Chapter 200: CHOI YUJIN’S MENTAL TURMOIL

AFTER Lily finished her closing statement, the filming was finally over. She walked around the room and congratulated the contestants who had made it to the next round. She also took time to comfort some of the eliminated contestants who had cried. And there were many who did just that.

The hall filled with the sound of quiet sobs. Some contestants sat in their chairs with their shoulders slumped, staring at the floor. Others hugged each other tightly, their faces buried in a friend’s shoulder. A few stood by themselves, using the backs of their hands to quickly wipe tears from their eyes as they tried to look brave. The air felt heavy with the disappointment of dreams that had just ended.

Seeing all this, Lily felt a bit awkward. She knew this was a normal part of the program, but being surrounded by so many crying contestants was still an uncomfortable feeling. She couldn’t possibly comfort every single person. And no matter what words she used, the reality of them being eliminated would not change. She remembered there would be two more rounds of eliminations just like this before the finale. The thought made her realize she needed to get used to this sight.

Lily let out a long, slow sigh. She then decided it was time for her to leave.

It’s probably a good thing that she left at that exact moment. Because right after she was gone, a commotion started. And it all began with Choi Yujin.

Choi Yujin had been crying since even before the top ten was announced, because deep down, he knew his name wouldn’t be called. But he had consoled himself with the thought that Seojun would be eliminated as well. He believed the two of them could then resume the connection they had. He even thought it might be better, because that attention seeker Kang Haneul wouldn’t be around to tempt Seojun anymore.

But then Seojun was called. He didn’t just ranked, he took the top spot! It was so... unfair!

How could he possibly become rank one? Based on talent alone, weren’t they just the same? Their team had done so badly in the vocal mission, which was obvious proof. And yet, Seojun became rank one while Yujin was eliminated.

His tears stopped instantly when he heard Seojun’s name. The shock was so strong it completely pushed aside his disappointment. He just sat there, not moving. He could not process what’s happening. The surrounding noise sounded distant and muffled as his mind struggled to accept the situation.

Yujin looked over to where Seojun was standing. The other contestant was completely surrounded by people hugging him and saying congratulations. He looked so happy and bright. And in that moment, Yujin finally understood. Why wouldn’t Seojun be rank one? He’s a dominant Alpha, he’s arguably the most handsome contestant here, and even if his talent wasn’t the best, he had more than enough charm to make up for it. It’s no wonder the public voted for him.

It was a different story for Yujin. His own talent was just mediocre, and his looks were only what you would call standard. His single advantage was being a dominant Omega. But that was useless when it did not turn into any real charm for people to see. He could not just release his pheromones on a broadcast to make people notice him.

Somehow, he felt heartbroken by the thought.

"Yujin-ah."

Yujin looked to his side and saw Mirae standing there. The other opened his arms and gave him a quick, tight hug.

"I will miss you, Yujin-ah," Mirae said.

Yujin bit his lower lip. Mirae was the only one who had approached him to offer any comfort. Even his own teammates had ignored him, even though only two of them had avoided being eliminated. He almost started crying again. If not for the heavy disappointment that filled him, he might have done just that.

"Th-thank you," he managed to say.

Mirae looked at Yujin’s tear-stricken face. The truth was, he wouldn’t miss him at all. Yujin was just another gullible person in this place, someone Mirae could use to make himself seem like a kind and caring person. He honestly didn’t even want to go near Yujin because the other seemed very emotionally unstable right now. But he had an image to maintain, so he pushed down his own reluctance and went over to him.

He almost rolled his eyes when he saw Yujin glance over to where Han Seojun was standing. It was especially irritating to see the clear look of ’yearning’ on his face. Mirae could admit that Han Seojun was handsome. But that was all he was. The fact that he got first rank just showed how shallow people could be. In the idol world, the only things that seemed to matter were a person’s visual appeal and how they present themselves. Even with little talent, if someone was excellent in those two areas, they could still succeed.

Still, it’s annoying how someone as untalented as Han Seojun could rise to the top so easily. If it had been Jung Taeyang, Mirae would not have felt this level of annoyance. At least Taeyang deserved his high rank. But Han Seojun? Ha!

He noticed how Han Seojun kept glancing in one particular direction over and over. He followed the other’s line of sight and saw it led to Kang Haneul. When Kang Haneul turned and noticed Han Seojun looking, he gave him a smile. Han Seojun seemed to light up as if he had been bathed in a warm light, just because Kang Haneul had smiled at him.

Mirae almost let a disgusted expression show on his face when he saw this. He had already noticed that Han Seojun might like Kang Haneul, but to see the other being so obvious about it was nauseating.

He looked at Yujin, who was still staring at Han Seojun, and a sudden idea popped into his head. He smiled to himself. Maybe Yujin could be useful one more time. He’s eliminated, anyway. So, whatever he would do from now on wouldn’t matter.
