Chapter 119: Ruan Chanchan : Why would I lie to you?

Ruan Chanchan believed that her thought process was right on track, but Ruan Zeqiu didn’t believe so. He disliked everything about Xie Daiyu. From his long black hair to his tall, dark and beautiful existence. Other mers might like him because Xie Daiyu was their idol. But Ruan Zeqiu didn’t like him at all. Because he knew that Xie Daiyu liked his sister! And the kind of liking he had for his sister was no joke. He had seen how Xie Daiyu looked at his sister almost every time his gaze fell on her.

He would rather work with someone like Shao Xia than work with Xie Daiyu.

"I don’t want to work with him." Ruan Zeqiu announced his opinion. This was the first time he had refused his sister, which surprised Ruan Chanchan quite a lot because she had never seen this mer ever reject her before. She blinked her eyes and questioned, "Are you saying no to me?" She couldn’t believe her ears.

She couldn’t help but question Ruan Zeqiu.

Ruan Zeqiu opened his mouth to tell his sister that Xie Daiyu was not someone whom they could trust, but before he could say anything, Xie Daiyu intervened.

"Your sister is only worried about you, Zeqiu," he spoke sensibly. Usually, Xie Daiyu used this tone to convince the elders, and he couldn’t believe that he was actually using it on a little mer, but who asked Ruan Zeqiu to be the brother of his destined one? He smiled down at Ruan Zeqiu, who was looking at him with a gaze filled with wariness. "You might have already heard the rumours that are spreading in the tribe. Your sister is worried that if you join another team other than mine, you will be bullied by the women leading those teams."

"I can take care of myself—"

"Yes, you can, but what if the women of the team attack you altogether?" Ruan Chanchan asked. She said with a little dissatisfaction, "Do you think you can fight every single one of them? Listen to your sister and join Xie Daiyu’s team. This way I will worry a little less." If Ruan Zeqiu continued to hunt with women who wanted to defile him, Ruan Chanchan was worried that she would end up getting old within a night.

She sighed and rubbed her forehead and thought about whether she should really take the risk and change the tribe. But then she thought about her broken beast nucleus and dropped the thought. She was no longer a fool; if she tried to join another tribe with Ruan Zeqiu, with her ruined beast nucleus, she was worried that they might just accept Ruan Zeqiu, the useful beast warrior, while she would be left behind.

She might as well drop that idea.

The meat distribution soon got over. Just like always, Ruan Chanchan didn’t receive any meat, as she was not doing anything for the tribe actively. Of course, she didn’t care about this meat; she already had a lot of boar meat and innards, including a blue bird waiting for her in the cave. Ruan Zeqiu, on the other hand, was dissatisfied because he believed that his sister had done enough for the tribe by saving the lives of two high-ranking hunting beast warriors, and yet they were not willing to give her enough meat.

He turned to look at Nan Zhi with a gaze filled with hatred.

Nan Zhi also noticed that Ruan Chanchan didn’t receive any meat and touched his nose guiltily. How was he supposed to know that Ruan Chanchan was meant for big things instead of just collecting herbs? If he had known that Ruan Chanchan was such a person, he would have never complained about her to the elders. He sighed and looked at the elders, who seemed to be quite satisfied with the little show of power and dominance, and frowned.

He always believed that the elders were fair, but now he realised that they had long turned corrupt.

Even Xie Daiyu couldn’t help but turn and look at his mother with a blaming look in his eyes. His destined one had saved the lives of their tribe members. Saving a life was more important than hunting down beasts. Why was Ruan Chanchan not given any meat?

When Chief Xie saw the blaming look on her son, she sighed. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to hand any meat to Ruan Chanchan but the elders adamantly refused, saying that it remained to be seen if Ruan Chanchan was possessed by an evil spirit and they couldn’t let her get any further integrated in the tribe for the tribe being.

Ruan Chanchan, who was the centre of the storm that was about to start in the tribe, had no idea that she had caused so much trouble for so many people. She was fine without any meat and returned home without making any fuss.

Ruan Zeqiu followed her. His lips were still pursed in a pout, which made Ruan Chanchan confused. "Why are you pouting? Did something happen on the hunt?"

"Humph, why do you care?" Ruan Zeqiu twisted his head to one side and then said to Ruan Chanchan, "You cooked something good and ate it on your own." he paused and added, "I guess you were not alone since that mer was with you."

He just went to hunt a beast down, and Xie Daiyu came to attack his sister behind him. Now that he thought about it, it was better to follow Xie Daiyu. At least that mer wouldn’t be able to attack his sister while he was away.

"Alright, why are you angry?" Ruan Chanchan understood that the little foodie was upset because she didn’t let him eat the beggars’ chicken. "I can always cook it for you again."

"Really?" When Ruan Zeqiu heard that he could eat the thing that had been tormenting him ever since he returned to the cave, his eyes lit up.

"Why would I lie to you?" Ruan Chanchan shook her head and poked the mer on his forehead.

"Thank you!" Ruan Zeqiu happily followed Ruan Chanchan inside the cave.
