Chapter 800: Chapter 800: Absent from Her Growth

Looking at James Grant, Sharon suddenly felt shy.

She withdrew her hand, then darted back behind Evelyn Clayton, only revealing her eyes to peek at James Grant.

James Grant looked a bit at a loss and turned to Evelyn Clayton.

Evelyn was also not used to seeing Sharon like this and couldn’t help but ask, "Sharon, what’s wrong?"

Sharon pressed her lips together and didn’t speak.

Keith Donovan stepped in to ease the situation, laughing, "Is the child feeling shy?"

As he spoke, Keith leaned forward, grinning, "Hello Sharon, I’m Uncle Donovan."

Sharon looked at Keith Donovan, then responded quite calmly and generously, "Hello."

Keith Donovan looked at Sharon, utterly charmed by her cuteness.

He stood up and gently nudged James Grant, light-heartedly easing the atmosphere, "You lucky guy, having such an adorable daughter."

Evelyn didn’t join the conversation, instead, she looked at Sharon, "Sharon, what’s up? You never used to be this easily shy."

Upon hearing this, a hint of contradiction flashed across Sharon’s face.

Eventually, she stepped forward.

With her hands behind her back, she awkwardly addressed James Grant, "Can I not call you Daddy for now?"

The words were startling, even leaving Evelyn Clayton momentarily stunned.

A trace of hurt flickered in James Grant’s eyes.

Yet he couldn’t bear to criticize Sharon, so he gently asked, "Can I know why?"

"I’m not used to it." Sharon averted her gaze, "I’ve never called anyone Daddy before."

Evelyn understood.

No matter how precocious and clever Sharon was, she was still a child under five, and couldn’t possibly handle everything with complete composure.

Moreover, now she was facing her father, someone who hadn’t been present since she could remember.

Sharon’s words fell into James Grant’s ears, filling his heart instantly with inescapable guilt.

At that moment, he almost despised himself for the fool he had been years ago.

Absent from Sharon’s growth.

Now, any sadness he felt was his own doing.

James Grant didn’t want to pressure Sharon, so he showed a gentle smile, "If Sharon isn’t used to it, then don’t say it. You can call me when you feel comfortable."

Sharon’s eyes twinkled as she gave a sweet smile, "Well then, I’ll call you Uncle Grant!"

James Grant chuckled, "Okay."

Keith Donovan, still unmarried and without children, didn’t know when he would have one, and couldn’t help but envy Sharon now.

So Keith moved closer and chuckled, "Then how about calling me Uncle Donovan? You didn’t just now."

Unexpectedly, Sharon, in a serious tone, said, "I won’t call you!"

Keith Donovan was taken aback, "Why not?"

"I feel like you’re not a good person." Sharon mumbled, and promptly returned to stand behind Evelyn, leaving Keith Donovan dumbfounded in place.

Evelyn held her daughter’s small hand, feeling an indescribable satisfaction inside.

But she naturally didn’t show it on her face, and just said, "Let’s sit down first, Sharon hasn’t had dinner yet."

Upon hearing this, James Grant quickly asked the waiter to bring out the dishes.

"I ordered a selection of dishes that children usually love, though I don’t know if Sharon will like them." James was unable to hide his nervousness as he spoke, which made Keith Donovan feel a little exasperated with him.

But when he turned to look at the delicate and charming Sharon, even Keith Donovan couldn’t find any words to say.

Honestly, if he had such a smart and adorable daughter who wouldn’t acknowledge him, along with an impressive "ex-wife" like Evelyn Clayton, he would probably feel the same way.
