Chapter 801: Chapter 801: Probing for the Motive

The waiter brought the dishes, and Evelyn Clayton briefly glanced over them, choosing a few for Sharon.

"Sharon isn’t too picky about food, but she really doesn’t like onions and chives. I’ve never forced her to eat them. She likes steamed egg custard, but it can’t have minced meat or scallions. A little soy sauce or sugar water, she enjoys both."

"Sharon doesn’t really like sweet things, but she loves chocolate, and she really likes coffee-flavored foods. Children of her age rarely like the taste of coffee."

Evelyn Clayton described Sharon’s preferences in detail. Initially, James Grant was listening intently, but he gradually realized that Sharon’s tastes were almost identical to his own. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

Disliking onions and chives, not loving sweets, liking coffee, enjoying carrots...

Everything seemed carved from the same mold as him.

Even Keith Donovan noticed something was up.

He frequently looked at James Grant, feeling quite moved.

No wonder James Grant was so stubborn and refused to leave.

Knowing he had a child here, and one so similar to himself, a lovely and obedient daughter, even he would have hesitated.

If he could really let go, then Keith would think James was truly heartless.

Thinking of this, Keith couldn’t help but glance at Evelyn Clayton again.

Intuition told Keith that Evelyn’s purpose in initiating this meeting today could not be so simple.

After all, he’d seen how ruthless this woman could be.

If Evelyn merely wanted James to connect emotionally with Sharon, Keith wouldn’t believe it even if beaten to death.

So, while Sharon was focused on eating, Keith smiled and said, "Evelyn, last time I drank too much and might’ve said some things I can’t remember. If there was anything inappropriate, please forgive me."

Evelyn Clayton was clear-minded; she knew Keith was trying to probe her intentions for today’s meal.

James was half-absorbed with Sharon right now, not even noticing what Keith said, just helping Sharon with her food.

Evelyn glanced at James, then smiled at Keith, "I’m not here today to demand an apology. Frankly, in our previous meetings, I wasn’t very polite because Sharon was in the hospital at the time. I hope you don’t take it to heart."

"Oh," Keith chuckled, "Sharon is James’s daughter, which kind of makes her my goddaughter. I definitely won’t take it seriously."

Upon hearing this, Evelyn’s smile faded slightly.

Keith’s strong emphasis on this was forcing her to take a stand.

As for what kind of stance, it naturally depended on James Grant’s intentions.

At this point, James finally noticed the conversation between Keith and Evelyn.

He frowned slightly, instinctively glancing at Keith.

Keith smiled, unmoved.

He was indeed pressing Evelyn to show an attitude. Although getting custody wasn’t likely, at least James should be guaranteed to see his child regularly.

James naturally understood Keith’s message and gave him a warning look to shut up.

He had come today just to see Sharon, without expecting anything else.

When they would meet again after today, it could entirely depend on Evelyn’s wishes.

He only needed to wait, waiting for Evelyn to recognize his sincerity and be willing to co-parent Sharon with him.

James would no longer try to force her.

"Whether or not she’s your goddaughter, that’s another matter. After all, Sharon has been with me, and there are plenty of people wanting to claim her as a goddaughter. You might even have to line up now."
