Chapter 68: Danger

Students quieted down.

Their constant murmurs and laughter vanished from the room.

The ringing bell was a sign for the instructor to arrive.

Sure enough, the door creaked open as the broad-shouldered brunette man entered.

With a soft beard covering his face, he was a great example of a Dilf.

Girls whispered upon seeing him.

When he showed his white teeth and masculine jawline, even boys had to admit that he was a charismatic teacher.

"Hello, my students and future friends," his voice was soothing, contrary to his outer appearance. "This is my first lesson, and pardon my nervousness."

’What a poser,’ Noa thought, seeing through his facade. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"My name is Arnold, and the course I am teaching is called Ember Against Nature and How to Beat It."

He let the pause linger.

"He seems like a good guy," Martha whispered beside him.

"Yep," Noa agreed. "I like him as well."

Then he smirked, touching his phone.

’Pity, Dusk would have to kill him,’ he mused, noting to message the assassin when the lesson was done.

Meanwhile, Arnold went on with his lecture, sharing his abundant knowledge.

The man was Returne grade, as only a handful of higher-grade Embers decided to teach, and Evolved suffered from a lack of attention.

"There are more than ten explored zones in First Abyss. We will cover and study all of them. Though it won’t be limited to papers you need to read, but actually practice within the Abyss."

Arnold had a unique cloning ability, allowing him to make Evolved versions of himself.

It allowed him to enter the lower-grade Abyss, enabling him to monitor each class individually and protect them if anything went wrong.

"The maze... I believe everyone should know this place. It has one of the lowest-level monsters and a fairly easy environment to fight in."

Arnold shared his opinions about starting zones.

He also showed pictures of each territory and explained the hardships they could pose.

It was an interesting class—useful and practical, even.

Students shared Noa’s observations and listened attentively, especially Martha, who seemed really invested and noted almost every word.

Seconds ticked by, but time passed quickly.

When the bell rang, students hunched their backs in disappointment, eager to learn more.

"I had a blast teaching you," Arnold said, displaying his white teeth as if he were shooting a toothpaste commercial. "Tomorrow we are starting the first practical lessons, and for today, try to get enough rest."

Then he left the room.

Each step calculated and precise, his eyes swiping across the room before leaving.

Before his classmates erupted in uproar, Noa put his head over the desk.

’I was silent this entire time. Good job me not irking him.’

His face changed into a wry smile as he took his phone and messaged Dusk.

"Yo."

His tone was casual.

"Master Zero, how can I be at your service?"

The answer came right away.

’At least be consistent in how you address me,’ he dwelt.

Then he tapped his fingers on the screen in quick succession.

"I have a job for you. Two days later, I want you to kill Arnold Swag and make a big scene out of it. Record his corpse and share it all over the net. He is my professor, and it shouldn’t be a problem for you."

His long text was followed by a short reply.

"Consider it done."

But another line of text appeared soon after.

"Master, do you have any other orders?"

Noa chuckled at his eagerness, typing a single "No" before putting his phone back.

Only after doing so did he glance at his surroundings, noticing his new team members standing in front of him.

"What’s up?" he asked, darting his eyes between them.

"Your house," Rika stated. "Let’s go and have a welcome party."

Ezra nodded beside her.

Martha playfully covered her lips but grinned underneath, agreeing as well.

Even Arthur didn’t refuse.

The protagonist seemed just as eager to come with them.

’What the heck?’ Noa murmured inwardly. ’Why are they acting this way?’

Wanting to clear the confusion, he asked aloud,

"Why are we suddenly going to my house? Don’t you guys have better things to do?"

Rika massaged her temples and said,

"You just bought your house and even invited us. Now you are asking why we want to come?"

"And as teammates, it will be good to get to know each other," Martha added.

Noa wanted to facepalm himself.

’But it’s a wonderful opportunity. Rika and Ezra would be a good addition for my slav... friend list,’ he considered.

There was no information about Martha, and he couldn’t remember her ranking.

As Noa stood up and strolled straight to the door, people gossiped about his group.

"They already hit it off."

"I think they are the strongest contenders from our class."

"Agreed. I am so jealous. Getting high marks on this practice match means more points for us to spend."

"True. It’s so hard to collect these damn points but thinking about the items I can exchange them for waters my mouth."

"Let’s just go and train. Unfortunates like us have to sweat buckets if we want to compete."

Amidst these whispered noises, one particular group glared at Noa’s disappeared figure.

"Tomas, should I call my boys and teach that bastard a lesson?"

A guy from Tomas and Amelia’s team chimed in, his voice filled with flattery as he tried to suck up to them.

"That punk and his little assholes need to be punished for crossing you," added another.

Amelia and Tomas chuckled at the same time, their brows knitting like stormy clouds.

"No need," the former said, her voice dropping lower. "The surprise I made is already on its way. He will meet them soon enough."

Meanwhile, Noa’s shoulders sagged under the pressure of the people walking beside him.

"I am so excited about the party. What should we order?" Rika asked, both holding themselves back.

They quickly hailed a taxi, starting their first journey.

Suddenly, Noa exclaimed, his eyes picking up flickering streetlights, casting an ominous premonition over his heart.

"Someone is following us," he said, disregarding the confused faces around him.

"Please stop the car. We need to get out," Noa yelled, drawing his sword.
