Chapter 697: Chapter 396: Divine Awakening: You Actually Want to Be a Dog? (Part 2)

If she were to be exiled from the Dragon Nest, she would be finished. It was very likely she wouldn’t survive to become a young dragon.

However, the little female dragon was evidently unaware of the world outside the Dragon Nest. Even though she was a Red Dragon, once she stepped out of the nest, she wouldn’t need to worry about hunger, as fairies would naturally come to care for her.

How could there ever be a starving hatchling in the territory of the Dragon Clan? Even the Colorful Dragons were not left in such a state.

Unfortunately, this lack of information caused the little female dragon and Jeddon to be afraid to leave the Dragon Nest during this period, having to do their utmost to please their mother, hoping she would take on some of the responsibilities of raising them.

As a Red Dragon clinging to her primal nature, Aurora raised her offspring in the most traditional manner. Despite her amassed wealth being more than ten times that of dragons her age, she was unwilling to spend even a copper coin on her children.

These little ones only deserved her leftovers, and if there were none left, they could go hungry. If they really couldn’t bear the hunger, they could eat some rocks, dirt, grass roots, or tree bark. It’s not like they couldn’t survive, so why should she waste money?

With such a primitive and traditional mindset, no Red Dragon ever left Aurora’s nest with a trace of gratitude, let alone visiting her after achieving some success. Though, they didn’t have this kind of moral concept to begin with.

Thus, Jeddon and his sister spent five years in Aurora’s Dragon Nest in constant fear, feeling like they were on thin ice, until the sixth year when their mother, unwilling to spend any more energy on them, drove them out of the nest.

"You’ve grown big enough; you can get out of here now. My nest will no longer welcome you from today."

"But mother, we are still just juvenile dragons. Could you let us stay a little longer? We can help you carve out the cave and make the nest look even more magnificent."

Hearing such cruel and cold-blooded words from their mother, Jeddon panicked and pleaded repeatedly.

Because, in his perception, the world outside the Dragon Nest was extremely dangerous for a hatchling like him. The sheen of a Red Dragon’s scales was far too conspicuous and was one of the main causes of the high mortality rate among young Red Dragons.

This color, which would become a symbol of disaster once a Red Dragon reached adulthood, was lethal for them in their childhood.

"Carve a cave? Jeddon, I was truly wrong about you back then. I thought you would achieve something remarkable, but in the end, you brought me shame.

Scram. Don’t worry about meals; shortly someone will discover you and guide you to the academy."

Seeing her youngest son’s pleas, impatience and scorn appeared in Aurora’s eyes, her demeanor especially indifferent, with no maternal glow to be seen.

Over the last five years, through her observation, Aurora found that the offspring in which she had once placed high hopes to instill fear in their older sibling, had a character that leaned towards timidity, exhibiting cautious behavior, which left her extremely disappointed. Was this what a Red Dragon was like?

"Academy?"

The two young dragons couldn’t comprehend their mother’s words. They knew they had to face the reality of being expelled from the Dragon Nest, but when they had to walk into the wilderness away from the nest with extreme fear and apprehension, 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

not yet attempting to hunt for food themselves, a Floating Ship nearly a hundred meters long appeared above them, accompanied by a vast Dragon Power.

"Froya Inacio Montes, Jeddon..."

As the Floating Ship steadied and the gangplank lowered, an elderly scholar garbed in a white robe with an elegant demeanor appeared before the extremely vigilant sibling Red Dragons,

"Under the provisions of the Golden Code’s education regulation, you will begin receiving ninety years of obligatory education as Dragon Clan members starting today..."

Seeing the elder Brass Dragon, who suddenly appeared and was jabbering on about a string of unintelligible words, the two young Red Dragons only wanted to escape.

They didn’t understand what obligatory education was, nor did they want to enroll in any academy. All they knew was that falling into the hands of a Brass Dragon was worse than death.

Unfortunately, the elder Brass Dragon, who had already achieved the title of associate professor at the Dragon Academy, wouldn’t let these young dragons escape easily. They were, in short, walking Gold Coins; how could he let them go?

Thus, after a futile struggle and resistance, both young dragons were dragged onto the Floating Ship, beginning what would be, for them, nearly a dreamlike journey.

"Is this for us to eat?"

Jeddon gulped instinctively, looking at the whole roasted lamb before him, feeling as if he were dreaming.

In the past five years, the best food he had was the leftover meat remnants from his mother’s meals, and sometimes he had to gnaw on bones to suck the marrow.

"Of course, the conditions on the ship are limited, so there are only such simple meals available."

The two young dragons were no longer listening to anything else. Even though they couldn’t understand what was limited in those conditions, it didn’t stop them from feasting.

After they had their fill, the two young Red Dragons, filled with apprehension and unease, tentatively asked the guards on the Floating Ship or quietly eavesdropped on the crew’s conversations.

Only then did they realize that there was actually an academy on their land, specifically established for Dragon Clan. All dragons under the Saint Dragons, after reaching the age of six, were obliged to enter and receive education.

Although their instincts strongly rejected studying, it was said the academy provided free food and drink, which excited the two youngsters, making them give up the idea of escape.

After all, being tormented by a Brass Dragon wasn’t such a big deal compared to going hungry.

However, they weren’t the only dragon students on the ship; this was a vessel specifically collecting new students for the Dragon Academy, to receive young dragons needing entry this year.

The ship, although appearing under a hundred meters, internally possessed a much more spacious area; even adult dragons could comfortably assume their true form inside.

In the line of sight of the two little ones, who knew nothing but stuffing themselves, more hatchlings appeared on the ship, though apart from themselves, only metal dragons boarded. In the end, a mixed-blood dragon that seemed like a Golden Dragon yet appeared like a Yellow Jade Dragon also embarked.

"Hey, Jeddon, that dragon’s status doesn’t seem ordinary!"

"I see."

Jeddon lifted his head, uncontrollably staring at the mixed-blood dragon surrounded as if the center of attention among numerous metal dragon hatchlings. Vaguely, he heard terms like "Your Highness" being uttered.

A dragon of unusual status appeared before him.

Jeddon formed this definition in his mind. By logic, as a Colorful Dragon, this was when he should decrease his presence and avoid contact with such metal dragons.

But for some reason, he couldn’t help but stare at the mixed-blood dragon, with dizziness continually assaulting his mind,

"Noah!"

Suddenly, a shout, akin to a roar, filled with endless fury, exploded in his mind, and Jeddon could no longer support himself, his eyes rolling back as he fainted.

Before losing consciousness, Jeddon vaguely saw the once revered Golden Dragon leading a group of dragons toward him, seemingly worried?

Was he mistaken?

A Golden Dragon worried about a Red Dragon? How could that be possible?

"Fool, hopeless fool. You actually developed an affection for the spawn of that despicable reptile. Have you forgotten your lineage, forgotten your origin?"

The words, mixed with endless anger and ridicule, echoed in his mind. In his daze, Jeddon saw a magnificent figure surrounded by nine Suns, though both the Suns and the figure were covered in shocking cracks, as if pieced together,

"I can’t imagine I would have to spend time with an idiot like you!

You are a Red Dragon; that mixed-blood mongrel only reveals that disgusting facade to manipulate you, to make you serve him, and you can’t even discern that?"
