After waking up, the first thing that Ruan Chanchan did was to start working on the animal hides. She had already dealt with the hides of the beast, which were thick and tough. After sitting inside the cave for an entire night, the hides had cooled down and had turned stiff, which was perfect for making bandages now.
"Sister, what are you doing with those hides?" Ruan Zeqiu asked while munching on the leg of the bluebird. After eating the roasted bluebird, he was getting more and more hooked on the taste. Ruan Chanchan then took a look at the Moon Nuts. She had collected them after the system told her that these nuts could be eaten, but she had yet to try them. Feeling a bit hungry (obviously with a warrior-kind brother next to her, she could never get to eat her fill), she threw a few moon nuts into the flames. As soon as she hurled them into the flames, the fire turned a greenish blue. For a second, Ruan Chanchan thought that she might have made a mistake by throwing these nuts in the fire and cooking them in the same manner as the chestnuts in her world.
But soon her worries flew off when she smelt the milky scent of rice cakes starting to waft all over the cave. The scent was so tempting that even Ruan Zeqiu, who usually didn’t pay attention to anything sweet, turned and looked in the direction of the flames.
"Sister, what is it?" He walked over and looked at the nuts that were crackling in the flames and sniffed the tantalising scent. "What is this? I have never seen them before."
"I call them moon nuts." Using a stick, Ruan Chanchan took out the nuts that had been roasted and handed them to Ruan Zeqiu. The shells were already cracked and didn’t need to be peeled. She said to Ruan Zeqiu, "Don’t eat those nuts just yet; they are still hot—"
She hadn’t even finished speaking when the mer popped one nut in his mouth and chewed on it without listening to what Ruan Chanchan had said to him. Two bites later, his eyes lit up, and he said to his sister, "This tastes really good!"
After he finished speaking, he started to eat the nuts even more quickly. Seeing the actions of her brother, Ruan Chanchan simply shook her head. She didn’t say anything and picked up a nut.
