Golden Dragon: Six Thousand Years of Empire-Chapter 711 - 403: The Green Tide Disaster (Part 2)
As if the current dire situation of the Royal Court was entirely caused by Parvati, having nothing to do with them, and as the Great Governor, she was supposed to bear all the responsibility and errors.
"Since it’s all my fault, then I will resign from the position of Great Governor."
For a moment, Parvati, who seemed to be the target of everyone’s criticism, remained calm. When the Spirit Pavilion Palace fell slightly silent, she spoke directly, her voice like thunder, instantly rendering the Spirit Pavilion Palace silent.
"What did you say? You want to resign as Great Governor?"
The first to speak was the Silver Moon Elf Elder who believed Parvati should fulfill her responsibilities and duties. He was immediately agitated, looking angrily at Parvati,
"I absolutely disagree!"
"I also oppose, who are you to not be Great Governor? You’ve made a mess of everything, so you have an obligation to restore it all. Otherwise, do you plan to just walk away? Wishful thinking!"
The Spirit Pavilion Palace, which had maintained silence for only a moment, suddenly burst into an uproar, with all the elf elders expressing their opposition in various ways.
Even the Elf Queen, sitting at the highest point, was no longer calm. She looked at the girl with silver eyes, clear and bright, and her expression as calm as water, with a look of surprise and doubt,
"Lady Parvati, do you really intend to resign as Great Governor?"
As the highest-ranked elf queen with royal blood, she knew her own limits. To maintain the situation was the extent of her capability. She could not be the one to lead the Court through reform and eradicate the decay and corruption of the past.
Therefore, she longed to find a capable elf. Over two hundred years ago, Parvati appeared before her. After witnessing the skills and will of this half-elf, whose bloodline was not pure, the Queen chose to support her.
It can be said that Parvati’s becoming the governor of the Capital is inseparable from the Queen’s support. Unfortunately, the Queen’s authority is only titular, not actual.
"Your Majesty, since the elders believe it’s my fault that the situation has deteriorated, then I should relinquish my position and let a more capable, wiser elf take over."
"But in the current Royal Court, is there anyone wiser or more capable than you?"
The Elf Queen responded without hesitation.
With those words, the previously furious elf elders fell silent.
They could discern who could accomplish the work and who merely paid lip service. Given the current situation, if they drove away the only elf capable of executing tasks, the Royal Court might as well cease to exist. Letting them retreat into isolation would preclude any notion of reclaiming royal authority.
"Is it only because there is no choice that you wish for me to continue as Great Governor? If that is the case, then I still choose to resign from this position."
Parvati looked calm, and the indifference in her tone startled the elf elders, as they finally realized that this half-elf before them, with an impure bloodline, truly did not care for this position or power.
In the past, the Great Governor of the Royal Court held immense power and influence, counted among the grandees of the entire Xilantia Continent and even the Material Plane.
Yet now, the Royal Court governor neither commands much authority nor prestige, even though the high-end combat power of the court has not suffered any fatal blow, but reputation is as such.
"Of course not, Lady Parvati, you are chosen by the Seven Gods, a natural demigod. If you had a complete Silver Moon Elf bloodline, you would be more suited to be Queen than I am!"
The Elf Queen, no longer silent, spoke in praise of Parvati’s capability, acknowledging the nobility of her identity and status.
"I can remain as Great Governor, but from now on, no High Elf, including all elders and even you, Your Majesty, may oppose my proposals. Every order I issue must be fully executed."
Parvati glanced around the room, her previously calm eyes now shining with a silver light, like a Divine Sword unsheathing after a long dormancy, its sharp edge startling and unstoppable,
"If anyone now dares to question anything I say, I will return to the Atlas Kingdom immediately. I can choose to assist my brother, or simply be an ordinary librarian."
"Agreed, as long as your orders are correct, I think no one will oppose."
The Elf Queen once again unequivocally chose to side with Parvati, and her gaze turned to the members of the royal family. Numerous elven royals also expressed their stance, and those elf elders no longer dared to voice any opposition.
They indeed had no choice. If Parvati resigned, they could not find another candidate better than her.
These elves, existing for hundreds or thousands of years, absolutely did not want their rivals to wield greater power than themselves. With mutual checks and balances, the situation was simply a mess. It was better to hand power to this exceptionally capable half-elf.
The reconcentration of power within the Elf Court went unnoticed by almost everyone except Noah because the external changes to the Elf Court were simply too significant, attracting the attention of every faction.
Under the guidance of the elf gods, a continuous influx of wandering tribes disregards the native elves, or Silver Moon Royal Court. Led by numerous Legendary Elves, they signed pacts and formed alliances.
Moonlight Spirit Alliance
This new alliance, composed of elf tribes with legendary combat strength, allows non-legendary wandering tribes to join. However, their voice and status depend on their strength.
Unconvinced, they may choose not to join or to join the Silver Moon Royal Court. However, the vast majority of wandering elf tribes, after weighing their options, have chosen to embrace the alliance, unwilling to join the Royal Court.
This situation is difficult to change, even with Parvati in power, because the past achievements of the Royal Court were indeed lackluster.
However, Parvati is very patient. She is not in a hurry to change the status quo in a short time, but rather focuses on the elf alliance born under the power of the elf gods, beginning to invade territories not under elf court rule.
Neither were these the previously uncontrollable zones due to massive population loss, nor the disputed areas—both have been occupied by wandering elves.
Now, these elves urgently need to expand their living and breeding grounds, so their attention turns to the southern and western parts of the continent because, in these directions, there are no kingdom-level powers, only scattered minor nations.
In the eyes of the newly formed Moonlight Spirit Alliance, these are akin to weakling countries, the only difficulty being to find an excuse to ignite war.
Though labeled as wandering elves and regarded as barbarians by the Royal Court elves, they are somewhat refined in that they seek seemingly just excuses for war.
Such as finding missing elves abducted by slave traders, rescuing oppressed kinsfolk, or seeking justice for elf merchants unfairly treated in foreign lands... and so on.
Craving land for survival, the wandering elves indiscriminately incite warfare, invading and overcoming one civilized nation after another, unstoppable wherever their forces march.
Following the alliance elves’ military advance are groups of treefolk armies, consisting of animated ancient trees. Elves animate and relocate forests, transplanting trees where needed, semi-permanently altering the terrain to create an impregnable forest fortress.
From a high vantage, the green tint representing these wandering elves would seem to be continuously engulfing civilized nations, resembling a green tide steadily expanding toward the western and southern parts of the continent.
Green Tide Calamity
This is the name given by the creatures of the Xilantia Continent for the wars initiated by the wandering elves from beyond the plane. The harm they inflict on local lifeforms rivals the Undead Calamities and Abyss Hell Disasters, though they bring a different life order that, from an observer’s standpoint, seems better.
