Chapter 418: Chapter 357: Giving Birth

"Dad went into seclusion. I don’t know when he’ll be back. If Mom misses him, I’ll go find him." As Little Zhenzhen spoke, it tried to jump out of Sang Luo’s arms.

Sang Luo quickly held it down. "Your dad has also reached a critical bottleneck in his breakthrough. Don’t go disturb him right now. Let him focus on his seclusion. We don’t want a repeat of last time... Sigh..."

Little Zhenzhen was perceptive. Noticing the flash of sadness in its mother’s eyes, it grew much more quiet and obedient. "What’s wrong, Mommy? Will Dad be in danger?"

"Not this time." Sang Luo smiled and patted its little head, then took Little Zhenzhen to the Phoenix Palace. ’This child plays so wildly. It would be terrible if it ran into danger, so I need to find someone to watch over it.’ "Until your dad comes back, you’re to stay at your grand-uncle’s house. Remember to behave and don’t cause any trouble, you hear?"

Little Zhenzhen immediately deflated. ’Grand-uncle seems nice to the kids, but he’s actually the strictest one of all! If I act cute with Dad, I might be able to get out of today’s lessons. With Grand-uncle? Forget about it!’

The time for morning court had passed, but Fei Yuan still hadn’t returned. He was probably held up by other matters.

Sang Luo carried Little Zhenzhen to a side hall to play with the two Little Phoenixes.

Little Fatty Ball was still a chubby little fluffball, though it had grown a bit bigger. Some of its downy fuzz had started to recede, replaced by fine, slender, crimson-gold feathers on its wings and tail. Three beautifully patterned plumes adorned its phoenix crest.

Little Lucky Star had two plumes on her head, theirs a deeper, more magnificent shade of dark red.

For the first few months after the two little ones hatched, they looked nearly identical—just a pair of fluffy yellow chicks. But the older they grew, the more distinct they became, much like they had been before hatching.

Little Fatty Ball was a bright red with brilliant gold accents—a classic, traditional Fire Phoenix.

Little Lucky Star’s coloring took more after her father, a mutated Fire Phoenix. Her feathers leaned toward a dark red, though they couldn’t compare to Fei Yuan’s, whose were so dark they were nearly black, making him a Profound Phoenix.

"Mommy~ I can fly!" Little Lucky Star, a beautifully proportioned little fledgling phoenix, gave a few gentle flaps of her wings and drifted slowly down to land in Sang Luo’s palm.

"My little girl is so clever!" Sang Luo gave her fluffy little body a kiss, then turned with a grin to Little Fatty Ball. "Son, your sister has already learned to fly. What about you?"

Little Fatty Ball flapped his wings with all his might, but his claws stubbornly refused to leave the ground. Utterly discouraged, he said, "Mom, I’ll keep trying my best..."

"Hehe, don’t worry. It’s perfectly normal for some to learn faster than others." Sang Luo couldn’t help but chuckle, bending down slightly to scoop him into her arms as well.

She went back to her side chambers, placing the two Little Phoenixes and Little Zhenzhen on the bed and giving them a few toys to play with.

She said to Little Zhenzhen, "Take good care of your little brother and sister. Mommy’s going to make some jerky for you all."

"Yay! I love Mommy’s jerky more than anything~"

Sang Luo went to the kitchen and took some fresh beast meat from her spatial storage. She cut it into even strips, rubbed them with seasoning, and placed them in the icebox to chill. Footsteps approached from behind, and a long, slender arm wrapped around her, pulling her into an embrace.

With his other hand, Fei Yuan cupped her chin and turned her face toward him. His phoenix eyes held a faint smile. "I knew you were back. Why didn’t you come and find me sooner?"

"Your Majesty is so busy with official matters. I was afraid I’d be a bother~"

Sang Luo grinned and leaned in to plant a kiss on the corner of his lips.

The look in Fei Yuan’s eyes deepened. He pulled Sang Luo close and teleported them to the bathing pool. It was his habit to bathe and burn incense after court. Though he had been held up by official business, he had rushed over the moment he sensed her presence.

