Ghost Exorciser: The Oust Fake Heiress Strikes-Chapter 146: Mother And Daughter
The ghost whipped around, terrified. She hadn’t expected Lana to still be there.
For a moment, Lana almost laughed at the horrified expression, but she restrained herself. ’If I laugh, she might start crying...’
Despite the ghost’s horrific appearance, Lana’s attitude softened after realizing the girl might be a victim.
’Not all ghosts are evil.’
Even though she had already made the hard decision that this ghost ultimately couldn’t be left alive, she still looked at the girl gently.
"Do you want attention because you want people to know your story?"
The ghost hesitated, then nodded. Her mannerisms were so human-like that Lana couldn’t help but marvel.
"Were you killed by someone?"
The ghost’s expression twisted with resentment. Even the air turned malicious. Lana instantly pulled out an exorcism talisman and waved it threateningly.
The girl immediately calmed down. Her shoulders slumped, and even her dangling hair dropped limply... she looked like a puppet with cut strings.
Lana controlled the twitch of her lips and continued,
"Are you related to a man named Ezra?"
In an instant, the ghost’s massive eyes widened further. Because her pupils were microscopic dots inside giant sclera, the expression was unnervingly eerie.
Lana suppressed the flicker of fear in her heart.
"I saw Ezra. I’m investigating him. Are you the one attacking him at night?"
The ghost shook her head firmly.
Lana blinked. ’That ruins my entire theory...’ For the first time, she doubted her intelligence. She had mapped out an entire story, only for it to crumble.
"Is the woman harming Ezra related to you?"
This time, the ghost’s expression turned troubled. She looked conflicted.
Lana studied her more closely... really looking at her face, her proportions, and her features. And then she realized something.
This ghost wasn’t an adult woman.
She was a teenage girl.
A terrible premonition washed over Lana.
She asked softly, "Did Ezra... kill your mother?"
The ghost immediately looked at Lana and nodded, as if astonished that Lana had figured it out.
Lana clenched her fist. She had reached that conclusion only because of the ghost’s age and a few subtle reactions earlier.
She sighed gently and continued, "Did your mother and you live in the apartment where Ezra lives now?"
The ghost shook her head.
Lana thought for a moment and then asked, "Was your mother in a relationship with Ezra? Maybe an affair?"
This time, the ghost nodded.
Understanding dawned on Lana. "So... the apartment Ezra lives in now originally belonged to your mother or her relative?"
The ghost nodded again.
Lana continued, "Did you and your mother come here because your mother wanted to meet Ezra?"
The teenage ghost nodded with an excited expression, as if Lana had perfectly followed the trail.
Then Lana asked for the final piece. "Did Ezra kill your mother using some method... to take over the property?"
She couldn’t think of any other reason as to why a man like Ezra would kill the ghost’s mother.
One thing she had understood after spending a few minutes with Ezra was... he was a lustful brat. Why would he kill a woman who can satisfy him?
Arguments about the past? Unlikely.
Not to mention, Ezra himself looked like he didn’t own the apartment at all!
The ghost nodded instantly.
Before Lana could react, she noticed the ghost’s body slowly turning transparent.
Her eyes widened slightly. The teenage girl looked at Lana with a soft expression and whispered three fragile words:
"Can you help?"
Lana was stunned. Her heart tightened as she looked at the fading figure. She nodded softly.
Seeing her nod, the ghost smiled, whispered "Thank you," and began dissolving.
Mr. Crow’s voice rose sharply, "What’s happening?"
Lana answered, "She’s disappearing because the reason she stayed in this world is fading."
Mr. Crow asked, "What do you mean?"
Lana spoke quietly, "Her obsession was to let the truth be known. The moment she realized someone understood and might reveal it... she let go."
Mr. Crow fell silent. He knew well that some ghosts linger only because of a powerful obsession or unfulfilled last wish.
When that wish is fulfilled... even partially... they can finally pass on.
He felt unexpectedly emotional. A ghost who stayed behind only to ensure her mother’s death was not forgotten... It was painfully touching.
Lana watched the teenage ghost dissolve into golden sparkles and gently vanish from the world. She closed her eyes and softly clapped her hands, sending a silent prayer.
’Wherever you go... may you find peace and a loving family in your next life.’
Even though Lana knew nothing of the girl’s exact background, she could guess one thing.
A child so attached to her mother, who brought her into an unsafe environment, perhaps due to desperation, likely didn’t have an easy childhood.
Perhaps she followed her mother because she suspected Ezra was dangerous.
Either way, Lana hoped the girl would reincarnate into a kinder world.
A world where she would have a mother who would be smart enough not to bring her own daughter to an unsafe place. A world where a good girl like her is not in the hands of Ezra. And a world where she won’t have to hang around to get others’ attention...
Lana opened her eyes and pressed the button for Ezra’s floor.
Soon, she reached the level of his apartment. The door to his unit was still open.
During the ride up, Lana hadn’t stayed idle.
She had already called the police. Once connected, she had calmly said, "I’ve encountered a murderer. Please send officers. The address is..."
She gave them the apartment number.
Right then, she heard the soft ding of the elevator. She had returned to the floor where Ezra stayed.
The man’s apartment door was still open, but Lana didn’t enter; instead, she found a corner and waited there for 30 minutes before finally standing up.
Mr. Crow was confused by her actions and asked, "Why did you wait 30 minutes?"
"Hm? Because the cops will take their sweet time to arrive, and my other plans would be destroyed if they arrive late..."
