Chapter 347: Highways to Heaven

In the mortal realm, only a handful of people like Viscount Roster, the Lava General, and the dragons knew about the Tulip Kingdom situation. But the deities all found out about it pretty quickly after Ren notified them.

After learning about the Hollows, the Enforcers, the Mother of Pain, the approximate population that might exist in the other world, and the fact that their world was being treated like some kind of prison, all the deities fell silent.

Before long, the Council of Gods was established. The Council’s core objective had only one point: cooperate with Ren to complete magic-tech industrialization and transform the world as fast as possible—transformation across every dimension.

Actually, the gods had already realized over this recent period that the power of magic-tech industrialization was only just beginning. Yet each deity clearly felt their faith power increasing. They believed that facing the current situation, Ren’s magic-tech industrialization was definitely the best choice.

"We need to respond to the upcoming crisis along two dimensions. First, strengthen the mortals’ power—whether they’re clerics, supernatural beings, or Magic Conductor users—comprehensively improve them so more people have combat capability."

"Second, increase humanity’s faith in the deities. Amplify certain deities’ power as much as possible to fight against the Mother of Pain."

After the Council of Gods established the overall tone, Ren looked around at the assembled deities and said with a smile, "But the core is still developing magic-tech industry. Only when magic-tech industry and the agriculture it influences develop massively will we have a larger population."

"Next, I’ll introduce everyone to the first goal I’ve set. I believe with everyone’s cooperation, we can definitely complete it all within five years."

As Ren waved his hand, a huge display appeared before the gods. "For the transition from agricultural society to the magic-tech industrial era, I’ve identified 120 major projects, 800 medium and large projects, and 3,000 small projects. Once these projects are completed, we’ll have a solid industrialization foundation."

"Of course, the population will also boom due to agricultural production reforms and the flourishing of agricultural and handicraft activities centered on the agricultural population."

Ren quickly laid out his plan and what needed to be accomplished in the early stages.

At the core of his plan were highways, railways, magic-powered vehicles, ultra-high-speed magic-powered trains, steel production, large-scale self-charging arrays and Magic Power Networks covering all cities and some major territories, heavy magic-tech machinery, machine tools, steel, and other infrastructure, along with plans that could rapidly drive overall development.

He particularly emphasized the concept of "roads are the arteries of commerce"—establishing major highways connecting cities across the continent as quickly as possible, medium-sized highways from cities to various territories, and if possible, small highways from territories to villages and towns.

Though that last part could be delayed and didn’t necessarily need to be completed in this round.

As for the ultra-high-speed maglev trains, the first phase would be built in Dawn’s southern region. After successfully establishing it there, they’d expand outward. The first step was to establish the main trunk lines that could connect the entire continent, then extend outward from those trunk lines.

To ensure smooth construction of the ultra-high-speed maglev trains, various heavy magic-tech machinery, steel production, and other equipment and raw materials were naturally listed as top priorities.

Beyond these industrial matters, products like grain, sugar, and cotton were also laid out in detailed plans, even commissioning the Goddess of Agriculture, the God of Nature, and many other deities to develop related seeds.

Also, expanding farmland was added to the agenda.

Many places unsuitable for cultivation—for example, the northern region of the Kingdom of Dawn had a vast wilderness swamp where people who entered in earlier years were unlikely to leave alive—but with magic-tech development and some magicians’ help, they could completely transform this area into excellent farmland.

Just this one area alone, planting new seeds cultivated by the Goddess of Agriculture and using agricultural Magic Conductors, would likely be able to feed 200 to 300 million people directly.

When that number was announced, many deities’ breathing quickened.

How many humans were there across the entire continent?

At most 400 million.

And most of them were slaves and serfs, restricted in their freedom with almost no faith to speak of.

Now the transformation of this one wilderness could feed that many people. Given time, how powerful would these deities become?

Even if just one percent, or even one-tenth of one percent of these people became their casual believers, the effect would be huge.

"Speaking of which, we also need to find ways to gradually convert mortals’ slaves and serfs into normal free citizens. This will help rapidly increase our faith, since newborns might need about ten years before they can provide faith, but these people only need a small benefit to provide faith immediately."

After a brief digression, Ren returned to the main topic and continued explaining his plan, laying out the ideas for the first stage of the magic-tech industrial era across many dimensions—industry, agriculture, education, healthcare, finance, and more.

Those deities all had astonishment written across their faces. They truly hadn’t expected that Ren’s planned final form of magic-tech industrialization would be like this... No, it couldn’t even be called the final form—it was just the first form of officially scaling up.

These deities had generally lived for over ten thousand years, with the longest-lived having existed for nearly 50,000 years. Yet they all felt that the changes the world underwent over those tens of thousands of years might not compare to the few years Ren was describing.

They instinctively wanted to object. They felt the world couldn’t change that fast. But thinking back to Ren’s impact on this world since his appearance, it seemed... not impossible!

The Goddess of Agriculture was first to react, immediately saying with a smile, "I believe this plan is completely feasible and can even be completed in less time. I’m willing to fully support the magic-tech industrial reform. Additionally, I’ll have my Church of Agriculture take on some responsibilities."

"Beyond agriculture-related matters, I’ll also have agricultural churches everywhere open free schools to turn local residents into the talent needed for the magic-tech industrial era as much as possible... and if there’s extra funding, build as many schools as possible."

As soon as she said this, the gods were momentarily stunned, then one by one they reacted and started taking on tasks they could complete. Building roads and bridges and establishing schools and hospitals were the tasks these deities most liked to undertake.

Roads and bridges would be used by everyone, so placing their divine names in key locations would have obvious effects. Church schools could influence students from childhood, and church hospitals could give desperate people faith...
