Hated By The Alpha-Chapter 143: Final Parting
Audrey was standing in front of Alpha Lake’s bed, staring at his still unconscious face.
Tears started to fall down her cheeks again; it was time for her to leave the pack.
She would have left that morning, but she decided to leave at night; it was still the second day of his unconsciousness, but she hoped he might wake up before the third day; she would have loved to look into those deep grey eyes of his for the last time.
She wondered if they would still stare at her with the love and fondness he used to or if he would now look upon her as a stranger.
She couldn’t bear it, seeing her mate staring at her with empty eyes, she would rather disappear from his side than stay and torture herself.
She slowly walked over to the side of his bed and lowered herself beside him. She took his hand from below the covers and held it between hers, staring at his handsome face, how she was going to miss her man and mate.
She regretted listening to Selena and not letting him mark her; maybe, if she was marked, he might be able to feel his soul’s connection to someone else’s. Maybe the connection might be the reminder he needed to remember that he once knew someone like her.
But now, no mark, no connection. All their years have been flushed down the drain as if it meant nothing to them. But, everything has a price, especially life. If their memory was the price she paid for him to live his life, then she doesn’t mind. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
In a way, she was happy for him, even though it killed her to think about it, but in truth, Alpha Lake did deserve a fresh start. Ever since he knew her, his life has been full of sorrow and regrets; maybe it was time for him to meet someone else and witness a normal relationship with someone. No sad pasts, no weird powers, no delay in reciprocation of feelings, just a normal wolf with a normal life.
Audrey lowered her head to his, placing it on his forehead, "I’ll be leaving soon, Lake." She whispered.
She took a deep breath to stop her tears from falling, tightening her grip on his hand.
"I’ll miss you, I’m already missing you. But I promise you, I’ll always cherish and remember our memories, both good and bad; I’ll never forget you, love. You’ll always be part of me, even when you have forgotten everything about me, your face, your voice, your body, everything about you will always be a part of me, as long as I live, I’ll live with a part of you. And, if there was a new life for us, I would still want to be your mate, even if it’s just for a second," Audrey whispered, her voice shaky.
She wiped her tears on her sleeve and took a deep breath, then slowly raised her face away from his.
"You’re the best thing to happen to me, in my cruel and dark world, you were my only purpose for wanting to survive each day, I know you can’t hear me, but I know your wolf can, even though you both have forgotten about me, I believe my words would serve as a consolation for you both. Take care of him, Regal, never let him fall into danger again; I love you, I love you so much," She kissed his lips gently.
Audrey suddenly gasped when she felt his hand move in her hands; she quickly looked down at his but was disappointed to find it unmoving; she looked up at his face and saw his face as it was, eyes closed and unconscious.
She knew she hadn’t imagined it, the moment she kissed him, his hand had tightened around hers, almost like he was struggling to gain consciousness and hold her back to himself, almost as if he didn’t want her to go.
Audrey sighed and slowly released his hand, covering him properly with the covers. She took out a folded paper from her pocket and slid it under his pillow. A teardrop fell beside his pillow.
She made sure the paper was well hidden before she walked away from the bed and went toward the door.
With every step she took, her heart got heavier, and her soul felt emptier and emptier. This was harder than she thought.
She slowly opened the door and turned to look at his face one last time, carving every feature into her head; then, with a strong determination, she walked out of the door and closed it.
When she left the room, she felt a part of her soul tear away from her, forever to be locked in that room with him.
She walked down the stairs, another wave of tears threatening to release from her eyes, but she didn’t let them; this was a choice she made, and she should be able to face the consequences.
"Are you okay?" Maria stood from the sofa as Audrey walked down the stairs, walking toward her.
Audrey was surprised to see the twins and Alex standing in the living room, waiting for her. No one was there when she went up the room to see Alpha Lake.
She felt her heart warm up at the love and care she saw in her friends’ eyes.
"I’ll be fine, Maria, you know, I’m no kid, I can manage my problems," Audrey managed to sound sarcastic at them.
Maria scoffed but didn’t say anything; she let Audrey get closer to her and she immediately engulfed her into her arms, hugging her tightly.
Mary and Alex went and joined the hug; they all hugged for a long time, each trying to hold back their emotions, not wanting to trigger Audrey by showing how bad they felt about the situation.
"I’ll miss you, so much, Audrey," Alex whispered.
Audrey bit her lips, holding them from trembling and letting the sounds come through.
She slowly released her friends, staring into their eyes one by one.
"I’ll miss you, little co,usin," Mary’s eyes were misty as she stared at Audrey.
