By the time the Black tinted SUV arrived at the city general hospital, Amelia's eyes were already reddened from crying excessively. She was furious with herself for being so insensitive and oblivious to her mother-in-law's questionable absence.

She didn't wait for the car to park properly before hopping out of it and running as fast as her legs could carry her into the hospital.

"Amelia, wait up." Henry jumped out of the car and chased after her while Pascal and Clay followed closely behind.

As Amelia ran, tears blinded her vision, her aching heart felt as though it would collapse any second. But she persisted, pushing every fainting syndrome to the pit of her stomach.

She made her way into the familiar hospital lobby area, Ignoring the surprised and alarmed gazes following her.

Buzzing side comments, rapped in her ears as she made her way to the elevator, panting and crying silently.

"Isn't that the lady trending on social media?"

"Amelia Anderson?"

"Yes, she is the same one. She is still wearing the same dress, look..."

"What is she doing in the hospital?"

"Did you see her eyes? It seems she is crying."

"Probably she lost someone?"

"Who cares? She deserves whatever is happening to her after the way she and her tugs treated that actress."

"Karma does work fast?"

"Let's not jump to conclusions. That actress might not be a saint."

Henry felt sick to the stomach as he passed by, listening to all those sickening remarks. He was tempted to stop and punch at least one person in the face for their spiteful statement. But his focus was getting to Amelia and ensuring she didn't faint again to avoid Blaze's wrath.

"Please..." Amelia kept pressing the elevator call button repeatedly, wiping her flowing tears with the back of her left hand.

"Let me." Henry reached her on time and helped her press the elevator button.

In less than a few seconds, the elevator down slid open.

Amelia hurried in, followed by Henry and her bodyguards who prevented some nosy patients and visitors from riding with them.

Henry punched the desired floor number and the door slid shut before it began to ascend.

"Amelia, you promised me you wouldn't cry. Please, you need to put yourself together. We can't risk you having another health crisis." Henry pleaded, putting his hand over her shoulder and consoling her.

"How come I never realized until now? Why would Blaze and everyone keep such information from me? Even my father? Am I that fragile?" Amelia felt anger surging through her veins.

"I already explained earlier, Amy. We couldn't break such information to you in your state. We all knew the impact it would have on you and the baby. Blaze even wanted you and your father to be discharged first before letting you know. He knew this would affect you greatly and he was trying to protect you."

"How is this protecting me." Amelia bit down on her lower lips to stifle her tears from falling. "I know Maria is not my biological mother but she is more than that to me. What affects her affects me too. How could he not know that?"

"He knows. But he loves you so much to see you undergo so much hurt."

Ding!

The elevator doorbell chimed as it slid open.

"Amelia..." Henry caught her by the wrist, as she hopped out of the elevator in a hurry.

"What? Why are you stopping me." Amelia's forehead furrowed.

"Please, I don't mind going on my knees if you want me to."

The desperation in Henry's eyes pricked Amelia's conscience.

"Go easy on your husband. He is completely broken by his mother's state and he's at his most vulnerable point. Show compassion. That is all I ask."

Amelia smiled bitterly amid tears. She nodded her head and followed behind Henry as the latter led the way.

A doctor was busy accessing Maria's reflexes and vital signs while speaking to Blaze when Amelia quietly walked in. Her right hand impulsively cupped her mouth as her gaze fell on Maria looking so pale and lifeless.

"Ma'am, this is a restricted area. Please wait outside." The young female nurse attending to the doctor said politely, causing Blaze and the doctor to snap their head backwards.

"Amelia!" Blaze's eyes widened at the sight of her, his heart which felt dead before, drumming back to life.

He instantly knew this was all Henry's doing and he didn't know whether to get excited or angry at the moment.

He carefully approached her in two long strides, his hands reaching out for hers which to his surprise, she didn't reject like before. His eyes which had been gloomy all this while lit up with hope and happiness that he couldn't quantity.

"Mr Anderson." The doctor called back his attention to his mother.

"Yes." Blaze gently led Amelia to his mother's bedside, his heart pounding real fast.

The doctor raised his brows quizzically at Amelia as if to say, "She's not allowed in here."

"You can continue with your report, doctor. She's my wife." Blaze explained patiently without picking an offense.

"Oh... Forgive me Mrs Anderson for my short-sightedness. I'm Dr Bernard the neurosurgeon." He smiled warmly, with a brief nod of his head.

"Nice to meet you." Amelia managed to say her voice cracking and hoarse.

"Before you arrived, I was simply carrying out some checks on your mother-in-law due to her spiked heart rate. I believe the reason behind the abnormal heart rate is due to an infection which will the addressed immediately with strong antibiotics. Once the drug has been administered, her heart rate will be normalized. But you can be rest assured that her brain is not affected by this."

"Thanks, doctor."

The room went quiet, except for the beeping medical devices, as Blaze and Amelia watched the doctor administer the said medication intravenously to Maria.

They listened as he gave the nurses on duty several instructions and thanked him again when he was done.

When it was finally the two of them with no third party to nose around or interfere, Amelia pulled away from Blaze's suffocating hold, her reddened gaze sharp and cold.

"How come you never said anything? Why do you think it's okay to keep such information away from me? Did you seriously think I wouldn't find out?"

"I'm sorry, Amy. I didn't mean to." Blaze tried to touch her but she coldly avoided his touch.

"Of course you didn't. You never mean to do any of the things you've done. You just do them without any care of how it will affect me or anyone for that matter. All you care about is yourself."

"I'm sorry." Blaze's gaze lowered his eyes shifting to his mother's pale face. His heart aching at the thought of his mother hearing him and Amelia quarrel in her subconscious. When he looked up again to face Amelia, the anger in her eyes had melted and was replaced with something warmer.

As if she could read his thoughts, she said, "Let's not fight in front of Mom. She could hear us and I don't want her to be sad."

"Okay." A faint smile etched across Blaze's lips. "Thanks."

Amelia wiped her flowing tears as she moved over to Maria's bedside. She tenderly stroked Maria's hair backwards and kissed her softly on the forehead. Then she took the seat beside Maria's bed and softly spoke to her while stroking her hand.

"I'm here mom. I'm not letting you go."
