New Novel🪶

Yang Yi had never worn such a fully enclosing suit of armour before, but to his surprise, it was quite easy to put on.

As if it somehow knew that Yang Yi wished to wear it, it had dropped to its knees the moment it landed on the deck, opening its chestplate wide.

Yang Yi stored the helmet into the Charred Worm Ring, then began donning the pieces in order: greaves, leg guards, arm guards, pauldrons, gauntlets…

With each piece he fastened, spikes would pierce into his flesh, producing a faint puncturing sound.

It didn’t hurt. Yang Yi felt no pain, only the sensation of something cold sliding into his body. At the same time, a faint metallic tang of blood began to spread around him, oozing from the beads of blood that seeped out along the armour’s surface.

The armour would adjust itself to fit the wearer’s body, expanding as necessary.

But it would never shrink, because even someone small and frail could use it, manipulating it as flexibly as their own body through the spikes embedded within their flesh.

At last, only the open chestplate remained.

Yang Yi lifted it, slipped it on, and as the plate sealed shut, countless spikes drove deep into his chest and abdomen, leaving his whole body cold as ice.

But the sensation vanished in an instant.

What followed instead was a surge of strength that welled up inside him, along with an entirely new awareness. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

The more pieces he wore, the tighter the bond between the armour and his flesh became, until, in the end, it practically replaced his body, utterly weightless.

Once everything was on except for the helmet, the armour felt like his very skin. He could sense even the slightest movement of air around him, detect a single speck of dust falling onto the armor’s surface.

His senses had become razor sharp, so sharp, in fact, that they bordered on overwhelming.

Then the system chimed in with a message:

【Oath of Penance (Incomplete) Activated: Strength +2, Agility +1, Perception +2. You may now surpass mortal limits. Until your blood reaches zero, or the armour itself is broken, your actions will not be restricted. You cannot remove this armour on your own.】

“So, it even has a hidden effect?” Yang Yi muttered, surprised.

It seemed that once equipment quality reached the “supreme” level, the stat boosts it granted could indeed surpass the mortal threshold of ten.

“You don’t feel uncomfortable?”

Suna, who had been assisting Yang Yi in putting on the armour, finally spoke.

“Not at all. In fact, I feel better than ever!” Yang Yi replied, flexing his body experimentally.

The joints of the armour were incredibly flexible, offering no hindrance to his movements whatsoever.

But Suna frowned, gesturing slightly with her hands.

By all rights, with spikes of ten to twenty centimetres piercing into his body, any attempt at movement should have turned his insides into a mess…

Fully armoured now, Yang Yi leapt off the deck and rushed swiftly towards the coordinates.

This time, the pressure was far lighter.

He could practically ignore the attacks from the forest, needing only to guard his head.

The vines and branches couldn’t penetrate his flesh, the Penitent’s Armour blocked them completely.

Even when entangled, they couldn’t restrain him. He would simply tear them apart with brute force or hack through them with his iron sword.

And if the numbers grew too great, he always had giant salt grenades to fall back on.

The withered branches and vines crumbled at a touch.

Yang Yi moved through the forest by leaping and climbing, like a phantom in a deserted land, completely unhindered.

After chopping down a few obstructing tree trunks, he finally reached the coordinates of the Farmer.

But the ship was nowhere in sight. Before him stretched only dense jungle, shrouded in dimness, as though something massive blocked out the sunlight overhead.

A creeping vine lashed towards him, interrupting his thoughts. Yang Yi shifted position, then looked up.

Five hundred metres above, countless vines intertwined, weaving a massive cocoon-like structure that shut out the sunlight entirely.

The cocoon stretched nearly two hundred metres in length and more than fifty in width, large enough to bury an entire ship.

And if so many vines had gathered to shield it, didn’t that mean something was indeed hidden inside?

The instant he saw it, Yang Yi almost immediately guessed that the Farmer was sealed within that cocoon of vines.

Still, he activated his Three-Eyed Sight to confirm below, ensuring he could still see the ocean beneath, before climbing upwards.

After all, he might only get one chance. If he was wrong, the consequences would be catastrophic.

If every vine attacked at once, Yang Yi could very well be bound into a cocoon himself.

But the forest’s density also worked to his advantage, there were endless footholds, so he had little fear of missing a step.

After ten minutes of climbing, Yang Yi reached the top of the cocoon. No more vines attacked him here.

This was the highest point of the forest, where sunlight fell directly and the vines dared not extend.

The vines beneath Yang Yi’s feet writhed slowly, tightly encasing and protecting whatever lay inside. They weren’t distracted enough to bother attacking him.

But the more they guarded, the clearer it became — something important was definitely hidden within.

Yang Yi drew the Ironbreaker and swung it down hard, tearing away a massive swath of vines and leaving behind a one-metre-deep pit.

Yet within, it was still nothing but writhing, thick vines. More of them slithered towards him like snakes, fast and relentless. If he failed to dodge in time, they could easily cocoon him, making movement nearly impossible.

These vines couldn’t corrode the armour, but if they touched bare skin, there was no guarantee they wouldn’t burrow into the body.

Changing tactics, Yang Yi pulled out a barrel of salt from his stomach pouch.

He still had more than 450 giant sea-salt grenades and nine massive barrels, roughly four tons, of sea salt.

All of it had been prepared for this very moment.

Without hesitation, he upended one barrel, pouring the salt out freely, then immediately grabbed a second and poured again.

The results were excellent.

The moment the vines touched salt, they withered rapidly, becoming brittle like dried seaweed and snapping apart with the slightest pressure.

After emptying three barrels, Yang Yi swung the Ironbreaker sword again, hacking and digging.

Soon a pit opened up, its bottom coated with salt. Any vines that tried to creep closer weakened drastically under its influence.

As he dug deeper, Yang Yi also tossed several giant sea-salt grenades, spreading the coverage wider and further reducing the number of vines pressing in.

At last, after reaching five metres down, the ground beneath him gave way, and he dropped.

He landed on slanted, soft terrain, it seemed to be soil.

Above, the hole he had made was already closing, sealed by vines. Sunlight vanished as they wove together overhead.

But the cocoon’s interior was not dark. It was lit, and the scene around him became clear at a glance.

This had to be the Farmer, the ship he had been searching for. Its size was immense, even larger than the Nightmare Star.

Its lights were still functioning.

They weren’t ordinary lamps, but strange, flower-shaped fixtures mounted on the walls and ceiling.

No, that wasn’t right.

They weren’t fixtures at all. They were flowers. Alive. And hostile.

From their glowing stamens, streams of luminous liquid sprayed towards Yang Yi. He raised his Crystal Greatshield in time, blocking the assault. Acrid smoke hissed up where the liquid struck, its corrosive power eating into the shield’s surface.

The attack was sudden, and the cramped space gave him little room to dodge. He could only protect his head.

Fortunately, the reliability of the Penitent’s Armour was beyond anything he could have hoped for. The corrosive liquid slid off harmlessly, having no effect whatsoever.

Relieved, Yang Yi counterattacked, hurling giant sea-salt grenades. Each throw destroyed a flower instantly, causing it to wither.

The plants might once have been intended as a source of light, but they had become deadly killers.

Nearby, several human corpses lay scattered, already reduced to fertile soil for the flowers’ growth.
