Chapter 40: The Primordial Demon Lieutenant

"At long last..I have found you, the Primordial Earth Essen-Beast." It’s distorted voice echoed like the rumble of thunder, instilling dread in all who hear it.

Mazmuth’s brows furrowed in anger. It was truly the worst thing that could have possibly happened.

"W-what the hell are you?" Elene built up the courage to question the demon that emerged from the crack in the sky.

"What?" It said with it’s dreaded voice, glancing to it’s side only to see four humans on the ground. "Humans?"

Almost immediately, his body was lifted from the ground, levitating high into the sky until he was meters above Mazmuth’s head. The demon found it appalling that a mere human would address it on equal footings, or heights.

It lowered it’s head down at the Soul-Hunters, and it made a shocking discovery. "None of you are on your knees."

"Primordial Demon Lieutenant Zogratis.." Mazmuth mumbled softly with a less audible tune, given his size his voice reached out to the four humans below.

"P—Primordial demon?" Xander said as he fixated his eyes on the demon.

"Are you telling me he is a demon that surpasses the ranks of other demons?" With a wavering voice, Elene couldn’t help but ask.

"That is precisely why he is called a lieutenant, he is one of the fallen who was able to survive the predatory environment of the Infernal realm placing him ranks far above that of the ordinary Soul-Beasts. He is not someone to be taken lightly, I’ll advice that you run humans, while you still can.."

Mazmuth warned, seemingly accepting his fate. He knew he had no chance against the demon, especially since he had been sealed for several years, so his power wasn’t what it used to be.

Livinus sat on the ground, terrified to his core. He wasn’t informed about this, there was no information in the database of the Soul-Association left behind by the Soul-King that said a Primordial Beast was sealed within the stone.

Perhaps such a knowledge would encourage hunters even more to seek the stone.

Right now, right then, every instinct within him told him to do one thing.

Run.

He stood to his feet, and raced as far as his legs could hold out towards the gate. His blood pumped with unimaginable adrenaline, as if this very race decided the next moment of his life.

The demon lieutenant’s eyes followed him, and for a while, he levitated silently, making no sudden moves, but it didn’t dare take it’s eyes off Livinus.

From a bird’s eye view, just as Livinus reached the entry point to the Soul-King’s domain, the lieutenant raised his arm slowly towards him, his bones crackling and popping like a stone work that crumbled after standing for thousands of years.

"I... Overrule."

Almost immediately, Livinus froze, and his eyes expanded from shock as he felt a burning sensation through every cell in his body.

"AAAAAHHHH!!"Livinus screamed at the top of his voice as his skin began to flake and drift away, breaking apart like burnt paper turning to ash. Piece by piece, it crumbled into the air, carried off by the wind, until his whole body dissolved into nothing but ashes, vanishing into the sky.

"Unacceptable." The demon’s distorted voice resounded in the air like a thunderclap, it was utter disrespect to him. Instead of praising his presence, the human chose to run.

"LIVINUS!!" Hiro exclaimed, his eyes wavering as he watched his beloved vice captain turned to ash. Livinus might have betrayed the 14 Soul-Squads, but to Hiro, he was a cherished subordinate. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"Hey, hey hey hey." Elene chuckled as she couldn’t comprehend the ability the demon just pulled. All he did was raise it’s hand, and Livinus turned to ash.

"It’s Zogratis essence, the ability to overrule any physical matter just by willing it, you can’t defeat him humans, you’ll only end up getting killed." Mazmuth said, blowing his trunk softly as he got ready to fight. He knew he had no chance to defeat the demon, but he would at least buy them time to escape and close the gate before the demon could get out.

They all grinned their teeth, overwhelmed by the feeling of being powerless. "N-no.." Xander announced with a weak voice. He rose to his feet and wiped off the helpess look which he displayed.

’This is all my fault.’ Asides the apocalypse, after finding out about the stone, part of him thought that Rai only rushed at the gate because he knew about the stone, and he refused to allow him to get any stronger.