It had been far too long since he’d been intimate with his lovely mate. He truly missed the taste of her. Seeing her return with yet another swollen belly, a hint of plaintiveness flickered in his narrow phoenix eyes. He captured her lips, nipping at them lightly. "When are you going to take a break?"

"This one was a complete surprise. After this baby, I’m done. I’ll focus on spending time with all of you."

Only then was Fei Yuan satisfied, and he carried her down into the bathing pool.

He sprinkled a special medicinal solution into the water. In the later stages of her pregnancies, Sang Luo was always overcome with fatigue, and these remedies were excellent for alleviating her physical discomfort.

As Sang Luo soaked, a wave of drowsiness washed over her. Nestled in Fei Yuan’s embrace and breathing in his reassuring scent, she soon fell soundly asleep.

「Day turned to night, the stars fading with the dawn.」

She woke up feeling incredibly comfortable.

The pool water was still warm, and a hazy mist swirled over its surface.

Still half-asleep, Sang Luo nuzzled against the man holding her and murmured drowsily, "Fei Yuan..."

"Hm? Why don’t you take a good look at who I am?"

The deep, magnetic voice that sounded by her ear was tinged with a hint of sullenness.

Sang Luo’s mind instantly snapped into focus. She opened her eyes to a profoundly handsome face with choppy, silver-gray hair and ocher-gray eyes that held a cold, bewitching allure. Who else could it be but Biya?

’He actually followed me here.’

’How awkward. I mistook him for someone else.’

Biya lowered his head and gave her lips a sharp nip. His voice was husky. "If it weren’t for the fact that you’re pregnant, I’d have to punish you properly."

"...If you dare try anything, you can forget about this baby."

Sang Luo knew exactly where to hit him.

Biya didn’t dare do anything to her in her current state.

Hearing footsteps at the entrance, Sang Luo turned to see Fei Yuan approaching with food.

Only then did she notice the scattered strands of spider silk on the floor, some of which bore scorch marks. ’These two... Don’t tell me they had a fight while I was asleep?’

"Luo’er," Fei Yuan said, "I found this Ice Spirit Snow Lotus in a Secret Realm a few days ago. It’s highly nourishing for an expectant mother. Have a taste."

Sang Luo accepted the Snow Lotus from him. Its petals were as thin as cicada wings, looking as if they were sculpted from pure ice crystals. They were beautiful and translucent, refracting the sunlight into a dazzling glow. Even a faint sniff revealed an incredibly dense and pure Spiritual Energy.

Even though she was pregnant with a child of the Insect Clan this time and didn’t have much need for the Beast World’s Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures, this type of nourishing spiritual material was still very beneficial for the mother.

Not long after she finished eating it, a series of bearing-down pains started in her abdomen.

Her brow furrowed, her face paled, and a pained grunt escaped her lips.

"Are you sure that thing you gave Luoluo wasn’t poisonous?" Biya asked anxiously.

Having delivered babies so many times before, Fei Yuan was relatively calm. "The child has gathered enough energy. It’s time to be born."

"This... it’s a premature birth... will it be dangerous?"

"Those World Energy Crystals you fed Luo’er contained far too much energy. If she doesn’t give birth early, her body won’t be able to handle that much power, and the risk of a mishap would be much higher."

Biya picked up a half-conscious Sang Luo and carried her to the delivery room.

Fei Yuan followed close behind. He had already ordered the delivery room to be prepared and now gave Sang Luo a Painless Pill.

Sang Luo lay on the delivery bed, her consciousness hazy. The gentle, concerned voices of Fei Yuan and Biya drifted in and out of her hearing, but she couldn’t quite make out their words. All her attention was focused on a single point: her belly.

Giving birth to the Insect Clan children wasn’t difficult. She barely suffered at all. With a light clench of her jaw, her belly contracted a few times, and then it was flat.

Biya lifted the blanket, carefully took out several white insect eggs, washed them clean, and wrapped them in swaddling clothes.
