Fated: The Alpha's Unwanted Luna-Chapter 154: Taking care of her_Part 1
Viola wanted so much not to think about what Evan had said, but her insecure heart and mind kept wandering back to it even after an hour had passed since she had ended the call with him. She just couldn’t help it, because no matter how much she wanted to deny it and refuse to believe it, she knew deep down that she was a very hard person to like and to keep close.
Though there was no real romantic relationship between she and Sebastian, or so she always tried to tell herself, she was certain that one day he would grow tired of her, and rather than discard her the way Evan had done, he might simply kill her quickly the way he had killed his other Lunas.
That thought sent another sharp, pin-like pain straight to her heart that traveled all the way down and made her feel even more sick and nauseous than before.
Unable to hold the nausea back any longer, she clapped a hand over her mouth and rushed to her bathroom, dropping to her knees with her head bowed over the toilet, retching and throwing up her guts. Unfortunately there was little to nothing left in her stomach to bring up but water.
Viola’s grip around the toilet seat turned so fierce that her knuckles went white, and the more her mind circled back to the words, that she would be discarded again someday, the tighter and tighter her grip became, until a cracking sound began to emit from beneath her palm.
Then a chunk of the ceramic broke away, jerking her hand downward and causing her to yank back and stare wide-eyed at the broken piece lying on the floor.
Flushed and still sick, Viola couldn’t believe her grip had been strong enough to break the side of a toilet seat, and she stared down at her own hand in confused disbelief. Had she just broken it? Was the seat that fragile?
She wasn’t strong enough by werewolf standards to shatter hard ceramic with her bare hand, and yet looking down at the broken piece on the floor, it was undeniable that she really had broken it. Her stomach turned over again, the sickness washing back over her in another wave.
This time she tried as hard as she could, but nothing came up. Spent and utterly exhausted, Viola sat back on the floor and leaned her back against the cool surface of the shower glass wall, closing her eyes for a moment and drawing in slow, steadying breaths to calm her nerves.
What was wrong with her? Why was she letting Evan’s words get to her so deeply sending fear crushing down on her about a future she didn’t even know yet? Hadn’t she accepted any future no matter how bad it was when she decided to fight for the Luna position?
She wanted to feel some sense of satisfaction that she had at least put her adoptive parents in their place, but no such feeling came. Instead she felt deeply and uncomfortably vulnerable, and staring at the broken toilet seat on the floor, another shiver ran down her spine. Just what kind of power had caused her to break it? Was there truly a chance that she wasn’t entirely wolfless after all?
Because if she were completely wolfless, she should not have possessed the strength it took to break something as hard as a ceramic toilet seat with nothing but a grip, and that thought made her swallow hard and sit with a deep, unsettling uncertainty.
Realizing that she was allowing herself to spiral into fear and despair over someone as insignificant as Evan, Viola pushed herself up off the floor through her cramping stomach and decided to shower and change for the night. Because even with the reality that she wasn’t getting married for love, just like every other woman, Viola still wished to look presentable, and she needed to calm her mind and rest her body for the wedding that was now only two days away.
Whatever questions were beginning to arise about her wolf would find their answers when she found her twin, and until then she would try to focus on what else she could do in the meantime. She took off her clothes and stepped under a hot shower, and when she was done, she stepped through the adjoining door of the closet that connected to the bathroom.
Viola’s limbs were literally quivering as she stood to dress, and she had to take small pauses between every action while selecting her pajamas. She hated this time of the month more than almost anything else, and if only she were like other she-wolves, she wouldn’t be suffering through it this severely, not to mention the blows she had received earlier in the day that had added layers of aching pain and discomfort on top of it all.
She didn’t bother to carefully pick through her many sets of pajamas and simply grabbed a short ribbed camisole set. Even after she finished dressing, Viola didn’t move from the soft, plush stool she had sat down on, she stayed bent over with both hands clutching her abdomen, fighting the urge to moan from the discomfort.
She had no idea how long she sat there, but when she finally found the energy to stand, she was a little dizzy and found herself dragging her bare feet out of the walk-in closet. She planned to go and lie on her stomach and shut out every ounce of emotion inside herself until sleep took her. However, the moment she stepped into her bedroom, she stopped short in her tracks at the sight that greeted her.
Right there on her bed was the very last person she had expected to find, sitting with his back resting casually against the headboard, his coat discarded on the couch nearby and his shoes placed neatly at the side of the bed.
His shirt was unbuttoned at the throat all the way down to his chest, revealing that ominous, tantalizing tattooed chest beneath it. In his hand was a glass tablet he had been scrolling through with quiet concentration, but he stopped and looked up in her direction the moment she walked in. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Viola’s heart skipped a beat and her throat went slightly dry as his eyes roamed over her slowly from head to toe, and she belatedly realized what she was wearing.
It wasn’t something she had intended to wear in his presence, but how was she supposed to have known he would be here, sitting so casually on her bed and looking impossibly handsome and entirely at home with himself, as though they hadn’t parted ways just hours ago shouting at each other?