"You’ve become like our third twin, Audrey; I always thought we’d live in the same place forever, fighting, playing, gossiping..." Maria giggled softly, but her eyes portrayed her sadness, "But, I guess life always has a different plan from what we want, and we can’t do anything about it. All I’m saying is that none of us are going to be the same with you gone from our presence; everywhere is already looking so gloomy. I just wish things happened differently. I love you, my friend, and my family," Maria hugged her again, sobbing into her shoulder.
They had promised not to cry in front of Audrey, but she just couldn’t hold it in any longer. They’d come a long way, and she’d grown to love her like a twin if not more than.
"Come on now, you’re going to make me cry too, I’ve already done that enough, trust me," Audrey gently patted Marie’s shoulder, chuckling.
"Oh, gosh, I’m so sorry, I couldn’t control it," Maria chuckled softly, wiping her eyes.
"It’s okay, come on, Andrew would have been waiting for long," Audrey’s voice sounded gingerly as she pushed her friends towards the door.
She looked one last time at the house before quietly closing the door.
"Don’t worry, Miranda will take good care of him," Alex promised as they walked down the stairs.
He had seen her looking longingly at the house and knew that she was thinking of how Alpha Lake would do. He needed her to have a rest-assured mind; she was already thinking about a lot of stuff.
"I know," Audrey replied with a smile.
In the general living room, Caleb was the first to see Audrey coming down the stairs; he walked over to her and hugged her, "I’m sorry, and good luck," he whispered, patting her shoulder.
Audrey nodded at him and smiled as he ran over to Maria to hide his face in her shoulder, probably hiding his tears too.
Audrey walked over to Miranda, Ms. Bridget, and Alpah Sebastian, "I’ll miss you, aunt, Mama, Sebastian," She smiled sadly at them.
"Don’t worry about me, I’ll surely visit," Alpha Sebastian waved his hands.
Audrey smiled and nodded. She had told everyone she’d be traveling to Rome, but she had lied. She did so because she didn’t want to tell them her real location; one day, someone might be tempted to bring Alpha Lake to her, and it would jeopardize all the sacrifices she had made so far. It hurt her, but she had to do it.
"Poor child,", Ms. Bridget drew Audrey, into her arms, hugging her so tightly, silent tears falling down her cheeks.
"I can’t believe you’re finally parting with us, the baby I watched grow, is now leaving me, for good" Ms. Bridget sniffed, "No matter where you go, Audrey, you’ll always be my child, and I’ll always love you the same," Ms. Bridget said in a cracked voice.
Miranda was quiet; she had already had a deep talk with Audrey before now; what was left were just their final goodbyes.
Audrey slowly nodded at Ms. Bridget, tears welling up in her eyes but she refused to let them fall.
"I love you, Mama," She kissed Ms. Bridget’s cheeks and gave her a sweet smile.
"It’s for the good," She whispered to the old lady.
Miranda nodded, then held Audrey’s hand. "Come on everyone, it’s a long way to the airport, and she doesn’t have to miss her flight because of our sentiments, it’s time for her to go," Miranda turned to everyone with a serious face.
"We just have to send her off to the car," She announced and led Audrey out of the Packhouse.
They all nodded and followed them behind.
Outside, Maya and Stacy were waiting beside a black car, and Andrew immediately came down from the car and opened the back door for Audrey.
"Your bags are already in, the trunk, Luna," And,rew bowed.
Audrey shook her head. "It’s Audrey from now on, after all, we never marked each other," She informed.
"It doesn’t matter, you’ll always be our Luna," Andrew replied.
Maya nodded and hugged Audrey from behind, "Goodbye, sister. Even though I’ve known you for a short while, I’ll miss you like we grew up together, I love you," She kissed Audrey’s neck and giggled.
"Goodbye, Audrey, I wish you all the best," Stacy said with a smile.
Audrey turned and stared at all her friends and family, she even saw Rein standing with Alpha Sebastian at the back.
She was glad she got to give everyone a happy ending, life wasn’t supposed to be hard on everyone.
She looked up at Alpha Lake’s window and smiled sadly, everyone saw her off apart from the one person she truly wanted.
She looked away and turned to Maria, "Tell Sandra I love her whenever she gains consciousness," She smiled.
Maria nodded.
Audrey waved at everyone. "Goodbye, I’ll miss you all," She smiled as they all waved back at her.
She nodded and then entered the opened door. Andrew closed the door and quickly entered the driver’s seat.
"It’ll be alright," Isabella spoke beside Audrey.
Audrey nodded, closing her eyes to hold back tears.
"I’ll always be beside you, great one," Green assured from the front seat.
Audrey nodded, her eyes still closed as the car started to drive away, away from all her good and bad memories, away from the love of her life. There would never be anyone for her if not him.
She took a deep breath and opened her eyes, staring at the landscapes of the Grey Blood Pack for the very last time.
