Chapter 190: The Shape-shifting Mentor

Lilin’s POV:

My mother has given me a lot of quests in the past. Some were quite easy to accomplish, while some were challenging.

She even pushed me down the abyss of torment and instructed me to obtain the powers of the Nephilim—which I accomplished. But now, she is asking me to find a way to strengthen the whole Shadow Realm!

How can I do that? I do have the powers of the Nephilim, but even that is futile in a quest this big. But I can’t argue with my mother on this—especially not in front of the coven.

I let down the hoodie of my cloak and bowed to my mother. "I accept to lead the quest. I will try to fix the mistake that has occurred from my ignorance."

After I got out of the cavern, I realized the seriousness of the trouble that I am in. I should find a way to strengthen the Shadow forces. But how?

The only thing that I didn’t like about my mother is that she always gives me the quest—but she never guides me. She expects me to do everything on my own.

Sometimes, the quests she gives me would sound more complicated, but they turn out to be simple. And other times, the situation is quite the opposite.

This time I wasn’t able to come up with a way of even beginning this quest. Only one person could help me now. And it was none other than my Mentor Hage.

He always has an answer to all the questions I ask. He knows a lot of languages—and some of them are mortal tongues. In my previous quests, he was the one who aided me. Perhaps I should go to his dwelling place and ask for his help!

I emerged out of smokey air in front of the old tavern that was at the outer regions of the Shadowland. Hage owns this palace—as he is a compulsive wine drinker.

Even though he drinks more wine than other entities, he never gets as highly intoxicated as everyone else does. The shapeshifting ability in him somehow doesn’t let him get high. Still, he keeps on drinking wine!

I don’t remember the last time I was here. Now everything here looks different. For a moment, I doubted myself if I was in the right place or not. The wooden floor below me had clean carpets on them. Usually, the floor is just dirty.

The walls were painted, and the head of various animals that Hage had hunted were hanging on them. The furniture of the tavern seems to be shiny new.

This place was always so crowded in the past. But now, there was no one except Hage and a pretty girl who was standing behind the bar counter. She was pouring the grey wine into his glass while I walked towards them.

The bar girl started shivering when she saw me, just like every other weakling did in this realm. "Princess...Lilin...." She addressed me anxiously, and she ran away from the spot.

Every time someone gets scared of me, it makes me feel delighted. Being superior to others is one of the things that assures me that I am powerful. On the other hand, when someone disrespects me, it pisses my mind off to no extent.

Hage turned his attention to me while he was seated on the stool close to the counter. I wanted to laugh at his clothing choice for today. He was wearing mortal clothes!

Still, it managed to bring out his appearance. His shirt buttons were undone—and it revealed his attractive torso. I always admired the looks of my shapeshifting Mentor.

But I didn’t do anything more than that—as he is my mentor. And even if I insist, Hage would refuse me as he is very loyal to my mother. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

I sat down on the stool beside him and looked at his purple eyes. They were dazzling like ever!

"What brings you here, Lilin? Did the Demon Queen scold you again?"

I let out a sigh when I heard his question. When I was a little girl, I used to come here every time my mother yells at me for not accomplishing a certain task. Hage always consoles me and gives me a lecture on how to rectify my mistakes.

"No, she didn’t yell at me this time. Instead, she gave me a quest," I responded.

He took a sip of grey wine from his glass and said, "So what is your quest?"

"I have to strengthen the force of Shadow Realm."

Hage almost spat the wine that he was drinking. He then placed the wine glass on the counter and wiped his mouth with the long sleeves of his shirt.

"She wants you to strengthen the Shadow forces this time?"

I nodded and said," Yes! And how am I supposed to do it? Should I have to sacrifice myself like that weakling Celestia did?"

"Not exactly! Your mother would never ask you to do such a thing. And even if you sacrifice yourself, the Dark Lord won’t accept it. I am pretty sure that he wants you to stay alive and do his deeds."

His words comforted me a little. "Okay, then how can I accomplish my task?"

Hage picked up his glass and thought for a while. I didn’t bother him until he emptied his glass—as he always says that he gets his best idea when he drinks wine.

After he emptied the glass, he fixed his purple eyes on me. "You misunderstood your mother’s words as usual."

I wrecked my mind to discern what I understood wrong. But I couldn’t come up with anything. "Master, how could you say that I misunderstood the quest?"

"You misunderstood your quest! You are trying to strengthen the Shadow forces, aren’t you?"

"Yes! That is my quest."

"No, it isn’t your quest. You have to increase the Shadow forces, and it doesn’t mean that you have to improve the capabilities of everyone in this realm. It is an impossible task to do."

"Fine! Then tell me what I should do—"

"Just remember this, Lilin. If you don’t have something, then you should snatch it from the others who have it."
