Extra's Perfect Ending-Chapter 305: Rune
Holen’s body fell down on the floor, Kanku’s little body was deceptively strong, albeit not as much as adults.
"Why the hell did you do that!?"
Holen questioned the boy however, he got the answer in the form of a hit hat flying into the room. The top hat that had accompanied him through many years finally ended by flying into the room and disappearing. Holen’s eyes widen, it was gone just like the traps on the floor.
"I just.. want to confirm something?!"
Kanku screamed out. He was the one who felt something was wrong. Though it was just a feeling, his mom often said that this kind of feeling was to be trusted. After being a shaman for so many years, his mother often told him about the mystic and spiritual.
Their tribe has a tradition of honoring the dead, often putting their skull inside family homes and taking them on a hunt once in a while. His mother also talked about the dead, the spirit realm where everything goes.
She heard from the god that there, the warrior would fight eternally to serve the hunt or be prey to it. Talking about spirituality Kanku also knew that the spirit world that his mother described had an eternally night sky, something impossible in the real world because of the sun god.
When he looked into the room, he saw it. The knight sky hung above the room.
"It’s the spirit realm!"
"What the hell as that!?"
"It’s the place where the dead go"
Kanku said excitedly. His mother could only see a glimpse of the place, but he had the chance to enter it!
"Are we about to die!?"
Jell yelled out from behind. After Holen got stopped by Kanku, he also stopped and turned to face the vines that were closing in. The traps had dealt with half of them, now leaving another half for him and Oven to deal with. He didn’t share Kanku’s discovery of the spiritual realm one bit.
Even though his life didn’t mean much, he didn’t want to die.
"Well... I don’t know!" Kanku answered honestly. Jell’s question made him think a bit. If they entered this place, there’s a possibility that they would die! However, they were also about to die by the vines.
Jell and Oven could hold off on the grey vines for a bit since they’re low in number, but that would change pretty soon if the vines were smart. And even if they could hold off for a long time, they have nowhere to go.
"Let’s go in"
"What!?"
Holen’s suggestion felt very out of place for the detective. He always took the safest option ... Oven was about to say something when Holen jumped into the room disappearing.

"What the hell is wrong with that guy!"
One moment he said that he didn’t want to lose Oven, that life is precious. But another he was just a reckless detective who took his chance on whatever random portal to a spirit realm.
"Just follow him!"
Even though they didn’t rust this portal one bit, they had no choice. They’d be fighting a losing battle against these vines. Jell gritted his teeth and pushed Kanku inside, the kid was still a little confused about what was happening so this was the only option.
Then Jell himself jump inside. Disappearing into the portal. Leaving only Oven who’s fighting off the vines. His mind was occupied with the portal and he weighed his options again. Then he remembers Holen’s words.
"Fuck"
He jumped into the room.

"Why is this place so goddamn tall"
Atahn complained after reaching the fourth ledge resting point.
"Don’t complain, that was the easy part"
Egul said looking at the people that he brought with him. Theia was the most exhausted of the people who came here. Because she’s not an adult and didn’t work out much. The last couple of days she’d been training a bit but there was not much to be gained in days of workout. At least not enough to match the years of workouts that Egul and Hilda had.
Athan was also out of breath, that’s why he’s complaining.
"There’s a harder part?"
Egul didn’t answer him directly but looked up, from their position they could see the thing above. The could that blocked the sky in the north swirled around and converged on the mountainside.
"We called it the Camel storm. We first thought it was just a collection of clouds. But it’s much more than that. Having been there myself, that was the hardest part to climb up. The wind there was no joke and the worst part of all... The top of the mountain wasn’t connected with the bottom"
"What?" Theia felt like she just got hit by lighting "What how would that work?"
"How the hell would I know? I far as I was concerned, we just needed to be at the top. After we passed the Camel storm, we would be smooth sailing"
Theia felt like it would be hard to climb that part even from the description. Seeing her face Egul only now realized that it was a mistake taking people other than Athan here with him. Hell, even he could be here by himself to make this journey better.
"Why don’t you guys wait here while we go get the thing" He offered.
Theia looked at him and thought about it. Sure she wanted to see the top but looking at the storm above she could see herself falling from such height.
"I think I should stay here"
"I’ll be with her here"
Hilda also didn’t want to be more burden for Egul. She was curious but not enough to risk her life. Falling down from here was a death sentence even with Egul’s protective shield.
"And you?" Egul turned to Athan, it was his suggestion that they bring Hilda along...
"You wouldn’t be able to get that thing out of this mountain without me so I’m coming with you.."
"What’s the condition?"
"Ancient language and stuff I could write it down if you want but you wouldn’t understand"
"try me"
Egul was pretty confident in his smartness. As one of the leaders of the tribe being able to think was the minimum requirement. Atahn rolled his eyes at Egul confident that pick up a rock nearby. Then he stabbed in on the mountain creating a white pattern of crushed rocks.
Letters began to form from his writing, but at some point, it became unreadable. Egul’s eyes widened. He saw Atahn drawing line after line, but at some point, the thing became unreadable.
"What the hell"
"Exactly my first thought when I learned that this thing exists"
"It had a meaning?" Egul could see that the letter is static but moving from time to time.
"It’s say release," Athan said "I spent ten years studying to be able to write this. I even that, I could only write one word with it that had one purpose. The ancient civilization called it runes."
"Runes?" Hilda heard of it before but she thought it was just a belief that the researcher made up to siphon funds from Antore’s house.
"Word of the ancient, able to influence the world somehow. It’s like a universal language that could let you speak with the universe. From my research, they also had a method to say such a thing but with all the user lost to time, I could do it."
"Wait then...." Egul released something after the guy said that it could influence the world.
"If I write this thing into any jail, surface lock, or anything it would just release me out of it"
Egul eyes widen, this thing was very useful... It is not extremely useful, if one were to have something like the word [Destroy] they would cause so much damage.
"Is your immorality...."
"No, that is an entirely different matter. My immortality wasn’t born of these words but something else.."
Egul heaved a sigh and was a bit disappointed at the same time. If there was a word immoral they would be able to live forever. But he gue that would be too good to be true.
"Which is?"
"I am not sure, but it has something to do with a crest. My research was up to this point. We’ll find out after I get my hand of both the Book of Earth and Book of Sky"
"Wait, this book. Does it contain that type of words?"
"...." Athan looked at all of them and answered honestly "I don’t know, I all know is that it led me to the crest."
"Then let’s din that out, ready to climb?" Egul got a bit excited after Atahn showed him something as rare as these unreadable words that could affect the world.
"Sure"
They changed the rope to only tie between Egul and Atahn. Leaving only the girls on the cliffside.
"I’ll be back as fast as I can"
"As long as you’re back" Theia and Hilda could get down on their own but the added safety of Egul was invaluable. Their best course of action now was to wait for him to come back here again.
