Cracking sounds rang out one after another.

Yang Yi hurled giant sea-salt grenades to wipe out the glowing flowers, and the light around him dimmed at once.

But his vision was unaffected. He already possessed night vision, or rather darksight, and his golden vertical pupils gleamed coldly in the gloom.

Suddenly, one of the vine-wrapped corpses, its flesh pierced through, began to stir.

Yang Yi saw it clearly and immediately tossed a giant sea-salt grenade at it, preventing it from reviving.

Yet around him lay six or seven more corpses, and many of them did “wake”, standing up in grotesque, unnatural poses. Their skin was torn open by parasitic plants within, and none of them had heads.

For these corpses, there was no difference between hands and feet. Some walked upside down, others were supported by vines bursting from ruptures in their torsos.

In essence, they were nothing but plants hiding inside corpses, the bodies serving merely as nutrients.

Suppressing the urge to set them ablaze, Yang Yi swung the greatsword, tearing apart the “plant-men” as they tried to close in, attacking with vines that lashed out from within their hosts.

Then he lobbed sea-salt grenades, finishing off the abominable plants completely.

Only once the area was secure did Yang Yi take stock of his surroundings.

This had to be one of the floors of the Farmer. He had fallen in through a breach in the ceiling above.

Looking up, he found the hole in the roof, beyond which the writhing vines were already sealing shut.

That meant this was the third floor, and he had crashed through the fourth floor’s deck to get here.

“Troublesome,” Yang Yi muttered to himself.

The Breeding Chamber he sought was on the fourth floor, but that entire level was tightly wrapped in vines.

Pinpointing the chamber’s exact location amid that writhing mass was almost impossible.

The most viable plan, then, was to reach the space beneath it, dig a hole upwards, find the Fruit of Bounty, and secure it.

Resolute, Yang Yi pulled up the Farmer’s interface, displaying the ship’s schematics and allowing him to view each floor in detail.

The vessel had four levels, each containing farmlands suited to different crops.

The third floor was Black Soil Farmland.

【Name: Fertile Black Soil Farmland】

【Description: Suitable for growing wheat, potatoes, soybeans, beets, and other staple crops.】

Touching the soil beneath him, Yang Yi confirmed its type.

Yes, he was indeed on the third floor.

The farmland stretched in 10x10 plots, each separated into small rooms, each with windows, outside of which were more vines…

Cross-checking with the schematics, Yang Yi pinpointed his position. He was in a stern-side room on the third floor, close to the hull.

The Breeding Chamber was located toward the rear-center of the fourth floor. So he needed to move across the third floor to the corresponding position. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

He set off at once, but after two steps, he halted.

The soil underfoot was unnaturally loose, like freshly tilled earth that had just been watered.

Once noticed, the anomaly was impossible to ignore. This ship had no other living crew. He was likely its first visitor in a long time.

Yang Yi glanced at the unmoving, withered plant-men corpses, then walked over.

【Name: Delicious Corpse Vine】

【Description: A special plant that grows within animal corpses. Once mature, it inherits some of the host’s traits and can manipulate the body to move, hunting nearby prey. The “Delicious” variant is edible, juicy, sweet, and highly nutritious.】

And then there were the glowing flowers.

【Name: Mutated Delicious Sunflower】

【Description: A special bloom capable of providing illumination. Difficult to cultivate, its glow accelerates the growth of other plants. After mutation, it developed the ability to spit corrosive venom and attack nearby creatures. Edible, nutritious, and delicious.】

All of these were plants infected by “Delicious”!

Yang Yi walked over to a mound of raised soil. There were more than a dozen such mounds scattered across the 10x10 farmland.

He thrust his hand straight into the dirt. Immediately, a gnawing sound rose up from within as something bit down on his fingers, but the sturdy gauntlet took no damage.

Yang Yi seized the strange plant and yanked it free, only for his face to freeze in shock.

It was an upside-down, severed human head. Tender sprouts had already grown from the neck stump, and roots protruded from its eye sockets, nostrils, and mouth.

The teeth within its jaw were still chomping incessantly, biting at Yang Yi’s armored fingers.

“What the hell is this thing!”

He cursed under his breath, then applied a bit of force, crushing the head to pulp. At the same time, information surfaced before his eyes:

【Name: Delicious Headflower】

【Description: A rare and difficult-to-cultivate plant that requires an animal’s head as its seedbed. Once mature, it bears fruit in the form of an almost identical head. Edible, delicious, enhances physical attributes (grants experience), and even bestows fragments of intelligence (some of the original head’s memories). The smarter the brain used to cultivate the flower, the greater the benefits of consumption. Headflowers use the memories of their host heads to lure prey, feeding upon them for nourishment.】

Yang Yi stared at the information in silence for a few seconds.

He immediately realised it was the corpse vines planting these headflowers. Without hesitation, he contacted Shen Guanquan and forwarded the data.

“I found these twisted plants on the Farmer. Just what exactly did you plant on this ship?”

“That’s impossible… I’ve barely managed to cultivate a handful of special plants. The only successes were the Vitality Coconut and that Fire Banana you gave me! And these things…”

Shen Guanquan sounded more shocked than Yang Yi, though there was a hint of recognition in his tone.

“I’ve seen similar plants on that island before. I burned almost all of them with fire. If they’re here, you must be extremely careful of Parasite Vines and Bloodsucker Trees!”

“Parasite Vines end in serrated maws sharp enough to bite through fine steel armour. Even severed, they can still move independently. And once they latch on, the victim’s fate is worse than death, the only cure is immediate amputation!”

“Bloodsucker Tree branches are just as bad, tough, piercing, and they’ll drain a man dry…”

“Enough. I’ve already encountered them,” Yang Yi cut him off, ending the transmission.

At that point, he was almost certain: the Forest Egg was the Corrupt Whale’s core, commanding these plants.

The Corrupt Whale’s flesh, or more precisely, the peel of the Fruit of Bounty, had been reshaped by the Egg into this parasitic forest of vines and blood trees, and it was even directing corpse vines to cultivate headflowers.

That meant it likely possessed considerable intelligence.

Whether this was good or bad, Yang Yi couldn’t say. For the Corrupt Whale, intelligence was a shackle, limiting its raw power.

He had already witnessed this firsthand.

Still, regardless of the implications, the Egg was clearly in a dormant state, wholly focused on absorbing another Fruit of Bounty.

If he wanted to capture it, now was the perfect chance.

Yang Yi burst out of the room. More mutated sunflowers lined the walls and ceiling, but this time he ignored them. Switching to his Third Eye, he dodged only the streams of acid aimed at his head as he sprinted toward the core.
