Extra's Perfect Ending-Chapter 301: Attacked
The horses travel through the mountain and arrive at the cave entrance.
"Here!"
"Here?"
Kanku nodded and pointed inside the cave, this was the shortcut he was talking about. Hearing the outer Kanku said.
"I have been here before!! There’s a path to the other side for the carvers that was much faster than walking around...."
Oven looked back at the kid on his horse, his eyes filled with doubt. There must be a twist in this path since there’s not much information about it. Although the empire couldn’t invade deep in here, they still had information on the biggest mountain in the north and properly in the world.
As a knight who had served the kingdom before, he knew some surface information about the Camel Peaks, and he doubted that the empire wouldn’t know about such a convenient way to travel through the Camel Peaks.... at least that was what he thought.

"But?"
"...." Kanku laughed dryly, he couldn’t really hide anything here. "There’s a rumor of this cave having ice trolls."
"Trolls?"
Holen hadn’t heard that name in a while now. Trolls are what parents used to scare kids in the empire. ’A big bad trolls are gonna eat you if you wander into the forest’. However, when one grew up, they would know that the trolls were not real... or at least not anymore.
Although some evidence suggests that they were trolls in the past, most of them were just speculation at best.
"They’re real?" Jell couldn’t help but ask.
"No, they’re not" Oven firmly believed that "No one had ever seen one"
"But they’re drawing in ruins and story about them though?"
Jell said. The trolls, just like a dragon was only a figment of imagination. A 3-meter-tall moster that had a tusk growing out of its mouth and standing on twos was depicted in some ancient ruins but that’s as far as evidence goes.
"I think they were" Kanku interjected between them "TBig brothers who used this path always came up with a horror story about trolls. And it all sounded the same, a big bad monster with sharp teeth and even bigger eyes. It’s super scary."
"Sharp teeth and big eyes? That doesn’t sound like a troll. They usually have a tusk and a green body." Jell looked at Kanku again, his mind owner what the monster would look like.
"That’s why we call them ice trolls!" Kanku proudly presented this creature as he wanted to one-up the empire.
"All I’m hearing was that we shouldn’t take this path," Holen said his arms wrapped together in front of his body. He was tired of dealing with mystic creatures.
"Wait! My mother would catch up if we didn’t go through here!"
Kankau said worryingly, he would get punished if his mother caught up! The kid tried his best to make the case but, Holen and the other didn’t want to go there. The cave presented uncertainty for them and as far as they knew, the tribe wasn’t anywhere close to them.
"Let’s take the path around"
"But..." Kanku was worried about his mother catching up. He knew full well how good the hunters in his tribe were. However, when he looked at Holen it didn’t seem like he was convinced.
"We will take a long way, if the cave was as dangerous as you made it out to be then your mother wouldn’t go through there either"
"But.... huh... that made sense.."
Kanku was about to argue his point however, Holen’s answer made him think. Then he finally agreed, because in his village this was a real concern when hunting near Camel Peak. After they all agree, Holen chart the course again, this time going a bit around the mountain. It would take more time but there’s no possibility of meeting this ’ice troll’ Kanku talked about.
Their horse walked along the harder rock of the mountain. The surface before had changed for a while now. However, something was wrong with the surface of the snow. Holen noticed this a moment ago, it was subtle but as a detective, he needed to be aware of his surroundings.
"Prepared for battle! something’s coming"
Holen couldn’t see what was coming. There was no heavy snow blocking his sight, so that thing must be underground. With a bit of thinking he issued the order.
"Go back to the cave now!"
Jell and Oven didn’t mull over the order since they knew that Holen wouldn’t be joking over a potential danger. They race their house off the snow-covered surface and back to the cave where the snow couldn’t reach.
Gradually the white floor became a grey one. As they finally entered the cave, behind them, the sound grew louder and louder, now they were sure that there was something under the snow. Luckily they’re not too late. The threat didn’t reach them before the snow was cleared.
Jell passed Kanku over to Holen and controlled his horse to face whatever was hiding in the snow with Oven. Their sword held high, ready for what was about to come. Their grip on the sword tightened as the snow moved.
PCh!
The snow made a loud sound as something jumped out of it. Grey vines spat out of the white snow. Traveling at high speed in Holen direction. However before it reached Holen, it met with a sword from Jell.
The silver glean slashed through the vine with immaculate accuracy. The vines were cut before they reached Holen.
"What the hell was that!?"
They had never seen anything like this before. A plant that could attack them wasn’t in the job description when they signed up for this. However before they could lament about it, the vines continue to pour out of the snow.
"Run!"
Holen yelled out as he controlled the horse to go deeper into the cave. Jella and Oven already turning before Holen could order them. The first vines attacked them like a scout and now the main part was here.
Just from the number alone, they have chosen to run. It’s like they’re spawning from the snow itself.
