Chapter 32: Chapter 19: The King Beast’s Possessiveness

A Male Beast would only be this attentive to his partner.

Sang Luo looked at the man’s imposing, athletic build, and an absurd thought suddenly flashed through her mind.

’Could it be!’

’Is he the Male Beastman I used on the day I escaped?’

That man’s face had been blown into a bloody mess, but his build and physique couldn’t be changed. His clothes at the time had been torn and scorched, but she could still tell it was a military uniform... Once the thought took root, the more Sang Luo looked, the more he seemed to fit. It was practically a certainty.

But why hadn’t Caesar admitted it from the start?

’After we were intimate, I didn’t gain any Talent Power... Could it be that Caesar already has a partner? If so, why did he track me down? Does he want to keep me as a secret lover?’

Sang Luo lowered her gaze. "I really don’t remember what happened the first time we met. Can you tell me about it?"

"...You want to know?" Caesar wrapped an arm around her waist, his presence washing over her.

"Yes, I want to know."

She wanted to figure out his intentions.

A faint blush crept onto his handsome, aloof face. Sang Luo once again smelled that strange, intoxicating scent. She lowered her head and sniffed at him curiously, trying to find its source. "You smell so good. What is that scent?"

The arm around her waist tightened. Sang Luo felt his growing desire and blushed.

"You promised to form a contract with me, to become my partner."

Caesar gazed at Sang Luo’s lovely, alluring face and crimson lips under the moonlight. His Adam’s apple bobbed as he spoke softly.

As Sang Luo inhaled his ever-thickening, alluring scent, her body grew uncontrollably weak and hot. Her mouth went dry, and she wanted to—pounce on him!

She fiercely pinched her thigh, forcing herself to sober up. She shoved the man away, her face still flushed. "Until I find my partner, I have no intention of pairing with any other male!"

It wasn’t that Sang Luo was some chaste woman; the Beast World didn’t even have such a concept. A female’s duty was to take multiple partners, and as an ordinary person, she could hardly defy the way this world worked.

It was just that Lan Cang was a weight on her mind. Until she knew whether he was dead or alive, she had no time for other romantic entanglements.

Besides, she had never agreed to Caesar’s proposal in the first place.

He was just an unexpected antidote, a means to an end. If he really intended to keep her as a lover, then she would not be playing along!

"..." Caesar’s violet pupils constricted for a moment, but his voice was utterly calm. "Sangsang, I promised to help you find him, and I will not deceive you. But I have one condition."

"Go on."

"After you find him, you must dissolve your partnership."

"..."

Caesar was blunt, making no effort to hide his possessiveness. "I want you, and I want to be your only partner. I don’t want any other male to come between us."

Caesar had no Beast Pattern on his arms or neck, but a faint, intermittent golden pattern appeared on his forehead. Sang Luo could guess that this mysterious and powerful man before her was a legendary King Beast.

Caesar had awakened a top-tier talent from a young age and was cultivated with the Empire’s best resources. He was also the most talented and youngest King Beast of his generation on the Western Continent.

Those above King Rank and those below it lived in two different worlds.

Unlike the low-ranking Beastmen who would bend over backward and debase themselves to win a female’s favor, King Beasts were mostly proud, arrogant, and possessive. They were not willing to share a female with other males and might even secretly kill their weaker rivals...

’If Sang Luo cared deeply for Lan Cang, to the point of resisting Caesar because of it, it would only make Caesar more determined to eliminate this hidden rival... No, a low-ranking Beastman wasn’t even worthy of being considered a rival in his eyes, let alone sharing a partner with one. That would be an insult to a King Beast!’

Remembering that Caesar’s troops were still stationed in the Rubel Forest, Sang Luo struggled for a moment before feigning obedience.

"Fine, I agree!"

"But I want to see him one more time. He is my first partner, after all. Even if we’re dissolving the partnership, I want to discuss it with him and end things peacefully." Sang Luo took the initiative to step forward and hug Caesar, whose breathing immediately hitched. She tilted her face up, smiled at him, and asked, "If there’s still no news of him after three months, I’ll pair with you then, okay?"

Caesar looked down at her tenderly. "Alright. As you wish."

’That man is too controlling and calculating. I don’t like it,’ she thought, her expression darkening after Caesar left to attend to some matters.

