Chapter 132: Mother

JUN’S POV

It’s only three weeks until OUR—yes, OUR—car will be competing in the 2025 championship on the racetrack. And it’s only because of her. They say lady luck matters. In my situation, it’s the reality. What I couldn’t do in ten years, I’m able to do within six months of her coming into my life. So it’s only fair she sees the team headquarters.

She thinks Yifan is ahead and I have barely any preparations done. Well, if she hears the amount of money riding on this project, chances are she’ll freak out and fret over everything. I’ve already crossed some serious milestones: like my application was approved two years ago, and I’ve paid the one-time $200 million Concorde Agreement fee as well—the agreement that binds together the teams, the FIA, and Formula 1 (Liberty Media). Any new team, on top of the initial application fee of $300k, also has to make a $200 million payment, commonly known as the anti-dilution fee, a hefty price to ensure a new team doesn’t dilute the revenue pool.

Formula 1 is outrageously expensive sport, and I’m already in the deep end, spending close to $2 billion on thousands of expenses, with zero revenue till date. Yeah, that’s why it’s a billionaire’s sport—it can make them super rich or sink their boat completely.

The worst part? All of this is coming out of my own pocket, not the company accounts. So, yeah, it pinches. Really bad.

Now that the patent is already secured, I couldn’t care less about Yifan. It’s game on. My carefully recruited team of 200 elite members from around the globe, forming Team FJ, my private racing team, is ready to take on 24 Grand Prix circuits across the world in 2025. My headquarters, located on the outskirts of the city, is complete with state-of-the-art facilities, buzzing with the best minds in motorsport.

I’ve put everything I’ve got into this. Everything. This is my shot, and I won’t let anyone stand in my way, especially not Yifan. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

There’s something electric about this moment—knowing all the pieces are coming together. And with her by my side I’m feeling excited to embark on this journey.

"Sir, we’re ready to land."

"You might want to hold on me tight. Landings are where most accidents happen. One wrong gust of wind, and—oops, there we go." 😈

Yiren hugs me like her life depends on it. Completely pressing herself.

God is awesome.

I love his little games.

Like now, when he made our chopper tilt a little too much for her liking.

I introduce her to my team, which will also be what she’ll see on the track. Her eyes are as wide as saucers, taking in every single detail of this place. Architect. One day, I’ll get her to design this place entirely, however she likes. Make it her vision. It’ll be perfect.

"Boss, is this the car you’ll be using on the track?" Ireine asks from my side, marvelling at the F1 car my engineers are working on in the main room. "Can I take a few pictures?"

I nod. Yiren gives me a look, a little confused, but I squeeze her hand—just a subtle hint for her to stay quiet.

"Three weeks from now, we’ll be launching the team during this year’s Grand Prix championship first race," I tell Ireine, "make arrangements for the campaign and marketing. And Chen, you’re in charge of the security throughout the championship. Not just team and car transfers, but my family too, since they’ll be watching the races. No mistakes."

"Yes, boss."

"Do I need to prepare for a pre-launch party?" Ireine asks.

"No. They will see it directly on the track, competing. Once you’re done, you both can take the chopper back. I’m staying."

They nod, and as they walk away, I guide Yiren to my office, a room that offers a panoramic view of the entire facility. The floor-to-ceiling windows provide the perfect view of the car in the heart of the building.

She stands still, eyes locked on it. "That’s not the car you were working on."

"Nope." I come to stand next to her, "That’s not the car WE were working on."

She rolls her eyes at my correction, "But you asked Ireine and Chen to prepare the marketing campaign and security for this one."

I watch as my engineers continue their work on a fake car, the design that Yifan stole through Bruce. It’s a mock-up for Yifan to let him think it’s the real deal, while the actual one is far beyond anything they can imagine.

"You know, the famous Hope diamond, which was to be transported from Africa to England, was publicized as going through high security and a secret sea route, but in reality, it was posted by an ordinary mail hardly worth 2$."

She looks at me, brow furrowed in confusion.

I smile. "It’s all smoke and mirrors, bunny. The world doesn’t need to know everything, especially not the people who think they can take what’s mine."

"You’re a force to be reckoned with," she says after a moment, a teasing smile lifting the corner of her mouth.

I lean in, my face inches from hers. "You haven’t seen anything yet."

"But your engineers need to know about the real car in order to help on track."

"Who said they don’t know?" I smile, the corners of my mouth turning up just a little.

She narrows her eyes, her gaze flicking from me to Ireine and Chen, her mind connecting the dots. It’s that moment—the realization dawning on her. Smart girl.

"Who among them?"

I lean back against the glass, enjoying the moment, letting her figure it out. "Let me give you some hints... Who was aware of the sim I issued from the company under the name Bruce? Who is always aware of my ongoing contracts and deals? Who has direct access to the purchases I made from my personal accounts? Who is aware of my schedule and travel details? And who is close enough to me to know what’s going on in my personal life? Like you. And send a fake Bruce after you to get the designs?"

"Chen is your chief of security, so his authority is limited to your safety. So it’s Ireine."

I nod. "Bruce was her man. She’s been working with Yifan for god knows how long, feeding him all the information that’s supposed to be kept confidential."

She stands frozen for a moment, her eyes flicking at Ireine as if seeing jer through an entirely different lens now.

"I wonder why? Does she have a connection with Yifan?"

"She’s his mother."
