Chapter 229: You’re crazy

I’m telling you, do I look like someone who goes jewelry shopping?" Nathan asked, spreading his hands wide and then pointing at his face, as if to make his point clearer. His expression was a mix of exasperation and disbelief.

"Obviously not," Serena shot back teasingly. She gave him a once-over and smirked. "Judging by the way you dress; I’d say you don’t go shopping at all. Did you steal clothes?"

Nathan rolled his eyes and shook his head, letting out a dramatic sigh. "Then why, exactly, have you dragged me away from my work in the middle of the week for this if ou think I wore stolen clothes? And that too for Ring shopping, of all things. Shouldn’t Aiden be the one taking you for this?"

Nathan blinked, momentarily thrown off balance. His mouth opened, then closed, as though searching for the right words. Finally, he managed to splutter, "You’re... proposing to him?"

"Yes, Nathan," Serena confirmed, her lips curling into an amused grin as she watched the bewilderment unfold across his face.

Nathan threw his hands into the air dramatically. "My gosh! You two are absolutely nuts! First, you get married out of nowhere. Then you vanish with another man, divorce my brother, and now you’re back together and planning to propose? Are you kidding me right now?"

Serena chuckled and gave him a playful pat on the back. "Yep. Well done, Nathan. Smart of you to sum all of that up so neatly."

He groaned, shaking his head in disbelief. "Even so, you could’ve brought Ella with you for this. She loves shopping, and she’s free today. Why drag me into this mess?"

"Because," Serena said firmly, "I’m not talking to Ella. Not after what she did."

Nathan raised an eyebrow, clearly not surprised. "Right. Well, I guess selling you out doesn’t exactly scream loyalty. But seriously, why me? I was working, you know."

Serena smirked, tilting her head. "Oh, please. You weren’t working—you were playing games online."

Nathan’s eyes widened indignantly. "I was testing online games! That’s my job now, thank you very much. Ever since my dear brother decided to cut my allowance, all thanks to a certain someone."

"And you should be thanking that ’certain someone,’ a.k.a. me," Serena shot back with a pointed look. "Because if it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t have discovered your hidden talent for finding bugs in games and fixing code. Honestly, Nathan, I practically gave you a career."

Nathan sighed and rolled his eyes and mocked her," Yap yap yap."

Laughing, Serena hit his arm and poked at him," Nathan Hawk. Don’t think I won’t hit you just because you agreed to help me!"

Nathan groaned dramatically, rubbing his arm where Serena had smacked him. "Fine, fine. Let’s just get this over with before I regret even more for agreeing to this. Where do we even start?"

Hurriedly, he moved towards one of the many sparkling cases and squinted at the rings, his face scrunched in concentration. "They all look the same to me," he muttered after a moment. "Shiny and circular. You might as well be picking out a donut."

Nathan pointed to a ring and asked, "How about this one?" he asked with a smirk.

Serena looked at the ring with a diamond so massive and dazzling it seemed to have its own spotlight and rolled her eyes, " I am trying to propose marriage, okay? Not try to blind him. Let’s try something that doesn’t require sunglasses to look at, shall we?"

Having spotted his mark, the salesman immediately stepped forward and brought out a tray with many simple and elegant bands," Perhaps, you might try something from these? These are timeless and classic."

Nathan was about to make a remark when Serena shushed him, her gaze locked on a platinum band with a small, perfectly cut diamond nestled in its center. The band was textured with a subtle, wavy pattern, giving it a unique yet timeless look. She could already imagine what the band would look like on his long fingers. She would never confess this in front of anyone, but there was something nfinitely sexy about a man’s hand wearing a wedding band.

And if it was her man wearing her band? It would be like icing on a cake. For a moment, Serena let herself feel as if she were a cavewoman, wanting to scream her possessiveness but she shook aside the feeling at pointed at it," Give me that one. It’s simple, but... there’s something about it."

The salesman’s face lit up. "An excellent choice. It’s part of our ’Eternal Collection.’ The design symbolizes enduring love—strong, pure, and unbreakable."

Nathan made a gagging noise behind her. "Wow, that’s cheesy. Do they charge extra for the sentimental speech, or is it included in the price? Also, isn’t this too simple? I mean you’re planning an elaborate proposal and all...Isn’t it too simple?Try something else."

But Serena shook her head and held the ring carefully, "Nope. This is the one. And who even asked you for your opinion?."

Nathan rolled his eyes, wanting to point out that she had been the one to drag him here. But instead he simply pretended to wipe his sweat and muttered, "Finally. Now can we get out of here before I lose all feeling in my legs from standing around?"

Serena chuckled and handed the ring to the salesman for packaging. "You’re such a drama queen, Nathan. But thanks for coming with me."

Nathan straightened up and gave her a mock bow. "Anything for my dear ex-sister-in-law-currently-almost fiancée-to-my-brother. You’re welcome. Let’s leave soon now..."

Before the salesman could package the ring, he returned with a polite yet apologetic expression, holding the small tray delicately. Clearing his throat, he said, "Ma’am, I deeply apologize for the inconvenience, but this particular ring has already been purchased by another customer. They selected it from our catalog and finalized the transaction. If I may, I’d be happy to show you some other options from our collection."

Serena’s brow furrowed, "What do you mean it’s already been bought by someone else? There’s no one else here. Who could’ve possibly bought it?"

The salesman shifted uncomfortably under her questioning gaze, offering a placating smile. "I understand how confusing this must seem," he began, "The customer in question just finalized their purchase. It’s not uncommon for clients to reserve pieces directly from our catalog without viewing them in person. Unfortunately, the ring you chose, the other customer has taken a liking to.

Serena narrowed her eyes. "Is there any way to confirm with the buyer? Maybe they’d be willing to consider another piece instead?"

The salesman hesitated, clearly uncomfortable. "I’m afraid that wouldn’t be possible, ma’am. The sale is already finalized. However, I assure you we have other exquisite designs that might catch your eye—"

"I am the buyer. Would you like to buy it from me?"