’Once I get news of Lan Cang, I should make plans to run away as soon as possible.’

The restaurant from last night was pretty good. Sang Luo had just stepped out to grab a bite when an agile, slender snow leopard screeched to a halt right in front of her!

The snow leopard spoke in a human voice, the documents in its mouth scattering all over the ground. "Greetings, My Lady! I’m looking for Lord Caesar. I have an urgent matter to report!"

As he spoke, a series of CRACKING sounds came from his body as he transformed into his human form. A flash of white light passed before Sang Luo’s eyes, and the man was suddenly dressed.

He had short silver hair, a bit of a baby face, and round eyes that made him look like a minor. There were seven faint purple markings on his neck, almost spreading to the sides of his lower face. He was quite dashing.

Sang Luo moved to help pick up the scattered documents, but the man was faster. Out of the corner of her eye, she glimpsed a few words: "...Genetic Test." Her movement paused.

"My apologies, My Lady! That was reckless of me. I almost startled you!"

Sang Luo recognized him as Caesar’s adjutant, Leon.

"It’s fine." Sang Luo glanced at the documents in his hand. "Is it urgent? Caesar just stepped out for something. Should I call him back?"

"No, no, no, there’s no need! It’s not that urgent. I can just wait here for the Admiral!" He stood ramrod straight, a perfect military posture.

Sang Luo smiled and opened the door, heading inside. "Come wait inside. He probably won’t be back for a while."

’Caesar must be quite busy on a normal day,’ she thought. ’In the few days I’ve been here, he’s rarely been home.’

Leon followed her into the house, looking around. It seemed to be his first time here.

"How old are you?" Sang Luo poured him a cup of tea, making small talk.

"Reporting, My Lady! I am forty-three years old!"

"..." Sang Luo’s hand trembled, nearly spilling the tea. She stared in shock at Leon’s baby face. Even his voice sounded like that of a naive high school boy.

’She had almost forgotten. A Beastman’s lifespan was proportional to their strength. For a Seventh Rank Beastman, a lifespan of two or three hundred years was normal, which meant Leon was indeed still young.’

"Ahem. Admiral Caesar and I... are not partners. You don’t have to call me ’My Lady’. Just call me Sang Luo."

"Understood, Lady Sang Luo!"

"..." She couldn’t be bothered to correct his form of address anymore and poured herself a glass of water. "How many years have you been with Caesar?"

Leon scratched his head, embarrassed. "Lord Caesar is exceptionally talented. He was on the battlefield as a commander at just fifteen. People like us have to muddle through the military districts for decades just to get certified. I was transferred from the military district three years ago, mainly responsible for information gathering. The Admiral saw that I was efficient and has kept me by his side ever since."

"What are you holding?"

"On the Admiral’s orders, I’m to transfer a blood sample to the testing department. This is a military secret, so I’m afraid I can’t disclose too much..."

Sang Luo didn’t press further. She offered him a bag of seasoned meat jerky. "I made these myself. Would you like to try some?"

"Thank you, My Lady!"

「Three days later.」

The lab results came back. The DNA extracted from the blood sample was checked against the gene bank and traced back to the slums of District B-517 on the Western Continent.

"That Mutant Wolf Beast came from the slums?" Leon suspected the test results might be wrong.

Caesar said nothing, staring at the file in his hands.

It was true that the Western Continent was prosperous, but its class divisions were distinct and extremely harsh. Beastmen of inferior bloodlines were banished to the slums, where they bred for generations. Their descendants’ bloodlines grew even more mixed. These inferior Beastmen had innate genetic defects and were highly susceptible to bouts of berserker fury. If discovered, they would be killed on sight by the Imperial army.

Over millennia of development, the slums had long become a lawless place where the sun never shone. Of course, the Yalan Empire didn’t care, so it had never conducted genetic verification on every Beastman in the slums. Aside from confirming the Wolf Beast’s origin, they couldn’t obtain any more information.

"By the way, this person is also connected to the Kordo Tribe. Should we inform Lady Sang Luo...?" Leon asked.

"No need. He’s not that Wolf Beast." The file in Caesar’s hand turned to ash. "This Mutant Wolf Beast’s fury level has surpassed eighty. If encountered, deal with it according to Imperial law."

"Yes, sir!"
