Chapter 122: Nan Wu wants to separate

"Watch out after yourself—" Ruan Chanchan called the mer, but Ruan Zeqiu had already run away. Seeing him leave in a hurry, Ruan Chanchan shook her head and looked down at the nuts in her hands; maybe she would bring these nuts to the Nan family cave and let Nan Wu eat them. These nuts were not really hard, and that girl could chew them without much trouble.

Ruan Chanchan finished a few more nuts and then picked up the hides along with the blood berry that she had harvested earlier.

However, as soon as she walked outside of the cave, many mers and children paused at her sight, and all of them looked terrified, as if Ruan Chanchan was going to grow a pair of horns and poisonous teeth and attack them. Some of them even turned around and ran away.

Ruan Chanchan: "..."

Alright, there was no need for them to act like this. She was still too high up to attack them, if she could do that. Not to mention, if she dared to jump off from this cliff, she would get her bones broken. They were overthinking too much. Even if Ruan Chanchan had the guts of a leopard, she would never do something so foolish and silly as jumping to her death.

Humph, these people really don’t know what’s good for them. They dare treat my darling like this... I promise that one day they will pay for these actions of theirs.

Xiao Xie was even more upset than Ruan Chanchan. After all, he treated Ruan Chanchan as his good friend and partner. How could he not be upset when he saw these beastmers and children treating her like she was carrying something hideous on her back?

"Alright, calm down," Ruan Chanchan said to the system. She spun around on her feet and headed down the cliff. Her feet hurt a little as she was not wearing any shoes. Sighing, Ruan Chanchan looked down at her feet and wondered if she needed to make some shoes from the leaves or something of the sort.

I can—

"No," without even listening to what the system had to say, Ruan Chanchan refused to listen to his offer. She had heard all about the horrifying prices that the system had set for something as simple as a bandage, and she didn’t dare to even think about buying a pair of slippers from the system. She wondered how many points that might be.

Only eight hundred points.

As if sensing what Ruan Chanchan was thinking, the little system happily bobbed up and down, nearly sending her crashing straight to the bottom. Only eight hundred points? Only? Was there a need to add only? So many points, and this system dared to use only with her. He might as well start looking for another rich host because she was certainly not up to the task for him.

Darling? Darling? Why are you running away? Darling?

Ruan Chanchan arrived at the Nan family’s cave. As soon as she entered the hollow space, she sensed that something was amiss and slowed down her pace.

"Wu, how can you say this to us?" Father Nan’s voice was laced with hurt as if he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He blinked his eyes and stared at his daughter. "You want to move out? How can you move out? What about us? Your parents are still alive, and you are not even imprinted. How can you just move out like that?"

Nan Wu’s voice was sombre. "How can I not move out? I am already an adult, and I can live in a separate cave if I want to. Anyway, you have too many children who are growing up, and it is better for me to step out alone."

Nan Wu didn’t say anything, but Father Nan understood why she was angry. Clearly, she had heard him and his mate talking about letting their second youngest take over Nan Wu’s position to make sure that they wouldn’t run out of meat. Back then, they thought that she was unconscious and couldn’t hear a thing, but it seemed like she was hearing it all.

Father Nan became nervous and he tried to quibble, "Wu, it’s not like what you are thinking—we...we just wanted to, you know, save our family. After you, your second sister is the only one who can awaken as a warrior kind; the rest... they failed in doing so." They had so many mer sons and not one awakened as a warrior kind; it was hard not to feel resentful because of this.

So many children and not one of them was useful. If they had awakened as a warrior kind, then would Father Nan become so worried? He would have been fine!

Just like that, he shifted the blame onto his disappointing sons. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

Nan Wu glanced at her father and smiled at him knowingly. She curled her lips and said to her father, "Do you really believe what you are saying? Father, don’t forget that when you said those words, you had already anticipated that I was going to die. You were determined to abandon me. Don’t worry; I won’t do the same to you. Once I get better, I will go on hunts again and share meat with you and Mother."

"And what about your siblings?" Father Nan’s heart skipped a beat as he realised the twist in Nan Wu’s words.

"They are capable and can take care of themselves." Nan Wu was aware of everything that happened when she was unconscious. Only Nan Zhi was the one who took care of her. He ran awry trying to look for a way to get her treated and brought her back to life, while her siblings all turned their backs on her. They went ahead and actually started to share their food with her younger sister in the hope that she would be able to awaken quickly after eating her fill.

Even though that didn’t hurt her, it still made her disappointed.
