every second that she couldn’t catch this monster. Now the only real place to stay was a big city with walls to defend against the animal.

The city nobles had to deploy their force and some even revealed a mystic user that they kept secret to save their own life. But they would still lose to a tide of deer, rushing at their face. Only a few survived to reach the city.

The church had records of these kinds of events in its catalog, listed among calamities to watch out for. This particular mutant beast hadn’t appeared since its devastating attack 200 years ago. She doubted anyone else knew about it when it first reappeared.

After that, she rushed to help Guragua, but it was too late. With the recent village burnings, the church’s presence in the region had decreased. Normally, this wouldn’t have been a major issue since their primary role was to look after people. However, the mutant’s appearance quickly showed that having priests in place would have made a difference.

If the church had maintained its presence—even one or two priests per village—fewer lives would have been lost, and the mutant population wouldn’t have exploded so quickly. It almost seemed as if the roots had planned with someone to spread the mutant at the perfect time.

However, that’s only her speculation with no concrete proof. As far as she knows, the root couldn’t speak human language, so working with a heretic would be hard.

After an hour of searching, they finally found a credible lead. The roots seemed aware of her troublesome divination skill, so they had to form multiple teams to investigate each site. The roots left fragments of themselves scattered throughout the region.

If a fragment remained in place, it was not connected to the main body. Her divination told her that the main body had to stay in motion; otherwise, its control over its minions would weaken in one region.

The roots’ main body was a green gem the size of a person’s head, always accompanied by surrounding root tendrils. This gem had to keep moving because of a command distance limitation—if it traveled too far from its minions, the command signal would be delayed. This restriction heavily influenced where the root chose to settle.

Originally, it had stayed in Guragua, but once the saintess arrived with two sixth-circle experts, it dared not remain still. It moved each time the saintess’s extermination team approached, although it never left Guragua. However, after her latest divination, the saintess suspected it was now aiming for Duranberg.

"Do you know why it’s moving to Duranberg?"

The Saintess asked, the guy. He adjusted his square glasses and read the report that had just been sent by a messenger. Traveling by themself, hes’ at least 4th circle combat priest.

"We got an update recently that the church will send reinforcement, a recently selected apostle will come to boost our morale."

"Do you think he’s the bait?"

She had voiced her situation to the Pope after playing this game of cat and house for 3 weeks and about a week later she got this message. She couldn’t tell whether this was the plan of the pope or not.

"Knowing his holiness it’s likely the case."

"Where are they now?"

"They should have arrived by now, but it seems there’s a complication." The letter had specified that the apostle would likely arrive in two to three days on horseback, yet there was no sign of them.

"They should have reached the town near Guragua and headed straight to our camp. We haven’t changed our setup, and our reinforcements haven’t arrived. Either they’ve been wiped out, or they decided to return to His Holiness, the Pope. I strongly suspect the latter, especially since the roots are moving south, indicating a need to close in on someone. The apostle fits the profile."

"Do we mobilize the force?"

Saintress smiles and looks around the encampment.

"Leave some here and take the others with you"

The main army in this region had already been death by Nena, so staying here full force was not necessary. With the root moving to Duranberg they need every person that could fight it to take it down.

"Yes sir"

After that, they rallied a group of priests and set out for the Duranberg.

Pushing through the tide of deer was no easy task, especially with people to protect. However, the village chief had a solution. Her skill was perfect for handling groups of enemies.

She conjured a massive sword made entirely of clear ice and commanded it to slice through the deer. With a single swing, hundreds were killed.

But she could only use it sparingly. Each use left a trace of frostbite on her hands, and excessive use could lead to the destruction of her right hand. Only by wiping the deer from existence could they hope to sleep soundly at night.

Right then, the group of her tribesmen arrived. She had come ahead to clear the way, and then she conjured another sword and lashed another group of deer that came close. The clear sword was intricate and imbued with mystic property, it was unbreakable by these mysticless beasts.

If Reeva was here, he would wanted to have such a strong power. After displaying her might, the people of the tribe looked at her in admiration. They rarely saw her use her power, only aw she conjured a normal-sized sword.

They burn the right of her commanding such large swod into their brain, feeling proud to be the same tribe as her.

"Moved you idiots!"

She couldn’t help but shout, the opening would be wasted if her tribesman just stopped and marveled at the powers. Although it felt good, this was not the time to do so.

Hilda and Theia were among that crowd, they quickly traveled along them to reach outside of the village. Egul appeared in the blink of an eye to drop someone off before disappearing again.

He was there to retrieve any person who might be left behind and he found one or two people. After another five rounds, Egul finally called it off and left the other lives that survived in the village up to fate.

"Village chief why did we have to go out here, wouldn’t the position in the village be beneficial?"

Someone finally voiced their concern after the initial hype died down. They weren’t afraid to ask questions because their trib leader didn’t punish them. The female village leader looked at Egul who turned at her and nodded.

"We haven’t confirmed it yet but these guys are a bit dump, they’re likely ordered around by something to come here. If we evacuate the place, they would simply have no target anymore."

The people nodded in understanding. Some of them had encountered or even fought with the animal and they noticed that the animal had been several times dumper than their normal counterpart.

How could such a dumb creature organize a full-on assault on their village? The answer was that something was controlling them and that something needed time to change the command.

The villagers looked around, aside from the ones that saw them, most of the creatures were still attacking the village that only had no people left. It’s a good sign that their leader was right.

"Then where should we set up camp?"

"Northward" The beast clearly came from the southern land, they just needed to move far away from it.
