Final Life Online-Chapter 265: Star Island XI
Puddle floated near one crystal. "Crystals tired. Need help."
Rhys thought for a moment. "Everyone take one pedestal. But don’t activate them yet."
They spread out, one person per pedestal. Puddle stayed in the center, watching all of them.
Rhys raised his hand. "On my signal, we channel energy slowly. Same pace. No one pushes harder than the others."
Caria nodded. "Understood."
Sophia closed her eyes. "I’ll match my output to yours."
Aria watched the crystals carefully. "I’ll call out if one reacts too fast."
Lyra steadied herself. "I’ll stop if something feels wrong."
Rhys took a breath. "Now."
They placed their hands on the crystals.
At first, nothing happened.
Then faint light appeared inside each crystal. The cracks began to glow.
Suddenly, Caria’s crystal flared brighter than the rest.
Aria reacted instantly. "Caria, slow down."
Caria pulled back slightly. The light balanced again.
The room hummed, low and steady.
Puddle floated higher, spreading its glow evenly. "Together. Same speed."
The crystals brightened in unison. The cracks sealed one by one.
When the last crack closed, all five crystals shone with a soft, stable light.
The room shook once.
A door opened on the far side.
Sophia exhaled. "That would have failed if even one of us rushed."
Rhys nodded. "This temple keeps testing the same rule in different ways."
Caria looked ahead. "Work together, or don’t pass."
Puddle spun once, proud. "Friends pass!"
They moved toward the open door, knowing the deeper they went, the stricter the temple would become—and that from now on, even small mistakes could cost them everything.
They walked through the open door. The light behind them faded, and the door closed quietly.
This room was larger and colder. The floor was smooth stone, and the ceiling was high. In the center stood a round platform with a shallow bowl carved into it.
Inside the bowl was clear water. It did not move.
Sophia stepped closer. "This water is magic. Very old magic."
Aria studied the markings around the bowl. "It reacts to intent again. But this time, it’s stricter."
Lyra crossed her arms. "So what’s the rule here?"
Before anyone could answer, the water began to ripple.
Images formed on its surface. They showed the team walking, fighting, and solving trials—but each image changed.
In one, Caria rushed ahead alone and was pushed back.
In another, Sophia used too much magic and caused damage.
In another, Lyra moved too far from the group and disappeared into shadow.
Rhys frowned. "It’s showing mistakes. Things we could do wrong."
The final image showed Rhys standing still while the others struggled.
Puddle floated closer to the bowl. "Water shows future... if friends fail."
The water went still again.
A voice spoke, calm and heavy.
"Leadership is balance. Power is shared. Failure comes from pride or fear."
The bowl began to glow softly.
Aria spoke quietly. "This trial isn’t physical. It’s about decisions."
Rhys nodded. "Then we answer the same way we’ve answered everything else."
He stepped forward and placed his hand above the bowl, not touching the water.
"I lead, but I don’t act alone. I listen. I trust them."
One by one, the others joined him, placing their hands close to the bowl.
Caria spoke next. "I protect, but I don’t rush."
Sophia followed. "I support, but I don’t overpower."
Lyra added, "I watch the edges, but I don’t leave the group."
Aria finished, "I think ahead, but I don’t ignore the present."
Puddle hovered above all their hands. "Puddle help everyone."
The water glowed brighter.
The bowl cracked, then sank into the floor.
A hidden passage opened below it.
The voice spoke one last time.
"Lesson accepted. Proceed."
Rhys looked at the opening. "This is it. Deeper than before."
Caria tightened her grip. "Whatever’s down there won’t be testing basics anymore."
Puddle floated close. "Friends ready."
They stepped into the passage together, knowing the temple was no longer teaching them how to work as a team—
It was now checking if they could survive as one.
The passage sloped downward. The walls were narrow, and the air felt heavy. The light from above faded as they moved deeper.
Rhys walked in front, slow and careful. "Watch your steps. This place won’t warn us anymore."
After a short walk, the tunnel opened into a large underground chamber.
This room was different from the others.
There were no symbols, no puzzles, and no glowing paths.
Only stone.
At the center stood a massive figure, far larger than any guardian before. It was not moving, but its presence filled the room.
Puddle stopped. "Very strong... old."
Sophia swallowed. "This is not a test. This is the keeper."
The ground shook once.
The figure opened its eyes.
They burned with steady white light.
A deep voice filled the chamber.
"You have learned. You have adapted. Now you must endure."
The guardian stepped forward.
No magic flared. No traps activated.
Just raw strength and pressure.
Caria moved instantly to the front. "Formation!"
Lyra took the left. Sophia and Aria stayed behind. Rhys stayed in the center.
Puddle hovered above them, light focused and calm.
The guardian swung a heavy arm.
Caria blocked, but was pushed back several steps.
"Too strong," she said through clenched teeth.
Rhys stayed calm. "Don’t fight it head-on. Control space."
Sophia reinforced the ground under Caria’s feet.
Lyra struck at the joints, not to damage, but to slow.
Aria called out timing. "It moves every three seconds. Step after the second."
They adjusted together.
The guardian attacked again.
This time, they moved as one.
The blow missed.
The guardian paused.
It adjusted.
"So do we," Rhys said.
The fight continued, slow and heavy. No one rushed. No one acted alone.
Every step, block, and spell was timed.
Minutes passed.
The guardian slowed.
Its movements became less aggressive.
Finally, it stopped.
The light in its eyes dimmed.
"You endure together," the voice said.
The guardian stepped back and knelt.
A final door opened behind it.
Rhys lowered his guard but stayed alert. "That was the real test."
Caria nodded. "And it would have killed us if we panicked."
Puddle spun once. "Friends strong. Friends survive."
They walked past the kneeling guardian, knowing they had passed the deepest trial so far—
and that whatever waited beyond the final door would not forgive mistakes at all.
