Chapter 55: A bet with a wealthy girl

When she appeared, followed by several people, everyone stepped aside.

"Miss Rebecca..."

"She was here?"

"She was betting with the big boys upstairs. I heard she just won a bet for 300 million."

"Shit, 300 million?"

"As expected from someone with virtually unlimited money..."

"But does Miss Rebecca play Billiards?"

"No? I’ve never seen her play it."

Many people among those present knew her quite well. They had seen her play in the City for a long time, so it’s only natural.

Plus, she was the daughter of a prestigious family.

Louis looked her up and down and frowned.

’What a bad name for such a fine figure.’ He thought, hearing everyone call her ’Rebecca’. Whenever he heard that name or Jack’s, he couldn’t feel his stomach turn.

But seeing that someone finally had the guts to bet big, he nodded at her.

"Do you want to play with 300 million bets? I heard you just won that, " he asked.

"Hahaha. That would be nice, but I don’t want to play Billiards. I don’t know how to play it, so I guess I’d lose to one who’s pretty good like you. How about gambling elsewhere instead?" She waved her hand and pointed upward. "One that doesn’t require much skill. You bet purely by eye. Go for luck." She said casually.

’Oh.’ Louis immediately became interested, though it made the atmosphere duller for the onlookers.

"I’m interested to know a little about it." Louis replied.

Rebecca stepped aside and showed him to the staircase. "Follow me then."

They both went up to the second floor, where Louis was greeted by several boxing and other martial arts rings. Here, the betting looked a little more frantic.

Someone from the Casino would get together to bet on who would win, and the bettors would go to him to bet. But despite being more frantic, they were quite orderly, and no one broke the rules.

Also, the bets here easily amounted to hundreds of thousands and even millions per fight. And that’s taking into account that the ones who have the most fans in town, the most notable, or the most evenly matched, are not fighting.

In addition, some people bet independently for specific situations during the battles. They bet without approaching the Casino members.

Rebecca opened her mouth as soon as she got here.

"Bets that rely purely on luck are always better, don’t you think? Just by looking, who can better understand the environment? Who can better understand what they have in front of them? Who hits first? It all depends on luck or your eyes."

Louis stared at each battle as it happened. Some were Awakened, some were normal people, but they were all relatively evenly matched.

’I didn’t think there was anything like this inside a Gaming Casino.’ He thought.

It surprised him, but not that it was anything strange. This is a different world; here, things will not necessarily be the same as on Earth.

Besides, he remembered reading once that, in centuries past on earth, they fought in arenas for the nobles to have fun.

It was something similar here. And they could even gamble.

Louis looked sideways at Rebecca.

"Are there rules? You brought your entourage with you, so it looks like you’ll impose some."

But she shook her head. "They’re just there to keep those I bet against from running off without paying."

"It looks like you tend to win bets."

"Haha, I have a good eye."

"Okay. No rules, then?"

She smiled. "The only rule is that we have to bet on something specific that will happen in the battle closest to starting. Then we can keep betting on specific situations in that battle or go to another."

"What if we bet on the same person?"

"Then we’ll be more specific. When will what we say happen - 10 seconds? 30? 1 minute?"

Louis nodded. ’Pretty risky bets that few people would like to get into.’ He smiled.

"Right."

Rebecca then set her eyes on a match.

"It’s about to start." She spoke.

"How about we bet to see who hits first? After the referee yells the start of the bout, if they don’t attack each other wildly, we announce our picks."

"That sounds good. What’s the number to bet on? I’ll match any number you give me, so feel free."

Rebecca looked at him with interest. ’Match any number?’ She smiled.

It was interesting.

"I just won 300 million, so let’s go with that."

"Okay. Then it’ll be 300 million."

When they both agreed, the betting on the other side of the bout ended as well, and the referee kicked off the bout.

It was a boxing match.

And the contestants were differentiated by the color of their clothing. Blue and Red.

Seconds after the start of the bout, they still hadn’t hit each other. They were simply moving with footwork across the ring.

In those moments...

"I choose blue." Louis said.

"I choose red." Said Rebecca.

They both said it at the same time, so they smiled. It looked like this bet was going to be spicy.

There was 300 million on each side at stake.

Even the people behind Rebecca felt slightly pressured, and everyone who heard about the bet started talking about it.

It was too much money at stake.

From Rebecca, they weren’t surprised. She could match almost any number they gave her. Her family was simply a walking money pit.

But what about the stranger? How could he match her with such skill and ease?

He didn’t even seem to care whether or not he would lose that kind of money.

And of course, he wasn’t worried.

He could see things she surely couldn’t. This match...

It would soon give the result of the bet.

Not even ten seconds passed when they approached each other head-on in a rustic street fight, to strike each other.

Then...

The first blow came, and the same one who delivered it dodged the counter punch.

Louis smiled.

"Looks like I won." He spoke.

Rebecca, for her part, was surprised.

’He’s either a good observer or he just got lucky.’ She gave him a sidelong glance, but said nothing. She pulled out the money in Money Cards and gave it to him.

"Good one." She complimented him.

Louis stopped her as she planned to look for a new bout to bet on.

"How about we bet now on the winner of this very bout?" He spoke.

She frowned and turned to look at him.

Almost always, the first one to strike was the winner. After all, they were in an even fight. Whoever struck first, and as forcefully as he did, would have an overwhelming advantage over his opponent.

So, what’s the point of betting?

"You plan to bet on the specific time?" She asked, curious.

"No." He shook his head. "I’ll pick red and put 500 million on him. The time is indeterminate until a winner is announced. Will you?" ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
