Hated By The Alpha-Chapter 207: Mark’s Mate
"I’m sorry," Lake whispered for the hundredth time that evening as they stood in the hall, pack members surrounding them and wishing them a happy life ahead.
Audrey pretended not to have heard him and simply kept her smile on for the guests.
His arm was around her waist, and he could feel just how impatient she was to leave the place and face him squarely.
"Congratulations, brother. You got me there for a second... that was really dumb. Say, what if she said not because of your dumb idea, what were you going to do? Got a plan B?" Mark came over, carrying Mikhail.
Lake sent Mark a death glare. He was still trying to get Audrey to forgive him for the stunt he pulled, and Mark came over to add salt to his wound.
"Moma," Mikhail called, his cheeks blushing.
Audrey stared at him, her eyes narrowed, "Yes, baby, don’t tell me you were in on this with your Dad?" She asked him.
Mikhail glanced at Lake, they both looked like kids who had been caught doing something naughty, "He told me that his plan would make us stay together forever, so, I wanted us to stay together forever, Moma, that’s why I kept his secret. I’m sorry, Moma." He explained innocently.
Audrey’s fake frown dissolved into a sweet smile. She leaned over and kissed Mikhail’s cheek, "I’m not angry, sweetheart. Not at you." She whispered.
"Does that mean we get to stay here? Forever?" Mikhail questioned, looking expectantly hid parents.
Audrey nodded, "Yes, baby, you’re here forever." She told him, kissing his cheek again.
"This is your home, Mikhail. Your pack, your people. You will rule them one day, Mikhail. This is where you belong," Lake said, stepping forward to touch Mikhail’s head.
"I can’t wait to be Alpha, I’ll be as strong as you, Daddy," Mikhail said, his eyes dreamy.
Mark scoffed, "He’s not as strong as me, I just let him become Alpha because I didn’t want the drama and fame and all that." He told Mikhail.
Mikhail chuckled, shaking his head, "No, Uncle Mark. I’ve seen your wolf, it’s awesome, but not as awesome as Dad’s. Yours is... cute, and Dad’s is Alpha." He explained with a smile.
"Damn it," Mark muttered.
"What he said," Lake winked at Mark.
Mark made sure Lake was looking at him and he quietly mouthed ’Fuck you’ to him.
"Aww, look how cute you guys look. I was almost dead down here, but thank God our Alpha is a hopeless romantic. He saved a lot of people from losing their lives tonight," Sandra hopped over, Lawrence behind her.
Audrey chuckled as she stared at her whole crew behind Sandra. Everyone was there, even Melody.
She frowned as she recalled seeing Lake speaking to Melody earlier when she was returning from the forest.
Melody stepped forward, an awkward smile on her face, "Congratulations, Luna." She bowed her head to Audrey.
Audrey glanced around at everyone and saw them wearing the same suspicious look as she did.
"What do you want, Melody?" She asked, removing herself from Lake’s side.
She wanted him to know that she recalled what happened earlier.
"Yeah, Melody, what do you want?" Sandra asked.
"Need me to take hr out?" Green asked, slicing her finger across her throat.
"No, Green. Why did you always want to kill?" Sebastian gently Green back, smiling apologetically.
Audrey chuckled, seeing how uncomfortable Melidy was as everyone made her feel like she wasn’t supposed to be here. In all fairness, she wasn’t supposed to be there, she was an enemy.
But, Audrey knew that people changed, Cara, Grace, and Janet were her villains from the past, but they were all changed for good now and could never think of harming her.
"I’m here to apologise, Luna. For the trouble I caused you and the Alpha. I know no one wants me here, but I just hope you believe that my apology is from my heart. Ava asked me to tell the Alpha something earlier, but I couldn’t because I knew most of them were lies..." She paused and glanced at the Alpha, "Ava told me a lot of lies, and I know that if I followed her instructions, what the Alpha wanted to do tonight wouldn’t have been a prank. I know when to step back, Luna. And, this is me stepping back for you." Melody bowed her head to Audrey once again.
"Aww, now you’re talking." Sandre bumped her hips against Melody’s, draping her arm around her shoulder.
Melody staggered and stared at Sandra in surprise, "Um -"
"Welcome to the crew, please, choose your favourite, Audrey’s out of the options, she’s my best friend. You’ve got Green, Maria, Mary, Alex, Stacey, Maya, Cara, Grace, Janet... Me. Who do you want to he closest to?" Sandre pulled Melody into her arms and turned her around to face everyone.
