Chapter 942: Where is the Sun? (2).
A soft fragrance wafted into his nostrils, making him salivate greedily.
He wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes and sat up.
Susan walked into the room, the light from the open window bouncing off her beautiful locks, giving it a touch of vibrance.
Cain couldn’t help but he stunned.
Although her clothing was simply, perhaps even below plain, she looked rather stunning in his eyes.
Her hair was up in a bun, so he could see her milky skin and neck.
In her hands, there was a tray of steaming food; a portion of mutant beast meat roasted with spices as well as an assortment of stir fried veggies and fruits.
Cain froze for a moment.
There were two meals in front of him, both incredibly tempting, urging him to take a bite.
He swallowed hard and plastered a smile,
"Seeing you here so early in the morning is rather uncharacteristic."
Susan glanced at him with suspicion then sighed,
"Since it was on the way, I decided to pick up your lunch. This should keep you full for a while."
Cain smiled,
"Yeah. It will. Thanks."
Cain stretched his hands out to pick the tray out of her hands, but Susan suddenly took a step back, leaving him grasping at nothing.
There was an awkward pause.
Cain looked up at her. Susan glanced down at him, a charming smile on her lips.
"Is that all you really have to say? A beautiful girl like me coming all the way down here so you don’t starve to dead, and the only thing I get is a simple thanks?"
Cain paused for a moment.
At times like this, his mind became truly fired up.
The air was charged with... something.
There was a glint. A hint of something in Susan’s eyes that seemed suggestive and not at the same time.
There were two roads to pass.
One where he asked her to clarify and risk the opportunity slipping from his fingers.
The other road was even riskier.
However, he didn’t have the liberty to think about it too much.
The synapses in his head fired furiously for a few seconds.
With an exasperated sigh, Susan leaned down.
Cain’s eyes widened as a pair of lips, soft like butter, fragrant like flowers, pressed against his.
Over the past six months, his ’relationships’ had become rather strange.
On one hand, he knew getting involved with multiple women all at once was bound to bring trouble.
On the other hand, he just couldn’t say no to their advances. Each and every one of them were beautiful, fueling the flames in his loins.
Of course, he was no beast. The only one he had gone to the final stage with was Roselle.
And after that day, they hadn’t really gotten to see each other much due to how hectic everything was.
It was only now that things were finally starting to cool down.
The soft, wet feeling left him few seconds later.
Her face red as a tomato, Susan cleared her throat,
"Enjoy your meal."
With that, she scurried out and slammed the door shut behind her.
Cain let out a sigh and looked down at the food before.
He felt rather guilty.
But there was nothing he could about it for the time being.
He quickly dug into the platter of food before him.
Indeed, the food would keep him food for a while.
The voracious appetite he now had to deal with had been rather alarming at first.
Fortunately, the flesh of most Mutant Beasts was rather rich with quality Ki, so it was rather filling.
Even better, some of the fruits he was biting into were rich in mana and possessed mystical properties that suppressed his desire to eat.
Very quickly, he devoured it all.
After cleaning up, he settled down behind his table and continued working.
Now that things had died down and he didn’t need to be on bother himself with the dirty work anymore, he had to get the paperwork in order.
Managing a large number of individuals called for organization.
After the war, a lot of Pilgrims has died, but the Golden Asura had only lost about half of their members.
And with the survivors of the Dome of Fire, as well as the Iron Beetles under their wing, they were handling things just fine.
The entire city had been destroyed, but Valestorm had been left intact for the most part even though the Aegis of Balangol was gone forever.
Expanding Balangol required a lot of manpower in the form of craftsmen and builders that took care of the hard work. Managing all that required not only a ton of resources, those resources had to be allocated properly too.
With his mind, Cain had no problem handling all these things.
However, due to the sheer speed everything was progressing at, he always had a lot on his plate.
In just six months after the battle, Valestorm had expanded its borders to cover the entire territory than had been behind the Dome of Sands. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
It truly could only be described as mind boggling progress.
Sandsea had been completely cleaned out, and a wall was already in construction.
With the Divine protection being no more, the humans could only rely on themselves.
The ’Wall’ in question wasn’t completeky a physical wall.
Rather, it was of both physical and arcane nature.
A combination of an actual wall with ramparts, and a mana powered magic barriers.
Managing the resources that went into everything was his job. This was a responsibility he couldn’t throw onto others regardless of how much he wanted to ditch it.
Picking and scanning through a pile of papers, his eyes settled on a two.
Both were invitation letters and were tagged as not urgent, which meant he could attend to them anytime he pleased.
Curious, he decided to open them both.
The first was an invitation from Gilead.
’It’s been a while since ce I’ve seen that guy. A month or so? Then there’s that woman...’ Cain chuckled.
The Pilgrims has not sat down idly all this time, of course. They had played their own role in the expansion as well.
’I wonder what he wants...’ Cain thought to himself as he scanned through the rest of the letter before putting it away and picking up the next one.
This one was from Alvi, asking him to come see him so they could discuss the future of the Iron Beetle together when he was free.
Cain was silent, recalling the not so distant past.
Once he was done, he rose from his seat and waved his hand.
All the documents on the table disappeared in a flash of white, vanishing like they didn’t exist in the first place.
"I guess I better get going." Cain muttered to himself.
Walking out from behind the table, he paused for a moment and looked out the window.
The soft light of day gleamed through the broken planes. However, the sky was still the same as it had been for a long time.
The grey clouds in the sky dispersed and scattered the light, so although there was light, there wasn’t a lot of it, creating a rather dreary atmosphere.
And as for the Sun? The source of this light?
Cain assumed it was hidden behind those grey clouds, but in reality, one could never be too sure.
Common sense dictated that it was still there, but there was always room for doubt in a world of magic.
Throwing on a black hooded cloak, he slowly stepped out of the room and closed the door behind him.
