Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband-Chapter 224: Nope
Chapter 224: Nope
Never in her life had she imagined that a man could look sexy simply by walking. It wasn’t the conventional kind of attractiveness—sharp features or a well-tailored suit—though Aiden possessed those in spades. No, this was something different, something raw. It was the way he moved, a quiet, assured strength in every stride, as though the world around him bent just a little to accommodate his presence. It was the kind of ’controlled power’ that didn’t need to announce itself—it simply was.
Serena had seen her fair share of good-looking men. Aiden, of course, stood out from the crowd with his classically handsome face and piercing gaze, but this? This was something else entirely. As she watched him stroll through the expansive hotel lobby toward the conference room, she could feel his pull even from here on the first floor.
Even from this distance she could feel his magnetic pull and the way her heart went ’bdump bdump’ at the sight of him. And then, as if sensing her scrutiny, he turned his head and looked up, straight at her. She almost hid behind the balustrade as the sudden glance. But her brain seemed to stop her at the right moment. Why would she need to hide from him? She told herself she was being ridiculous—this was just Aiden, after all.
And so, when he raised an eyebrow at her, she responded with a careless shrug. But then, he had the audacity to wink at her! ’Wink!’ This time her heart was almost doing a somersault. At this rate, she was going to get a heart disease for sure.
But then, as if the universe had decided to throw her composure straight into the fire, Aiden climbed the stairs, his gaze locked on her like a heat-seeking missile. She wondered if he’d ever been ’just’ anything.
Without preamble, he caught her by the waist and dipped his head the moment he reached her, capturing her lips in a quick but deliberate kiss that sent a jolt of warmth through her. Then, as though it was the most natural thing in the world, he stepped back with a roguish grin that always made her blink with its appearance.
"Hello there," he said, his voice low and smooth, laced with a touch of amusement. "This is a nice surprise."
Serena arched an eyebrow, determined to keep her cool despite the butterflies that seemed to have taken up permanent residence in her stomach. "You coming over to steal a kiss from me is hardly ever a surprise, Hawk. You do that at every turn." she shot back teasingly.
Her words earned her a deep laugh from him and just like that, she was done for. Shi*! You were in deep shi* when even his laugh made your knees feel like jelly.
Almost as if he wanted to prove her point, Aiden leaned in again, deliberately slow, and stole another kiss before she could react. He pulled back just enough to meet her gaze, his eyes dancing with mischief. "So," he began casually, as though they weren’t standing in the middle of a hotel, as though her pulse wasn’t racing, "I heard you met someone over coffee today. What do you think?"
Serena exhaled slowly, schooled her features into what she hoped was a composed expression. She gave him a thin smile and a pointed look. "I think she’s an amazing woman," she replied, "And you are a dirtbag for not mentioning that she’s married to your best friend."
Aiden grinned, utterly unapologetic, "Oh, please," he said, waving a dismissive hand. "Why would I do that? You looked so jealous, trying so hard to hide it. I liked watching that."
Serena’s eyes narrowed and she crossed her arms. "You have weird tastes, Hawk."
"Nope," he countered smoothly, leaning slightly closer as if to emphasize his point. "I don’t think so. I have amazing taste. Case in point—you. Aren’t you to my taste, Dawn?"
"Ha! Smooth with words—that’s what you are." Serena shook her head, trying to hide the smile tugging at her lips. "Go now, or you’re going to be late for your meeting."
Aiden raised his hands in mock surrender, his grin never wavering. "Okay, okay, I’m going. No need to push me away so fast. And I now know I need to have a word with someone about leaking my itinerary to my wife. By the way, why are you here? Missed me too much?"
The first question caught Serena off guard, and a flicker of unease passed through her. Her smile faltered for the briefest second before she handled herself," Ha! Why would I miss you?"
He narrowed his eyes, he knew she’s sidestepped the question but before he could question her, which would cause her to lie, Assistant An interrupted them," Sir, we need to go. You’re already running late."
Aiden sighed dramatically, glancing back at Serena with a lopsided smile. "Duty calls, I guess. But let’s go back together later, okay? Call me when you’re done here."
Serena nodded quickly, grateful for the interruption, and gave him a small wave. "Sure. I’ll see you later. Now, go before Assistant An drags you there."
With one last wink, Aiden turned and strode away.
She let herself relax. It wasn’t that she wanted to hide the truth from him or lie to him. The truth was that she did not wish to spoil his mood. And if he knew she was going to meet Sidney, that is exactly what would happen. For now, she just wanted these things to go smoothly and nothing to affect them. Later, much later, she would tell him everything.
And then, she would propose to him. Talking to Samantha over coffee earlier had been more than just enlightening—it had sparked an idea, one she hadn’t been able to shake since. The thought of proposing to Aiden was both thrilling and nerve-wracking, but for the first time in a long while, she felt sure of something. She was going to confess her love to him. She was going to ask him to marry her.
