The outside suddenly fell silent, no movement, no sound.

Since Suna lacked vision of the outside, she knew little of what was happening and could only ask Yang Yi.

“That giant bird wasn’t some delicious chunk of meat, it was a micro carrion whale!”

Yang Yi explained to Suna.

“Now it’s been defeated by the Farmer. Its core, the Fruit of Bounty, has been ripped out and is being absorbed.”

He snapped a photo of the scene outside and sent it to her.

Countless branches had gathered together, their tips narrowing into needles that pierced the half-metre-wide Fruit of Bounty, sucking greedily.

Though the fruit looked small, its juices seemed endless. Even under the assault of so many branches, it showed no sign of withering.

“Let’s head out and take a look!”

Yang Yi said to Suna, a massive iron greatsword appearing in his hand, its blade coated thickly with sea salt.

He had considered using the Penitent’s Armour to cut off those branches and seize the Fruit of Bounty.

But the problem was that the two carrion whales were in a delicate balance.

The core of a carrion whale was its Fruit of Bounty; until the fruit was fully consumed, the whale wasn't truly dead.

If that balance were broken, Yang Yi would be forced to face the Farmer’s wrath directly.

The Nightmare Star would likely be torn to shreds by the forest.

Worse still, the ship was damaged and in an abnormal state. Until repaired, it couldn’t be upgraded. Even if they seized the Fruit of Bounty, they couldn’t make immediate use of it…

So, their next move depended on what was happening outside!

Yang Yi went to the cabin door, pushing against it. It didn’t budge. Only when he applied greater force, kicking hard, did the door come free.

It wasn’t a broken lock.

Branches had pierced into the door, fusing it with the frame. Only brute force could open it.

After breaking it down, Yang Yi immediately scattered handfuls of salt over the doorframe, then turned his eyes to the deck.

The spores had all settled, and the deck was covered in tiny mushrooms. Few areas still had salt.

Grass had even sprouted, parts of the deck turning into patches of turf, and in places, saplings had forced their way up from the planks.

Fewer than a hundred skeletal arms were busily pulling weeds and clearing the deck, but their efficiency was abysmal.

Rather than stepping recklessly onto the mushrooms or grass, Yang Yi picked up a wooden bucket and scattered salt across the deck, killing the invasive plants and fungi.

With direction, the skeletal arms switched to using salt as well, their efficiency shooting up dramatically.

Once a safe salt-covered path had been created, Yang Yi and Suna finally set foot on the deck, seeing their surroundings with their own eyes.

A forest stretched endlessly, blotting out the sky. Only narrow shafts of sunlight pierced through the canopy, leaving the world dim, visibility just barely sufficient.

Above the deck, about thirteen metres high, hung a Fruit of Bounty, half a metre across, suspended in the air by dense, piercing branches.

“How big was this Fruit of Bounty before?” Suna asked.

Yang Yi didn’t reply immediately. Using his Third Eye, he scanned the surroundings to ensure no vines or branches were closing in, then answered.

“I’m not sure, but its size shouldn’t have changed much.”

He shifted his Third Eye’s gaze onto the Fruit itself, then gave a more precise estimate.

“Right now, its diametre is 48.24cm. At most, I can only be accurate to this degree.”

“Won’t it change?”

Yang Yi stared for another fifteen seconds.

“It changed, now it’s 48.23 cm,” he replied.

“So, the Fruit of Bounty is shrinking.

Considering its volume…” Suna made a rough calculation. “It won’t be fully consumed within a few hours.”

“What are you planning to do?”

Suna looked towards Yang Yi.

He was still commanding the skeletal arms, wiping out the remaining mushrooms and weeds on the deck.

“For now, the forest is in a silent state, it’s best not to provoke it,” Yang Yi replied.

He walked to the mainmast in the central courtyard.

Hanging from it was a chunk of the giant bird’s wing, already withered completely under the salt’s influence.

【Name: Carrion Whale】

【Description: Not actually a whale, but a type of massive creature inhabiting the Sea of Bounty. Their forms vary greatly in shape and size. They are extremely difficult to kill and continue to grow endlessly. At their core lies what can be fed into the Monster Vending Machine, generally known as the Fruit of Bounty, also called Ever-Regenerating Flesh.】

The information matched what Yang Yi had obtained earlier, confirming that the giant bird was indeed a Carrion Whale.

Its forms varied, some took to the skies, others took root as forests.

Yang Yi tallied the deck’s materials and assessed their losses.

The captain’s cabin was intact; the fishing rod and Life Fireplace within were safe.

The lookout tower, however, was destroyed, with the upper mast fallen into the forest below.

Yang Yi guided the Penitent’s Armour to retrieve the fallen Twilight Veil, which, luckily, was undamaged.

So, the greatest loss was sea salt: from the seven tons once piled on deck, fewer than two tons remained.

Fortunately, there was still plenty stored in the hold.

While organising, Yang Yi’s mind was already turning over his next plan.

Meanwhile, Suna approached the stitched abomination.

The creature was completely dead now, its body drained by vines, covered in mushrooms sprouting across its withered flesh.

Suna collected samples of the mushrooms and vines, then used sea salt to kill off the remaining growths, sketching a magic circle on the floor.

The stitched monster was made from corpses to begin with, so long as the body wasn’t utterly decayed, it could still be reused.

She downed a vial of mental elixir, restoring 5 points of mana, bringing her total back to 8.

Her mental stat, with equipment and talents, was already at 10, but could not exceed that limit.

Then she cast Summon Stitched Monster again, consuming 7 mana, and revived the dead creature.

But that time, the monster was very different. Its flesh was shrivelled like a mummy, dangling with a dozen dried, skin-wrapped worm-tentacles, while also controlling several withered vines.

“You drank a potion?”

Yang Yi noticed the movement and came over.

“I checked my sanity, it’s at 74. Drinking one mental potion has no effect,” Suna answered.

Yang Yi said nothing more, only warning her not to overdo it, then shared his plan.

“I intend to enter the forest and locate the Farmer’s exact position.

The sea chart only shows latitude and longitude, but this dense forest must rise several hundred meters high, so I’ll need to search.

Once I find it, I’ll try to secure the Farmer’s core. At the same time, you’ll extract the giant bird’s core. That way, we can solve both problems in one move.”

Yang Yi laid out his plan; a classic case of letting the clashing rivals wear each other down before stepping in as the fisherman who reaps the benefit
