Chapter 230: The Buyer

"I am the buyer. Would you like to purchase it from me?"

Serena turned to see a woman approaching, her smile polite yet unsettling. Despite the pleasant expression, something about her warned Serena to stay on guard. The woman’s smile was almost pleasant, but there was an undercurrent in her expression that set Serena on edge. Her instincts seemed to be screaming that this woman had come looking for a fight. And she did not understand why. She was sure that they had never met in the past.

"If you’re willing to sell it, I’d like to buy it," Serena replied evenly, refusing to let the unease show on her face since she could not find a reason for this unease.

The woman’s smile widened as if Serena’s words had amused her. Without breaking eye contact, she reached for the ring from the shop assistant, her manicured fingers wrapping around the small object with an air of entitlement. She lifted the ring toward the light, her eyes narrowing slightly as she appeared to inspect it.

And then, suddenly, with a swift flick of her wrist, the woman tossed the ring onto the carpeted floor, the small piece of jewelry bouncing once before coming to rest at Serena’s feet.

"On a closer look," the woman said, her voice dripping with casual disdain, "I’ve realized it’s not as beautiful as I first thought. Consider it a gift, miss—a token of charity. I don’t keep things I don’t like, let alone bother to sell them."

The words were delivered with a cutting finality, each syllable designed to provoke. Serena’s eyes flicked to the ring on the floor before returning to the woman, her own smile cool and unwavering.

Serena’s eyes lingered on the ring for a moment before she crouched down gracefully, picking it up as though it hadn’t just been discarded with contempt. Straightening, she held the ring delicately between her fingers, examining it under the light, the same way the woman had.

"I see," Serena said coldly. "You must have exceptionally bad taste to find this unworthy. But," she added with a faint, knowing smile, "it takes a keen eye to appreciate subtle beauty. Thankfully, I’m not one to reject value because someone else failed to see it. "True beauty requires someone with the confidence to cherish it. And perhaps someone who knows how to handle its worth without being intimidated by it."

With that, she handed the ring to the hovering assistant. "You heard the woman. She doesn’t want it anymore. And since she has not yet paid for it, I think I’ll pay for it. So make sure to charge it to my account." Serena then turned the woman and gave her a thin smile," You can only give away something you own. You didn’t even own the ring yet and you thought you could give it away? Tsk tsk."

The woman’s expression froze, her poise slipping as her cheeks reddened. Before she could muster a reply, Serena gave her a polite nod, grabbed Nathan by the arm and quickly marched towards the payment counter.

"Wow. What the heck was that?" Nathan muttered as soon as they stepped out of the showroom, his voice tinged with disbelief and amusement. "It looked like you were ready to get into a catfight back there—claws out, sharp and gleaming. I almost thought you were going to pounce."

Serena shrugged casually, a small laugh escaping her as she threw him a sidelong glance, "Get that hopeful look off your face, Nathan Hawk," she said, "Even if I did decide to fight with someone, violence would always be my last resort."

Nathan raised an eyebrow, his lips twitching into a sly grin. "Well, a guy can fantasize, can’t he?" he replied cheekily," Women pouncing at each other, tearing clothes...

Serena shot him an odd look, her brow arching in mock disbelief. "Fantasize?" she echoed,"Nathan, you might want to rethink the kind of daydreams you indulge in. You’ve got a vivid imagination, I’ll give you that much. Now add this to your imagination, how do you think Aiden will react to your fantasy of someone tearing at my clothes?"

Nathan coughed and shook his head immediately," Hey! I was definitely not fantasizing about you! Yuck! Shut up! It was a general male thing, okay!" Serena simply laughed and walked away with Nathan following her, "But you’ve got to admit, you enjoyed putting that woman in her place."

Serena gave him a slow, enigmatic smile as she continued to walk, content with her purchase. "I don’t know what you’re talking about. I was just stating facts. If she felt put in her place, that’s not my fault."

Inside the showroom, Kimberlee stomped her foot in barely contained fury. How dare she? Did that insufferable woman really believe she could march in, propose to Aiden, and slip her ring onto his finger? The sheer audacity of it all made Kimberlee’s blood boil. What a fool Serena Dawn must be to think she understood Aiden. That woman clearly didn’t have a clue.

Aiden Hawk was a man who lived for the chase, who thrived on the thrill of pursuit. Proposing to him? That was laughable. He enjoyed choosing his conquests, not having them handed to him. Kimberlee’s lips curled into a bitter smile as she recalled how he had chosen her—the quiet, demure Kimberlee who hadn’t so much as batted an eyelash at his charm when he first approached her. So many girls had thrown themselves at him, desperate for his attention, yet he had picked her. Her.

But even so, that woman’s disdainful smirk and cutting words gnawed at Kimberlee. How dare Serena look down on her like that, treating her with such contempt? The scene replayed in her mind, each detail making her angrier. Her hand tightened around the bank card the shop assistant had returned to her, uncharged, as if to mock her further.

No, Kimberlee thought darkly, Serena Dawn wasn’t going to get away with this. She would make sure that woman paid dearly for her insolence. freewёbnoνel.com

Kimberlee straightened her back. So what if she didn’t own the ring? Rings could be bought, sold, or discarded. It didn’t matter. What mattered was Aiden. And Aiden belonged to her.

Storming out of the showroom, Kimberlee fished her sleek cell phone from her purse, her fingers trembling as she scrolled through her contacts and then jabbed at the screen.

When the call connected, she didn’t waste time with pleasantries. "I want to meet Aiden today," she snapped, "Arrange it. Now."