"I’m the reason such a this happened in the first place, it’s my responsibility to send it back to where it came from." He added.

Hiro tightened his fists, and the feeling of sadness and despair as he lost a loved one momentarily washed away from him, and a smile curled up the side of his lips. He was terrified by the presence of Zogratis, but at the same time, he was also excited. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity to push past his limits.

"Your right, it is our fault the seal was broken and it is also our fault that demon found you. We are Soul-Hunters of the Soul-Hunter’s Association, we do not run away in the face of danger, we swore an oath to defend humanity with our lives on the line. And if giving you up over to him endangers us, we’ll protect you with every fibre of our being. What do you say? My fellow Soul-Hunters?" Hiro asked with a smile on his face.

With a heavy sigh, Elene smirked.

"You all are insane... let’s take him." She said.

SWOOSH!

In a split instant, the three Soul-Hunters surrounded the demon general, using their Soul-Energy to take off into the sky. Their movements were so fast that they appeared momentarily as a blur to the untrained eyes,

Xander gathered his Soul-Energy in his palms, shaping it into a glowing blue ball of flame. He pressed it tighter and tighter until it shrank, burning brighter in his hands.

"Flame Soul-Technique: Prominence Wave!" Then he thrusted his arms forward and released it, sending a powerful wave of blue flames at the demon.

"Zen Soul-Technique: Psychic Wave!" From her palms, Elene unleashed a swirling wave of energy that sent ripples through the air as it rushed at the demon.

"RAH! SQUAD 11..."Hiro spun sideways at ultra high speeds, flipping through the air at great speed. His body soon became like a spinning vortex.

"STORM BRINGER!" The results of his high velocity momentum created a mini vortex that shot right out of his body, twisting and increasing in wind speeds as it made it’s way towards the demon.

"These humans.." Mazmuth from his position watched as the three hunters developed the courage to take on a being whose strength far surpassed that of even a Primordial Essen-Beast.

"They are willing to risk their lifes to protect me?" Their actions amazed him. Before being sealed within the previous Soul-King ages ago, he never thought he’d see the day the egoistical and greed filled race of humans would fight to protect him. Naturally he viewed humans as selfish creatures who found interest in him only as a power boost.

"Are you done? You abominal creatures." As Zogratis spoke, his red eyes glowed, and all their Soul-Techniques stopped inches away from his body.

"I... Overrule." A powerful wind pressure escaped it’s body, and it instantly dispelled their whole techniques. Their eyes all widened in shock, and they were instantly blown away violently in different directions.

They crashed hard to the ground, coughing out blood from their mouths with each impact their backs made with the ground.

The demon lieutenant turned to face Elene. It sensed it before he cancelled out their techniques, Elene’s Soul-Technique might have been the weakest in terms of power amongst the three, but it was also the most deadly as it targeted the nervous system directly.

Zogratis raised it’s hand, pointing it down at Elene.

"No! Elene!" Hiro noticed what it tried to do, and attempted to rise to his feet, but the impact still reverberated through his body, and he fell right back to his knees. "Damn it!"

Taking out the medical unit, and also the hunter with the most troublesome ability was standard military tactics, and Hiro knew this all too well.

"I... Overrule."

"No! Elene!"

Elene’s eyes widened, as she felt a malicious energy racing towards her at unprecedented speeds. Takashi’s and Hiro’s eyes widened in disbelief, they were aware of the kind of damage that ability would do to her.

Just when it seemed it was over for her, all eyes glanced beyond the demon lieutenant.

"What?" Zogratis muttered softly as he felt a chilling presence behind him.

The demon turned and saw Elene being held by a tall, lean but strong man. He wore a long black hooded coat over a white shirt and black trousers.

"Good grief, just when I thought I had little time left, we’ve already gone this far? Are you alright? Elene." The man asked.

Elene’s eyes widened, and she stared at the man in disbelief. "R-Rai..."