Melody opened and closed her mouth, too stunned to speak. She didn’t know what to make of the situation, she didn’t even know if Sandra was being for real or not.
"Hurry," Sandra shook Melody’s shoulder.
Melody blinked, her eyes roaming around the people who were all giving her the stink eye.
"I-I-I chose Green," She stammered, pointing at Green.
"You wanna die?" Green asked in a threatening tone.
Melody took a step back, smiling awkwardly.
"Ah, that was a weird choice, but anyways, welcome to the crew," Sandra cleared her throat and turned to Green, "You’ve a new bestie, yay!" She did a little happy dance and pushed Melody toward Green.
"Why Green?" Maya asked, genuinely curious.
Melody shifted away from Green and cleared her throat, "She’s the scariest after Audrey. I figured if I became her closest friend, she wouldn’t want to hurt me anymore." She explained, not looking at Green who was glaring holes behind her.
"I don’t know about that, I’m her boyfriend... she still hurts me. That should tell you something," Sebastian sighed, shaking his head.
Melody gulped, rethinking her choice.
"Guys, I haven’t even said I’ve forgiven her," Audrey reminded them.
Sandre laughed, starting at the back of her neck, "Oh, my bad. But, can we keep her? She looks like someone who would have fun teasing." She asked, smiling widely.
Audrey shook her head at Sandra, "Whatever you say." She said.
Sandra looked to the twin and they shared a secret look, "We’ve got a new target." She whispered to them.
Mary nodded, "I think she’s cute... though..."
"Huh?" Sandra and Maria asked at the same time.
Mary simply shrugged and walked over to Melody, "Hi, I’m Mary. I can be your friend... and more." She winked at Melody and extended her hand to her.
Melody hesitated, feeling overwhelmed.
"Shake her," Green flicked the back of Melody’s ear.
"Ouch! Okay," Melody quickly shook hands with Mary, forcing a smile.
"N-nice to meet you, Mary," Melody stammered.
"Want to come over to my place tonight?" Mary asked.
"No, she doesn’t. Is something wrong with you?" Maria went and pulled her twin sister back to her side.
Mary simply chuckled and shrugged, "She really is fun to tease as Sandra said." She said.
"Moma, uncle Mark is acting funny," Mikhail tapped Audrey’s shoulder.
Audrey turned and stared at Mark, who looked transfixed by something or someone.
"Can we leave now?" Lake asked quietly beside Audrey.
Audrey glared at him and looked away from him, "Mark, are you okay?" She asked him.
Mark blinked, turning his face to Audrey; he smiled, "I think I’ve found the one." He told her, his smile widening.
"Huh? The one?" Audrey glanced around her.
"Your mate?" Sandra moved forward, carrying Mikhail with him, "Go get her, then." She smiled.
"It’s not a her... It’s a he," Mark smirked.
"He?" Audrey furrowed her brows.
She turned her head toward the place Mark was looking, "Oh no," She gasped, holding Lake’s hand as she leaned into him, holding his chin and turning his face to the left.
Lake blinked and focused on the person approaching them, "Damn..." he muttered.
"Yeah, it’s Leon... crazy, right?" Lake muttered.
He held Audrey’s waist as Leon neared, pulling her out of the way.
Leon noticed how they all stared at him, making him feel like there was dirt in his pants.
He held his head high and walked over to Audrey, "Congratulations, dear friend, and boss. You, too, Lake. I might not like you but you make her happy, so... yeah..." he wanted to hug Audrey but someone pulled him in from behind.
"How about I make you happy, mate?" Mark questioned Leon from behind.
"What the fuck?" Leon frowned and pushed out of Mark’s arms, turning to glare at him.
"Are you alright?" Leon asked, pointing up to his head for emphasis.
Mark shrugged, putting his hand in his pocket, "I am." He winked.
Leon frowned, looking at Audrey, "Who’s this guy?" He questioned.
Audrey cleared her throat, "Lake’s elder brother and my cousin... It’s complicated." She explained.
"And he’s also your mate," Alex walked up to Leon and placed a hand on his shoulder, "You’re just like us." He pointed to Andrew and himself.
Leon frowned harder, "Yeah... no, thanks. Audrey, did you hear him?" He asked her, hoping she would say it’s a prank.
"I would really love to stay and chat, but I’ve got something to take care of," Audrey smiled apologetically and held Lake’s hand, dragging him away.
"Right," Leon muttered.
"A word, please," Mark said and held Leon’s arm.
"Nope, I’m not who you think I am. So, just - hey!" Leon was shocked as Mark tugged him along, walking out of the hall with people staring at them with curiosity.
