"What? Do you take me for a charity?" Molly Harguez demanded. "Expecting someone to just show up, take a look, say nothing, drop the money, and leave?"
Seeing Molly Harguez acting this way, not just Nia Mitchell, but anyone would have found it impossible to remain pleasant.
"Let me tell you, I don’t have any money," Nia Mitchell spoke first.
"What do you mean you don’t have any money? Huh? We raised you for so many years, and now, at a crucial time like this, you have no money? You ungrateful wretch!" Molly Harguez exclaimed, instantly furious, her face contorted with rage.
"I haven’t even graduated yet. Where would I get any money?" Nia Mitchell pointed out. It was a fact they shouldn’t have forgotten.
Molly Harguez was momentarily speechless. She silently calculated in her mind; it seemed Nia indeed hadn’t graduated yet.
"I told you a long time ago, why bother going to university?" Molly Harguez then said, her voice sharp and rapid as she rattled off the words, heedless of anything else. "You should have just gotten a job. Four years! In four years of working, think how much money you could have saved! Instead, you insisted on studying and even spent the family’s money."
Nia Mitchell was speechless.
"I paid for my own education; I didn’t ask you for money. You didn’t give me a single cent throughout my university years," Nia Mitchell immediately retorted, stating these facts to counter Molly Harguez’s harassment.
Her words, however, made Mr. Mitchell, who was standing to the side, feel deeply ashamed. All these years, the one he felt most guilty towards was Nia.
"What kind of talk is that? Are you trying to settle old scores with me now?" Molly Harguez demanded, her eyes wide and face contorted with rage as she rolled up her sleeves, ready to argue with Nia Mitchell.
"What’s all the shouting about? This is a hospital!"
Suddenly, the door to the Emergency Room opened, and a doctor emerged, frowning.
"Doctor, how is my son?" Mr. Mitchell immediately rushed forward, his face filled with hope.
"He’s temporarily out of danger for now but still needs observation," the doctor stated. "We’ll discuss the specifics later. First, you need to go pay the fees and then complete the admission procedures."
After saying this, the doctor left immediately.
Mr. Mitchell stood there, stunned. The words "temporarily out of danger" echoed in his mind. Temporarily out of danger... That’s great, just great. He’ll definitely be alright.
Seeing Mr. Mitchell in this state, Nia Mitchell couldn’t bear the thought of him running back and forth to handle payments and admission procedures. "How much money do you two have? I’ll go make the payment," she offered.
"What are you talking about? We don’t have any money," Molly Harguez retorted immediately, then simply stood there.
No money? Nia Mitchell sneered inwardly; she didn’t believe for a moment they didn’t have a single cent. After all, isn’t the one lying in there her son?
"I haven’t graduated yet either, so I don’t have any money," Nia Mitchell stated, remaining where she stood. Even though I know this will make Father uncomfortable... I just can’t stand being manipulated or forced.
Hearing Nia Mitchell’s words, Molly Harguez crossed her arms and stood there.
"I don’t believe you don’t have money. I’ve heard you’re the secret lover of some Young Master Peary from Capital Town. That Young Master Peary is supposedly very rich. You ’little mistresses’ must get plenty of benefits. And you still claim you have no money?"
